BikiniBound's Diary

Hi Kimberly

I can easily understand that your mother may have no interest in computers. As you know my parents are older than your grandmother and I can be certain that they will not be using a computer.

If your mother ever wants to use a computer - you can alter the screen set up so that everything comes out in very big print. A lot of people with very poor eyesight can use computers with things set up in a special way. She need not be limited by the state of her eyes.

You really are putting me to shame with your couch to 5k aspirations. Even if I were not currently limited in my exercise - I dont think that I could attempt that. Good luck with that. Tyly seems to have done really well with it.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Another Couch - 5Ker!!! YAY!

I swear by it! It was the best thing I have ever done for myself!

I am glad to hear about how inspiring you have been to your mother! How wonderful! With you by her side, she is sure to succeed!

Obviously the visit to the doctor had an effect on mom, but I'm sure that's not the first time she's been lectured by a doctor about her weight and health. No, the difference this time is that she has been watching you for several months now [very quietly from behind the scenes] and she's starting to get the idea of how to get weight off. She's also seeing the benefits and the fun that can be had in exercise, with the scenery and all. This is definitely all because of your hard work Kimberley and you have yourself to thank. Has she tried any of your lower calorie meals and snacks to see how she can substitute and still be satisfied? That may a bit premature huh? Well keep us posted, we are loving this!

Congrats on deciding to jog.I thought it would be easy too... but the 8th jog was a push for me. I hope you did well!! You are doing the same thing I am. I usually skip his talking, and I just go to the warm up section and start walking. Have a great day!

Couch to 5k:)Ive been thinkin about that...I gotta get over myself and the fact that people might see me joggin/runnin or riding a bike and that most likely they wont give a shit on how I look - LOL...Im switchin to nights so my thought is once I get organized I can start jogging a bit at the track before I head into work...for midnight...yikes - depends on how safe I feel:)

Have a great day BB...and good for you for giving your mom that little push along the way.

Hi Kimberly,

Wow, you really have lost a lot of weight in the last few months (don't worry, I found it). Last time I was here you had just broken below 240!

Sounds like you are really doing well!

David

Well, I'm not a C25Ker yet! Not unless downloading the podcast to my ipod counts..lmao!! Yesterday I didn't do it b/c it suddenly got cold and rainy, and today I had every intention, but never got off my lazy ass to do it--despite the sunny weather. :blush5: However, I WILL do it tomorrow. :D

Tyly and Brandy--You two have been very inspirational to me to start doing the program. So give yourselves a pat on the back. :D

Cerella--who cares what anyone thinks. If my mom can go to the gym and not be intimidated, you surely shouldn't worry about people seeing you run. I've seen pics of you from awhile back, and you are not so heavy that people will wonder how you can run without keeling over..lol. I waited until now b/c I didn't have health insurance in case I got injured, and at a higher weight, I was certain that I would screw up my knees--running is much harder on your joints than walking.

Margaret--I don't know how anyone can put you to shame!! You've lost over 148lbs, and walk like crazy. And, you were out walking just a couple of days after having surgery. You are an exercise machine whether you run or not. Clearly you are seeing incredible results from walking like a crazy fool. :D

I doubt that mom would be interested in the computer even if we changed the screen font size for her. It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks..lol.

Sam and Claudia--I don't think my mom has learned that much from me..lol. I wish...:D However, when we went out to dinner for my gran's 84th b-day today, she only ate about half of what she normally would--and skipped dessert. Normally she would order a fried cod dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy, dinner roll, cole slaw, a bowl of soup and something incredibly calorie laden for dessert. Today she had a grilled cheese sandwich, homemade ranch chips and a bowl of chicken noodle soup.

David--So good to see you around again! :) I actually haven't lost that much since you were last here...lol. I broke below 240 last summer, and was in the 220s in November when you were last around. Hopefully the running will kickstart my weight loss, b/c it's been very slow going. I've been great at maintaining..lol. But my eating's been bad about as much as it's been good. I need to step it up. I've just been finding it very tough to eat well on the weekends, and then spend the weekdays taking off what I gained over the weekend. Exercise-wise, I've been pretty good. :Angel_anim:

I had a terrible weekend of eating, once again. :ack2: I really need to get some more willpower. I think I'm kind of complacent atm. Time to get my act together!!!!! My weight was 223 today.

I have another closing at 3pm tomorrow. :hurray: It would be so nice if I had one every week like that--even if they are piddly priced houses, one a week would suffice. :D

H and I looked at a house this afternoon. It was rather disappointing. I still haven't seen anything that compares to that one we wrote on a few weeks ago. I still want that one. I think I'm gonna have some people meet me there to give me cost estimates. Maybe I think it'll take more than it really will to get it where I want it. Hahaha....who am I kidding? It'll probably cost more than I'm estimating. I honestly didn't think it would be this hard to find a freaking house in this market. I thought we'd be about to close on one at this point. :(

I was happy that my weight didn't go up any more today--still 223. I am going running tonight after dinner has a chance to settle. :D My calories have been very good so far.

I always have bad weekends. Thats why I don't really like Monday weigh ins..but Its really most of the week thats hard. Thursdays, Friday's, and Sundays are my worst days. Out of only 7 days a week...I"m not doing well. lol. Glad today is going well for you!! Keep it up!And good luck with the house hunting!

Hey Kimberly,

Great to hear you downloaded the podcast for the C25K, that is a good start ;) I never even did download the podcast, I just like my own music so much when I am running :) I'm sure the podcast is great though because I have heard nothing but good things about it, I am just weird I guess...

Your mom is making small changes it sounds like. Good to hear. My little brother is pretty overweight and I would really like him to get healthier as well but, as you know it isn't up to us. We can only control ourselves. My brother is still so young and has so much life ahead of him, I just don't want to see him die young... He wouldn't even really have to do that much. Just walk a few times a week and replace the beer/soda with water, etc. would do wonders for him I am sure.

Sorry about the housing dilemmas. The prices of houses have skyrocketed in SLC. You can't even find anything remotely decent in the valley for under 200k... I'm not ready to buy a house anyways. I don't need a mortgage to worry about while I'm in school. Just after school is finished is what scares me, who the hell knows how much houses will cost then :eek2:

Good luck on your run tonite ;)

Yup, weekends are tough. :)

The closing went pretty well today, so that is a relief--and a paycheck. :D

Calories should be just over 1500 today. :hurray:

What podcast? As you know, I am trying to do the C25K, however, I'm taking it very very slow since I'm so out of shape....I can't wait till you begin so you can inspire me with your progress!!!

Congrats on the closing and doing so wonderfully with you calories. I weigh in on Mondays so I don't eat too much on the weekends, which are VERY tempting to me. Anyway, hope you had a great day! Talk to you soon!

Weekends are always tough for me too, that's why I stick to a cyclic diet. Lower than usual calories during the week and higher calories on the weekends.

Glad to hear your weight stabilized.

Honey, if you are struggling to walk 3 miles, I would hold off on the C25K until that gets easier. Running is so hard on your joints as well--which is why I waited until I dropped 60lbs to do any running--well, I did a bit of it after I was down 40lbs--but in very small doses. I don't mean to discourage you, but I don't want you to end up hating exercise more than you already do. :biggrinjester: Also, without health insurance (something I also lacked until just recently), you can't afford a running injury.

Here's what I would do if I were you--incorportate some interval training into your walks. When the podcast says to start running, just really up your walking pace--walk as fast as you can. Then slow down when it says and catch your breath. Interval training (IT) is great for burning fat. Once you master that 9wk course, start over and replace the fast walking with jogging if you feel up to it. There is no way in hell I would've done C25K when I weighed 250+--I'd have ruined my knees for sure!

The podcast is downloadable from the C25K website. There is one for each week. :)

I can totally understand why you'd want to run to your own fav music. I'm not a huge fan of the podcast music--it's okay. My main reason for doing it was so I knew when to change from walking to running without using my phone or a stopwatch. I have an ipod shuffle--the tiniest one out there--so it's great for walking/running b/c it's light as a feather.

Mom has done really well with her food today. I'm so proud of her. :beating: Hopefully your bro will come around soon. It is hard to see people not on board when you are so fully, I know, but they do have to make that decision for themselves. My H tried for years to help me, but I wasn't ready to help myself.

In a way, you are lucky the market there is so good. I was just reading yesterday that SLC is one of the few areas in the country where the market hasn't tanked. You can always move here--I can getcha a house cheaply as hell. And we could go running together. :biggrinjester:

Hi Kimberly

I am sorry that you found it a challenging weekend regarding food control. I am sure that you anticipated your grandmother's birthday would bring temptation your way. Accept that fact - and know that you will be stronger on other days that do not have that kind of temptation. Well done for keeping your calories in control today.

It is great that your mother managed to control her food for your grandmother's birthday. Changes like that show that she really wants to change. Also that she has done well again today.

Rod says that I do everything like a crazy fool!

You have had another closing today! So is today (monday) not a holiday there - because it is here. It has been really nice having Rod at home with me.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Ah, that explains why you've not been around much today. Busy snuggling with Rod. ;) No holiday here--it's business as usual.

Apparently walking like a crazy fool is rather beneficial. :)

Yup, looks like mom's ready. I've been doing my best to praise her when she does well. We will go to the gym again tomorrow. :smash:

Actually got Rod to come out and walk 3.5 miles in nice countryside with me this afternoon. Even better than snuggling - if I can get him to walk. It could make all the difference.

I'm pleased to see that your mother has another gym visit planned.

Could it be that people have started to listen to us?

I certainly hope they are starting to listen. :D Wow, that's great you got Rod to walk with you again. I'm sure 3.5miles was a really good workout for him--that's a good workout for me. :D
