Big Mac's Lifestyle Change

Yeah, I know what you're saying Trops. I just think that even with two jobs, being single and childless carries a lot less responsibilities and allows me to sleep a bit more.

...resting and healing doesn't result in weight loss.... :D
It doesn't result in weight loss BUT worsening the injury leads to MORE time off which leads to LESS weight loss which leads to HOOTERS kickin' your butt! You don't want that Shaun!

If it's your knee (I deal with a bad knee too) I would stick to the bike for a while for cardio... wrist, hmmm... that's a little harder because you use it to lift (obviously). Maybe a support of some kind? Sorry  wish I had better advice... listen to your body. If you need a few days off, in the long run that would be more beneficial than pushing too hard. :)

Great workout, hope the scale recognizes my hard work this week. I checked it out yesterday and i was up a pound to 300.6. I know how that goes and things will work themselves out by Saturday. Only motivates me to work harder and eat better. Goodnight friends. :D

Hey there...just dropping by to encourage you even though you're injured. You're in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM bringing the mighty Spartans down! If anything you've carried us with motivation and points! I need to kick it up some! That's what a team's about right?!?!!??!!! Well, Paula is right...better to take care of it now rather than further injure yourself! We need you...in VEGAS also! Let's :grouphug: it out...hahahaa! GO FIBER!

So I don't comment in here very often- but I saw your earlier comment about the swimming- theres a few websites with reallly amazing total body workouts you can do in the water. I try to swim on Sundays, and those are the days that actually kill me more than the rest of the week :) Sorry about your knee- I have a bad knee, only cuz a few years ago, I was a littttle drunk and slipped in a puddle of water at a friggin hotel and tore a few ligaments. Never been the same... AND I don't drink as much lol :)

Yeah, I've heard water workouts can be amazing Jess! There was a guy who plays for the Dallas Cowboys that lost 40lbs in the pool over the summer. This is the same knee that I had dislocated about 5 years ago.

sorry to hear about your knee Shaun. I have the same problem too with my right knee. I damaged it many years ago playing rugby. I have tried to loose weight a couple of times before and it always plays up. But it hasn't done it yet. Keep up with the regime and swimming is a great idea.

Have you tried water aerobics? If you have it at your gym, you should definitely look into it. You don't feel like it's kicking your ass till you step out of the water and find that you can't walk. It's real good for the times when your joints are to sore to take the pounding.

Hi! I was just browsing through your diary (ok, I skipped a lot, you have had a long road to get where you are today!!!) and I saw that you hurt your knee!!! I couldn't but relate because my brother who is the biggest working out guy I know shattered his ankle. He couldn't really keep up with running, and so he has started bike riding. He said it doesn't hurt when he rides but on days off he swims. Loves it actually and says he feels more fit this way than when he was running. Just don't rush anything and go slowly!

I hope everything works out for you and good luck!!!! You sound like you are a hard worker so I know you can make it through this!

Trops, I hope this isn't taken the wrong way... every time I see a water aerobics class at the gym its old fat ladies. I don't think I've ever seen someone in shape in those classes. Although, not to be closed minded, they may lose weight in the pool first to ease the joints then go in the gym. I know that guy on the Cowboys lost 40lbs in the pool though. I'm gonna look into some water workouts.

Buckeye, thanks for stopping by. I've had problems with this knee before, I feel like when I get to my goal weight they'll be gone. I'm starting to think now that it may be a minor MCL tear. Theres a small bruise on the inside of my knee, and it buckles every now and then when I walk. I'm wearing my knee brace today to support it.

Take it easy bmac!! If you dont slow down now that knee might slow you down forever! Do you have any resistance bands you can use instead of weights for awhile?

you should really think about going to the dr and being extra careful with that knee....I speak from personal experience and pushing yourself too hard too fast is going to give you a totally shot knee

Yup, I bought some the other day. I'm gonna use them to rehab the knee once it starts feeling better. It will give me some resistance points with low impact too. :D Gotta stay in this challenge, can't stop the Spartans ;).

I know Erika, I am being careful. Definately not going to the Dr though. Last time I did that they made me go through the hassle of a MRI for nothing.

Last time I went to the doctor for frequent dizzy spells (my mom though it was an ear infection) the doctor made me have a CAT scan for nothing, and an EEG and found out I had a seizure disorder..... hmm... doctors aren't so dumb afterall....

I'd go to the doc's IMO... entirely up to you though.

I don't think Doctors are dumb or anything. I just think that hospitals are in a business to make money, sometimes they can send you through a lot of testing for thier benifit not yours. I'll feel it out and give it some rest. Its obviously not a serious injury if I can walk around on it. Just need some R&R and I'll be back in business.

That MRI last time ended up costing me 1400 bucks 'cause I had switched jobs and the health insurance was in a transition. I'd just rather not go to the hospital unless I have to.

Oh yeaaa you live in america!! I forgot they don't cover health issues there..... that sucks..... yeaaaaaaa:leaving:

Oh yeah, a Canadian waiting list is so much better, not to mention half your pay gone in taxes. Oh, and your best doctors come to the US :D. :leaving:

Theres flaws with both systems. The 1400 was my own fault for not making sure I was covered during transition. I prefer the American system of health care. As long as you have a job w/ benefits you're good. The 60$ a month I pay through work is a lot better than the Canadian heavy taxes. Then ya go to a hospital and wait for 14-30hrs.

Btw amanda, not trying to start a fight, just discussing health care :D. A lot of Americans think Candian health care is so great without knowing any of the details.
