Beagle's No Lie Zone

Hey Beagle, I've come to lecture you about the soda pop. Try to limit yourself to one a day (or less) because even diet soda is bad for you in large quantities. I don't like drinking plain water either, but herbal tea counts for water, and tastes good. I drink mixed herbal and green teas all day and I'm very well hydrated. Give it a try, unsweetened, of course. If you need the sweetness, try berry teas or something naturally sweet without added sugar or artificial sweeteners. Don't beat yourself up about the water, just try something different!:)

I know that much soda is bad for me :( I'm on my last bottle here to kick start my day (which had a terrible start, but I'll skip that story because it'll just make me mad again), and then I have no excuse!

I have a dentist appointment today, blech. I don't mind most of the checkup, but I can't stand having that cleaning done... scraping on my teeth *shudder*

Oh, and I weighed myself this morning... 178 :D So I'm off to update my ticker!

Idle musing...

Right now I have my ticker set up to get to 160lbs by Oct 2 - which is Josh and mine's 7th anniversary (and also about the same time we'll need to get photos done for wedding invitations sent out with Christmas cards!). So, I have about 12 weeks to lose 20 lbs, which is 1.5-2lbs per week. CAN SHE DO IT???

I have reservations about it, because I plateau so often, and I worry its because I'm not trying hard enough. That its because I don't drink enough water or don't do my situps each night, or workout out often enough or eat the wrong foods... I am by nature a very laid back and unconcerned girl and so having to follow such narrow guidelines about what and when and how much to eat and drink and exercise is a difficult thing for me. I have no excuses, it really is just a matter of putting my nose to the grind stone (which always brings up strange mental imagery). As a wise fictional character once said, “Do or do not... there is no try.”

YOU BET YOU CAN! Just remember to drink your water! Um, a side note about diet soda (any soda for that matter). IT CONTAINS A RATHER LARGE AMOUNT OF SODIUM for the serving size and a can is TWO servings. Sodium = water retention = gain on the scale = mad/ depressed with self = more soda (and begin again). There. Lecture over :D

As for your wedding, We did ours the same way and loved it! The money was spent on the party that we knew would last more than 10 minutes and be better worth the time, effort and dollars spent. I made my wedding dress - a rather informal, 1950's style dress that COULD have been worn again (my sister turned it into my wedding album since I don't have any daughters) :D You are going to look FABULOUS on your day! :D

BTW, Congrats on the 178!!!! You ARE gonna make your goal! :D

yay for 178~! :)

and of course, you'll make it. you just hafta keep at it though. maybe not be totally strict but you must be persistent. if you suddenly see yourself plateau, you'll hafta change what u're doing immediately though. like not much. just change it up a lil cause ur body is just used to what u've been doing. good luck beagle! :D

The seventies are good!!!!! So happy for you. And you can totally meet that goal.

Listen to missprincess and BizeB.....those diet sodas are evil...DRINK TONS OF WATER!!!! Where is JellyBelly when you need her?

editing to see if you might want to take part in a challenge that's starting on Monday. It's for two weeks, folks divided into teams and whichever team loses the most combined weight wins. Here's the link..

Hey everyone, just popping in to say I'm still here! The past couple of days have been super hectic, as today will be! I'll try and get on later today and get details in, but I have been good! Yesterday I had just over 3L of water :D

Thanks for keeping it touch everyone!

Great job on the water Beagle Bailey!! :D Proud of ya! Hope you find time for yourself in all the craziness of the weekend :D

Okay so the last few days - I can't remember much about Thursday or Friday right now (I really should have written it down), but I'm pretty positive I was good for calories, not so good for water, and pretty meh for exercise (did a slow hour biking on thursday, and then situps friday)

Yesterday was just omg. First Josh and I went to go look at the reception site first thing in the morning, and then spent basically the whole day in his front yard with his mom and brother installing a new brick sidewalk! How many calories does 6 hours of back-breaking, knee-cracking manual labour burn?

Food for yesterday was
- bacon and eggs: 350
- large salad with chopped up summer sausage and cheese, and fat free dressing: 700
- 2 x peanut butter and honey sandwiches: 800
Total: 1850 :( I was really hungry after all that work...

Water was somewhere between 2 and 3 L... I lost track over the day. I also had a big glass of crystal lite ice tea (2 cal per cup) somewhere in there too.

I am in no shape to go to the gym today, I am so darn sore all over... so I have to be extra super good with my food then. I know as thanks for help, Josh's mom is making us a big greek salad to eat at work today since she makes it the best ever - and it looks like greek salads are on average 100 calories per cup so I should be okay. I doubt I can eat 10 cups of salad, no matter how tasty it is ;)

One other tidbit before I finish getting ready for work - Josh and I agreed that if I can get to 170 by the end of the month, he's taking me out to a really fancy japanese restraunt as a reward. I've been wanting to try japanese food for a while but all the places in the food court are kind of cheap because they drench everything in sugar-filled sauces, but apperently you can get some delicious and healthy stuff when its done right (there was mention of grilled eel!). 3 weeks, 8 lbs - about 2.5 lbs a week, I better be extra super good until then! Kicking it into high-gear for the next couple of weeks! From today on, no carbs again (since that diet always seems to work well when I STICK TO IT), and lots of exercise! Plus if I can get to 170 I'll be at my lowest post-high school weight again!

Pre-emptive calorie counting for the day:
- bacon and eggs: 350
- chicken and salad: 400
- about 3 cups greek salad: 300
total: 1050 cals

Also I plan on going to the gym anyways today since I'm starting to feel a little better. Nothing too strenuous, probably a 45 mins walk on the treadmill. But I don't want to not exercise, I've got too much at stake ;)

I'm already up to about 1.5L of water today as well, and still over 6 hours left in my shift. I may have to actually cool it a little bit, I wouldn't want to have drank over 8L of water by the end of the day, since there is such a thing as TOO much water :p

oooh! yummy!! Japanese food. It's delicious. Sushi is very healthy for you and filling too with the rice. If you're not into raw food, try the chicken teriyaki or steak teriyaki. The seaweed salad is very good too. Eel is great too. Any of the cooked sushi stuff u might like too... like egg, tofu, cucumber, avocado, californian. :)
Good luck with reaching 170~!! *cheers Beagle on* WOOT!

Hey Beagle. I eat a lot of Japanese food, and it is very good for you (mostly). Beware of tempura, tepanyaki, and, alas, most teriyaki bowls. They're not nearly as light as sushi (which is just the Japanese word for vinegared rice, you can get sushi that has cooked things or veggies in it.) Maki is rolled sushi, sashimi is a piece of fish (almost always raw, sometimes seared) on a ball of rice. Seaweed salad is a nutritional treasure, and very light. I love it, but you, of course, have to like seaweed to appreciate it. Miso soup is salty, but delicious and also very light. Edamame is a great bet too, it's boiled or steamed soybeans (some restaurants chill them after cooking them, some don't) - that's another nutritional star. Have a blast, I know you can do it! I'm rooting for you! :D

Yeah, I knew teriyaki was pretty bad for me, which is too bad because its the one japanese thing I knew I liked :(

Okay, so some math! I need to lose 8lbs in 21 days. There is 3500 calories in one pound of fat, right? So that's a 28,000 calorie deficit I need to run over 21 days, or about 1350 calorie deficit per day (rounded up so that if I'm a little short I still have wiggle room). According to , assuming no exercise, I need to take in 2034 calories per day to maintain my weight. So, I either need to eat only 684 calories per day, or I can eat up to 1184 per day, and then exercise away 500 calories.

I like that second option much better I must say :p On the eliptical, assuming the calculations are correct, I can burn 9 or 10 calories per minute without straining myself too much. It's definitely my favourite machine for that, since even running full tilt I can't get that kind of burn rate. So 500 calories is 50-60 minutes, which I do fairly often without thinking about it. I just gotta do it every day.

I should also keep in mind that on low-carb diets I tend to lose weight a lot faster than I would normally would... I'll see how the first week will go as above, and adjust myself as necessary.

For anyone worrying about my metabolism or well-being, take heart that I will be taking multivitamins, and that this is only short-term - I want to see how good I can do if I absolutely push myself! Then I can go back to a normal 1 lbish per week loss :)

Beagle, you are doing so awesome. And I love it when people break out the math. All of life's problems could be solved by simple mathematics I think!!

And it's so great that your boyfriend is so supportive. He's definitely a keeper!!!

I knew I shouldn't have bought teryaki sauce at the start of my diet. You've set a tough goal for yourself Beagle, but you've certainly shown so far that you can do it.

Yesterday's Totals:
Food:
- bacon and eggs: 350
- caesar salad: 300
- 2.5 cups greek salad: 250
Total: 900

Drinks:
- 3L water
- 700mL diet pepsi

Exercise:
- 45 mins eliptical (420 calories)
- situps - 30 upper, 40 sides, 20 lower

Net Calories: 480

Wow I keep finding my journal all the way back on page three... I remember when it would take a week before that happened; its really picked up around here! I should go and post in somebody's journal that's never posted in mine :) I usually just go around to the journals of everyone who's stopped by, but I think I can get a little proactive!

Anywho, official weigh-in today! Well, I had weighed in at Josh's house, but all scales are calibrated slightly differently, and his had said I was 180! So I double checked this morning and got a nice comfortable 178. Whew! Unless I lost 2lbs in a day, which I wouldn't mind either ;)

Going back to the dentist this morning before class, I have to get a filling replaced from when I was like 12 or something. Apperently its falling out a little, which is why only sometimes hot/cold/sweet/sour stuff bothers that tooth (which I've been noticing a while). Afterwards, I'm stopping by a local supplement store (Popeye's for anyone familiar with it) and picking up some meal replacement shakes that also have Hoodia in them! 2 shakes a day is about 300 calories, and will also make it so much easier to make it on such a reduced-calorie diet.

Off to catch the bus! I'll come back to make diary rounds before starting work, I promise :)

The Seventies are Here!!! The Seventies are Here to Stay!!!

Okay I made that little song up for you, did ya like it, huh? huh?

Congratulations!!!!!
