I had a midwife assist my doc and she was wonderful. I couldn't go with just a midwife due to having a complicated pregnancy (especially during delivery). If you have no problems then I definitely agree with that option. And regardless of what some tell you, doing it w/o drugs isn't that bad. You are so overwhelmed with your little bundle of joy that you forget how painful it was. I was in labor for 23 hours too!! It hurts like a muthaf***er but I would never want to be drugged during that, I wanted to be completely lucid throughout so I could enjoy my daughter's first appearance. It was AMAZING.
I know you're gonna enjoy this pregnancy, it's really a beautiful thing. Even though I puked my ass off the entire nine months, I still look back and miss having my little girl kicking inside my belly.
Are you gonna breastfeed?
That is so cool that you did it sans drugs and with a midwife. I don't blame anyone for getting an epidural, but there can be lots of complications from having one, plus like you said, the feelings are dulled so lots of women don't have an urge to push or can't feel what's going on down there..lol. The book I'm reading right now by the world's best midwife talks a lot about how the mother's attitude towards labor and delivery has a huge impact on how much pain she experiences. I think it's true that there is a culture of fear and pain re childbirth that is thrust upon pregnant women, scaring them into worrying about the pain, and expecting it to hurt and be a scary experience. But she has seen case after case where if the mother goes into it with a positive attitude and isn't scared, but relaxed, her pain will be lessened considerably. She's even seen women experience orgasms while delivering.
Yes, I do intend to breastfeed.

The only thing I've felt like eating are sour gummy bears.
well fo rmy sickness it was orange juice and bananas!!!
