BikiniBound's Diary

I had a midwife assist my doc and she was wonderful. I couldn't go with just a midwife due to having a complicated pregnancy (especially during delivery). If you have no problems then I definitely agree with that option. And regardless of what some tell you, doing it w/o drugs isn't that bad. You are so overwhelmed with your little bundle of joy that you forget how painful it was. I was in labor for 23 hours too!! It hurts like a muthaf***er but I would never want to be drugged during that, I wanted to be completely lucid throughout so I could enjoy my daughter's first appearance. It was AMAZING.

I know you're gonna enjoy this pregnancy, it's really a beautiful thing. Even though I puked my ass off the entire nine months, I still look back and miss having my little girl kicking inside my belly.

Are you gonna breastfeed?

That is so cool that you did it sans drugs and with a midwife. I don't blame anyone for getting an epidural, but there can be lots of complications from having one, plus like you said, the feelings are dulled so lots of women don't have an urge to push or can't feel what's going on down there..lol. The book I'm reading right now by the world's best midwife talks a lot about how the mother's attitude towards labor and delivery has a huge impact on how much pain she experiences. I think it's true that there is a culture of fear and pain re childbirth that is thrust upon pregnant women, scaring them into worrying about the pain, and expecting it to hurt and be a scary experience. But she has seen case after case where if the mother goes into it with a positive attitude and isn't scared, but relaxed, her pain will be lessened considerably. She's even seen women experience orgasms while delivering. I'm not looking for that..lol. But I do like the idea of this being a happy, positive experience and not one full of anxiety and fear. :)

Yes, I do intend to breastfeed. :)

Well done for keeping up the exercise and keeping the average calories within maintenance while you are so busy (and socialising). I know that you will be drinking plenty water and that will sort out the sodium.

Thanks! Lunch today was an all-you-can-stuff-yourself-with Chinese buffet, and I managed to keep my calories at just over 2,000. :hurray:

Im glad to hear all is going well, LOL...I am wondering abt appts but they are coming up this week arent ? All of the What to Expect books are good ones:) I also took parenting classes but I was 16 when I had Kaylea:)

Yes there is more to life than WLF which is a good thing!

Yup, preg education class tomorrow night, and then I meet with the OB nurse on Thursday. Don't meet with the actual OB until my 11th week. I am in email contact with a nurse-midwife, and may end up going with her if I don't like the OB.

Holy shit I've missed way too much. You're preggo?????? If that's the case, just call me Aunty MIA. You can kick my ass later, sweetheart. I'll have to tell you where I've been and ummm yah... all that bullshit. Love youuuuuuuu.....

My best girl friend read all about Hypno-birthing and planned it out like that...midwife, doula, me, baby daddy, her mom, no drugs, at home. It all worked out, but she wasn't all calm like those women who are in the hypno-zone--she was SCREAMING! But her labor wasn't bad, 11 hours. Best moment of my life when my niece was born. I got to see her before Christina did!

The book is right. If you panic during labor, all your muscles tighten up and it makes it harder for things to move along and makes the contractions more painful. It's best to plan ahead and know exactly what your about to do and how you "plan" to feel about it. I was able to get through most of the 23 hours without too much trouble or unbearable pain. The last 4 or 5 hours were pretty painful but we were all so worried about getting her out alive, I wasn't paying much attention to the contractions. I was focusing on doing EXACTLY what the doc and doula were telling me to. I had to labor the last 3 hours on my hands and knees cuz the cord was wrapped all around Bella multiple times. They had to do an episiotomy and poor Sean didn't get to cut the cord because they were so frantic to get her breathing. It was rough but I ended up with a perfectly healthy baby girl and I wouldn't trade that experience for anything.

I hope this lil story didn't freak you out! Lol!

Just for being MIA, you get to be my labor coach--well, you get to be the one I beat up on when the pain gets bad. You know, kinda like a whipping biotch. :D

So, tell me where you've been and all that bullshit. :D I missed ya.

Steve--The seller pays the commission--even to dual agents. Unless some prior arrangement has been made.

Mal--Lol. It's a class about pregnancy, not how to prevent it...ugh uh. :D

Val--That's cool you got to see that kind of birth. Although it doesn't sound like she was hypnotized if she was screaming..lol.

Amy--You didn't scare me. I've been reading about similar stories in that midwife's book. I have read that massaging the perineum during the last month of pregnancy and also massaging it with oil during labor can make episiotomies unnecessary in all but a few cases. That sucks you had to have one. But it all worked out in the end. :) How big was Bella?

Ugh. Not feeling so hot today. I woke up feeling fine, but as the afternoon came around, I'm feeling like crap. Almost flulike symptoms. A bit of nausea. Maybe it's morning sickness--or afternoon sickness. :puke: The only thing I've felt like eating are sour gummy bears. :biggrinjester:

Bella was only 7lbs 3 oz., I had to have the EP because they had to get her out asap, her heart rate dropped really low while she was in the birth canal and they were afraid we'd lose her.

Thanks for the explanation in my journal, Kimberly! Really appreciate it. :)

Sorry you aren't feeling so hot. I imagine it comes with the territory of being pregnant but what the hell do I know?

Pffft.... woman, I'm a sadist, not a masochist. OoOOh and btw, congrats, beauty!! So.... being as it's going to be Wednesday in a few hours, do I get to see some soapy boobied pictures? hahaa

So, tell me where you've been and all that bullshit. :D I missed ya.

Egads. Where haven't I been? Sheesh. There's just way too much to get into, so we'll cut to the chase and say.. "YAH at least one of us is pregnant!" hahaaa

Yikes! That must've been scary.

Steve--YW. Unless you're in the RE biz or close to someone who is, you wouldn't have a clue about how commissions work. Very few of the first time home buyers I work with have any idea how that all works. :)

Cerella, Margaret and Brandy--I'm feeling better now. prior to 9:30pm, all I ate today was a roast beef sandwich and gummy bears..lol. But I managed to eat quite a bit in the last hour..lol. I'm feeling a lot better now. :) Never did :puke:

Sheryl--Stay the hell away from my boobs! They are very tender atm and feel like they weigh 10lbs each..lol. :pumpkin::pumpkin:

I'd better see an update in your diary. Otherwise you WILL be getting cold-cocked while I'm in the middle of bad-ass contractions.

The preg class went well. The nurse was really nice, although I don't think she told me much that I didn't already know since I've done so much reading on the subject already. I was pleased to hear that they don't normally do more than one ultrasound during the pregnancy (at 20weeks) unless they have good reason to do more. I have read that some studies suggest that too many US's can be bad for the baby. She said they can't induce until you're 41 weeks unless there is a medical reason to. I am happy to go 42 weeks without one, maybe longer. I've seen two inductions, and they were not pleasant affairs. They can also be dangerous to mother and baby.

Got a bunch of pamphlets and a book by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynocologists. I'll be interested to see if the info in it differs from what I've read thus far.

Tomorrow D and I are taking my niece and nephew to the beach for the day. That should be interesting..lol. They are aged 7 and almost 10. They are much fussier eaters than D and I are (we are not fussy at all), so I think they will drive me nuts in that aspect. They are used to eating pretty much nothing but shit at home, and call me the "vegetable aunt." :D Personally, I'd be ashamed if I fed my kids the crap that their parents do, but I keep my mouth shut (at least to them). :D Thankfully, they aren't overweight, although their mother is very much so.

all that baby stuff is getting me so excited! LOL. I can't even imagine how psyched you are! Have fun at the beach!!!

Ugh. D and I are so sunburnt, it isn't funny. We used sunscreen, but apparently not enough, as we're both as red as lobsters, and in misery. :ack2: We've tried all sorts of things including aloe vera, vinegar, baking soda, etc. Nothing seems to help.

We had a lot of fun, though. The weather was gorgeous and Lake Michigan was perfect for swimming. The kids ate absolute rubbish, but whatever. :D

My appt with the nurse was fine. Had to give a blood and urine sample and an extensive family history. The chances of my OB being on call when I go into labor is 1 in 8, so that doesn't make me happy. I may just get a midwife after all. I want to be comfortable with the doc who delivers me, and not with some stranger.

Needless to say, I'm in far too much pain to exercise today. :ack2: My weight was 220.5 yesterday, and 223 today!! I didn't even eat a lot yesterday. Calories were 2,310, plus I walked 3.5 miles and swam a lot yesterday. I think it must be water retention and/or my sunburn causing the gain. :(
