Back on the horse.

I'm really happy with how yesterday unfolded. I finally got some decent exercise in, and it felt great. I'm looking forward to the spring thaw so that I can start runiing again.

January 15:

Consumed: 2196 calories
Budget 2487 calories

40 minutes on the bike trainer (estimated 547calories burned)
20 minute Yoga Video (estimated 70 calories burned)

I wore a heart monitor for the bike trainer, anyone have any idea how accurate the calorie count would be? I used map my ride to track my calorie expenditure.

January 16:

Consumed: 1926 calories
Budget 2487 calories

No Exercise Logged.

Tonight I am heading out to the Keith Urban Concert with my wife, this should be a lot of fun. I am going to try and get home a little early to sneak in some exercise prior to the concert (that way I can have a beer at the concert)

January 17:

Consumed: 2317 calories
Budget: 2487 calories

Exercise:

40 minutes on the trainer

We went to the Keith Urban Concert, I am counting this day as a huge win. I was able to manage my consumption while still going out for a good time!

Now for the bad news:

January 18:

Consumed: Best Guess about 3700 calories :banghead:
Budget: 2487 calories

We had our annual Work Winter Gala last night, and what can I say, I drank too much, and ate too much. I kind of knew this was coming and made a fairly conscious decision to let it go off the rails last night. I woke up this morning with the resolve that yesterday is over and I need to start fresh. I'm not going to let one bad day get me, and to be honest when I review my week, I am still going to be close to 1000calories under my weekly budget so I am still hoping to sees the scale move a little bit when I weigh in tomorrow morning.

Week 2 is behind me. As I posted yesterday Things got away from me on Saturday but I got picked up where I left off on Sunday and still did ok for the week.

Jan 19:

Consumed: 2253 calories
Budget 2487 Calories

I was 2124 calories under my total weekly budget for calories (including exercise calories burnt).

I weighed in this morning and weighed in at 294 lbs, that is a 3lb loss.

My new calorie budget this week is 2467 calories, I am not going to make any changes to my eating this week as I am still eating well below my budget.

Jan 20:

Consumed: 2073 calories
Budget: 2467 calories

Exercise: 40 minute Yoga

I am starting to feel better, more energy and more alert in the mornings. I don't know if the yoga burns much for calories but I feel more relaxed after doing it and definately have a better nights sleep.
We have friends coming over this weekend, I am going to try and load up on some healthy snacks (fruit / veggie tray) popcorn, instead of the usual chips and nuts.

Jan 21:

Consumed: 1965 calories
Budget: 2467 calories.

Exercise: None

I think it is time to start making some target dates.

I would like to be 275 by the March 17 (~2.5lbs/week)
I would like to be 250 by June 9 (~2lbs/week after March 17)

210 would mean I am no longer overweight, I don't know if I can get down there but I am sure going to try!

The last time I made it down to 241, but I had a really hard time staying down there, I basically touched 241 and then rebounded right away. I'm not sure how I am going to keep from messing up, I think I will need to continue counting and weighing myself each week to stay on track.

Hey Gasman - Are you doing this by yourself or do you have a "diet buddy"? My wife is doing this with me (she has much less to lose than I do) and I think it really helps me keep on point. I'm not so sure how I would have done if I had to do it by myself. I probably wouldn't have done well is my guess. We have made a bit of a game out of it. It does bother her that I don't weigh myself though... my little way of keeping her guessing and I guess myself too!

Anyway, I wish you the best results and keep at it. You know what it takes and how to get there. As for me, I can't let my wife beat me (or I'd never hear the end of it), so I'm here for a while. :coolgleamA:

Having "target dates" as you call them is a hell of a good motivator. If you reach your goal by your target date, you feel like you accomplished something huge and get a genuine sense of pride for what you have done. If you fail to reach your goal by your target date, you feel more motivated than ever to stay on track and kick off the weight.

I'm doing this mostly on my own. My wife is the one that is benefitting, as I was typically the bad influence (picking up baking during a grocery trip, or "convincing" her that we should go out for dinner etc.) I am pretty strict about counting my calories, and passing on dessert and drinking a ton of water. I think she is mostly benefitting indirectly. If I don't have it, she doesn't eat it.

I hate to lose (Or love to lose however you want to look at it) So I am pretty motivated to hit these dates. It is also in my nature to set myself up... In the back of my head I want to reach my goals sooner than the dates I have written down!

Thursday Jan 23 2014

Breakfast: 250 calories
Lunch: 500 calories
Dinner:600 calories
Snacks: 600 Calories

Total: 1960 Calories

Budget: 2467 calories

I snuck in a weigh before dinner yesterday... I think this week might be a good weight loss week, depending on how I behave on the weekend!

Thanks for the tip.

It's so hard to resist that burger and yam fries when eating out, but I will do my best to limit lunches to eating out 1 every 2 weeks.

Good idea. And then it will be a treat / reward, even if you don't order burger and yam fries

So far so good. I haven't eaten out for lunch yet this year. Had to refuse multiple offers but I have brought my lunch to work every day!

We have been out for dinner a couple of times, one time I ate very responsibly, the other I made a decision to just let go for the evening.

Friday Jan 24 2014

Breakfast: 350 calories
Lunch: 570 calories
Dinner:610 calories
Snacks: 530 Calories

Total: 1965 Calories

Budget: 2467 calories

yesterday went well, I'm not sure how today is going to play out. We got up this morning and I made pancakes for the family. Lunch was ok, but we have old friends from college coming over. I have had beef ribs in the smoker for the past 4 hours, and it lining up to be a high calorie dinner (Beef Ribs, Quinoa Salad, Green Beans), with probably a couple of brews and some later night snacking!!.

I'll try to keep it below 3000 calories! I should still be good for at least 2 lbs this week regardless.

As I predicted I went a little overboard yesterday. I'm estimating between 3100 calories and 3600 Calories.

I'm still confident that I am going to see a decent loss this week. Friends are still here, but probably not as much snacking today.

Sunday January 26:

Breakfast: 192 Calories - I made Baked oatmeal, I am going to put this in rotation, it was delicious.

Lunch: 967 calories

Dinner: 1076 calories (Ordered in Pizza)

Snacks: 486 calories

I had two downfalls yesterday. Our guests brought the most wonderfully delicious banana bread, which I had 3 pieces, and we got lazy and ordered the thickest greasiest pizza, but it was delicious.

I still had a good week, losing 3 lbs. I had weighed on Thursday and was down a bit more, so I am hoping that I can rebound again this week, for a big loss.

So far, 3 weeks in, down 15lbs!

Guess I forgot to post yesterday.

Good start to this week. I forgot the tortilla for my wrap today so I'm a little hungry, but I've just been drinking extra water!

Thanks Chi,

It's been a good run so far. When I think back to before Christmas I was out of control. Eating out 4-5 times per week for lunch, usually burger and fries and at least one beer if not 2. Ridiculous portions at dinner, followed by a high calorie dessert of somesort and then a non stop eat parade from dinner on to bed time.

I tried to do some simple math on my weight gain over the 6 months. July 13 to January 14 I gained 31 lbs. thats about 6 lbs/ month, about 700 extra calories per day. assuming my maintenance is around 3200 calories/day I was eating close to 3900 calories on average !!!

The sad part is, I've reigned that into ~2000 calories/day and I don't feel hungary because I'm choosing my calories more wisely, and I have way more energy. I will really have to work to not slip back into old habits.

I'm heading to BC to go ice fishing this weekend with my father in law, probably a safer environement food wise than a super bowl party!

Wednesday Jan 29th

Total: 1985 calories

Budget: 2448 calories
