Big Mac's Lifestyle Change

Hi,
I am new here and putting in my 2 cents worth. Most of us know what we need to do to loose weight. The real challenge is to ge able to maintain and keep it off. That said, I encourage you to make lifestyle changes that you can stick with for the long haul. I so understand no time for exercise with the multiple jobs, I have the same problem. However, it is well known that you do not have to exercise to get the weight off, but it is a must for keeping it off!

I suggest the use of protein shakes to up your protein level. There is also some research out there that concludes the use of protein shakes to be an aid in weight loss. I make my own with protein powder, frozen fruit, almond or soy milk and some Omega 3 oil.

There is a great book, I like it, The Ultra Metabolism Diet. It's written by a doctor and helps you determine what it is you are eating that is slowing your metabolism and what changes you need to make to get your metabolism working properly again. I bought the book about a year ago but only recently began to implement. It is all about staying healty and eating healty for life.

Got to find some time for exercise. Exercise is good for both mental and physical health. You are doing great. You have yourself in action, you are loosing, but I do agree with the other guy about how you have to be sure you are not loosing your muscle mass by not getting enough protein.

Cheers to your success.

Nice work with the race! My mom won a thanksgiving race for her age group. Shes done I think 3 races now and was first for her age group in every one. She said she woulda placed 3rd if she was in her 20s.... not bad for an old lady!

:eek2: :eek2: :eek2: :eek2: :eek2:

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMN!!! :eek2: Shit, I did horribly for ME, 7:11 minute miles when I usually can keep it a few seconds under 7 :( Came in 7th of 551 women my age--oh well, still top ten!

Yep, 30-40 to go. I don't know if its "really close" 'cause the last 40 I'm sure will come off slower than the first 90. We'll get there though, just takin it one week at a time. I'll have to check out that thread.

Yes, but remember you calorie requirements are lower, now, AND your body is more efficient at exercise (read: ya burn way less calories for the same shit you did when heavier). So sorry buddy, but it's gonna be more strenuous if you truly want to lose! HUGS!

I'm getting healthy to raise my quality of life... it's not exactly raised if I'm always militant about my food. Sometimes ya just gotta enjoy a cheat day here and there.

That's the great thing about how far we've come though. We don't let those days turn into weeks and months now. When the day is over we get back to our program. With determination like that there's no reason I can't drop another 40 lbs in the next few months.

This is a great way to look at things!! Thanks.

Val- I'm sure if you ran a race out here you'd be first or something... this is the South... the land of fried foods and a multitude of other unhealthy things. Down here running is what ya do when the cops are after ya! :D I hear ya on the calorie cutting and doing more exercise. I did drop 3lbs this week though so I seem to be doing alright.

JZ- No problem man, we've come too far to fall off the wagon now right?

Yo Shaun, been a minute. Glad to hear you're doing well and loving the relationship you're having with food.

Who needs to skimp on turkey day?

Not me, that's for damn sure!

Steve! I hear ya on that brother. Especially with my mother bein the wicked awesome cook she is. It's all about moderation right? Have a regular thanksgiving then get back to the healthy eats. When I used to be too strict on myself in past "crash diets" it always turned out worse. It'd usually end up with me stuffing the most unhealthy things in my face after a few weeks of starving. I'm so much more comfortable now with my new eating habits. After the rollercoaster ride of weight loss/gain that I've had over the past few years, I finally realized that diet isn't a dirty painful word anymore! :D Now it's more about a balanced healthy meals most of the time, a few portion controlled treats in there, and making those healthy alternatives for bad food I used to eat.

Hey Shaun, think I finally got this thing figured out, thanks to some good old fashion smack talkin'!

90 lbs huh? Nice job, bro. hittin' it hard.

Smack talk does help! :D I got a lot of it on the Vegas Challenge and it helped a lot.

Yeah, 90lbs, hard to believe it's been that much. I'm so sore from the gym.

Are you a Tarheel, too? I saw you were wearing a UNC shirt in one of your pics. Class of '05 here. WTG on all the weight you've shed. 90 pounds is the size of a 7th grader!

Nope, just live in NC and am a fan of their athletics! :D

Yeah 90 lbs is a 7th grader, or a malnourished supermodel.... haha. Thanks for stoppin by!

To contribute to the conversation, 90 lbs is an Olsen twin.

Goodnight, I'll be here all week!
