Big Mac's Lifestyle Change

Hey bmac,

I have enjoyed reading through your diary. You have really done great. Great motivation for me. I am a big guy also, 6'3", 310. I'll bet at 6'6" your looking okay at your current weight. I got down to 260ish a few years back and thought I was 'slim'. Anyway keep up the good work and thanks for the encouragement.

Hey Bert! I wouldn't go so far as to say slim. I'd say I look average right now. Still have a ways to go before I reach my goal though. I'm glad to know I inspire people though. Feels like I just started here a few weeks ago. If you follow similar to what I've done and just make some healthy lifestyle decisions... the weight will fall right off. At least for the first couple months. It's getting harder for me now. When the going gets tough, the tough get going right? Welcome to WLF! I'll be checking in on ya Bert!

I know what you mean about the water. I used to drink a ton of diet soda. I worked long hours and needed the caffiene. Then one day I realized that I was ingesting a can full of straight chemicals and it kind of weirded me out. Plus it is horrible for your teeth, imagine what it does to your insides. I rarely drink soda anymore and if I do, I go for fully loaded Coca Cola. The diet tastes like crap to me now. So I basically only drink water, an occasional ice tea w/no sweetener, and lots of margaritas. I would have to say margaritas are definitely my one guilty pleasures. Patron Silver, on the rocks, with salt. Every time it makes me happy without fail...hahaha

Gonna miss you in Vegas. 1/2 of the girls are going in today. The rest of us will be there tomorrow. We'll think about you, our fearless challenger who was our MVP. Keep up the good fight. We need to figure out a way not to gain weight during the holidays. Maybe we can have a "no weight gain" challenge between now and New Years Eve. LOL Something to keep us on track.

Even diet soda tastes REALLY sweet to me now. Nothing is wrong with a few indulgences, Patron is good stuff.

Ugh, I so wish I could have gone :(. I'm sure you'll all have a blast. I need to not only "not gain", but I need to lose some more as well.

Patron makes a tequila based coffee liqueur that is 80 proof and so good. One part Patron XO Cafe and one part half and half. :drool5:

And i'm sure that half and half would do wonders for my cholesterol!

Does sound pretty damn good though...

Family tradition after thanksgiving dinner, My brother, cousin's hubby and my Brother in law used to go out on the porch for a cigar and a little after dinner treat. Usually they all go for cognac, I always go for the Patron... Guess I'll have to switch it up this year since a cigar could be a slippery slope to cigarettes...

I've never been a smoker, but I do like a good cigar from time to time. That or a pipe. My wife used to smoke, years ago, and now she'll have a cigar occasionally and there is no slipping. It has been 12 years since she quit, though. I think if she had a cigarette it would be different.

I'd have to agree with Trops here. (As usual it seems) A cigar is more like an event, or a once in a great while sort of thing. I know it's still tabacco, and that might scare someone who has quit, but I just think a once a year cigar would not get you craving for more. Take it for what it's worth... just an opinion.

yep, skipping is for me. My take on most things like this as a rule is that I know where my weak points are. I have a pretty firm grasp on where I screw up, and it is easier to avoid the potential, than to flirt with it.

Knowing you limits and temptations is huge for weight loss. I try to avoid the situations where I know temptation would get the best of me. That being said... you do have to treat yourself every so often.

I just have to learn how to incorporate that "treat" into the days alotted calories!!! You know... how to make it work with the new LIFESTYLE. Have a good one.

I even think it's ok to go outside the days alotted calories. Durring this journey of mine I've had plenty of instances where I have seen a big drop in the scale after a day I ate more than I should have. Granted I do undereat from why my calories are supposed to be sometimes. If you're hitting the gym hard though, sometimes your body puts those calories to good use.... as long as they're healthy calories. :D

Oh, and I've lost 1.6lbs this week. Kinda lame from what I used to get but still an acceptable loss. Got the scales headed in the right direction again. Just gotta make sure it's a temptation free weekend! :D

Not lame at all, Shaun. That's what some would call a "good job" or "normal" or "healthy". Just because you used to lose 8 pounds a week, that doesn't mean that it should be used as a basis of a normal week. Hell, some would kill for a 1.6 pound loss. :gnorsi:

Thanks for the reality check Trops :D. It's just somewhat ironic that I work out harder than I ever have and lose less weight. I do know what you're saying though and you're absolutely right. If only you knew the trouble I was dealing with on the scale every week. I ran into a bunch of bad weekends, self inflicted of course, and the fluctuations have been killing me. It seems every friday im in the 260's and every monday I'm well back into the 270's... usually around 276. Here's to making this a good weekend! :cheers2:
