Back on the horse.

Ok, I've been absent a couple of days but I had an overall good week last week. However Fishing wasn't quite as safe as I thought it would be. I won't go into detail on calories consumed and budget mostly because I'm not 100% sure on total calories over the weekend. I'll start with the negatives:

What I did that didn't help me with weight loss:

Drank too many Beer (about 9 over 3 days) not enough to get drunk, but too much if I'm trying to lose weight
Snacked Constantly: Beef Jerky, Smoked Salmon, Peperoni Snacke, Mixed nuts.... Ohhhhh I ate so many mixed nuts I actually felt sick when I went to bed. ( On the plus side no chips or chocolate really)
I didn't drink much water - I went from over 100 oz per day to a couple of cups, if that

Minor Wins:

I tried to keep some kind of track of what I was eating, if only to help influence my decisions.
Spent a lot of time outside, mostly sitting but I figure 7-10hours per day sitting in a tent when the air temperature is -20C has got to be burning at least a few calories. I found a website that said I would burn 110calories/hr, not sure if I believe that or not.
We did a little walking with gear
Yesterday we went to Denny's with my wifes Grandparents and eventhough the huge burgers with a side of yam fires, or the deep fried jalepenos were calling my name I went for the grilled chicken and avacado sandwhich with a side of veggies and ranch.

I weighed in this morning:

289 lbs, down another 2lbs this week. I've been having some rough weekends, otherwise I feel like I would be down quite a bit more already. I'm still happy, and well on my way to 250.

Yesterday I pan fried up a couple of the fish that I caught on the weekend. Kokanee Salmon, essentially land locked Sockey Salmon. I coated the fish in flour and fried them up in a little butter served with rice, steamed broccoli and raw carrots and peas.

A little higher calories than my usual dinners, but it was super tasty and I had enough room in my budget.

I ate about 2200 calories yesterday My budget is still around 2400 calories.

Kokanee? Never worked with it or ate it myself. If it's similar to sockeye, does its flesh have the same amazingly deep red color? I remember the first time I worked with sockeye, I almost couldn't believe the difference in color between its dark red flesh and the pale pink flesh of the salmon you often see in grocery stores. Amazing.

They are genetically related to Sockeye. They are deep red inside, the ones we caught range from 1lb to 3lbs. We will be heading to the west coast next fall to do some Chinook Salmon fishing, those will be much larger at about 30lb to 60lb. I don't think I can eat grocery store fish anymore. Nothing beats fresh wild fish!

Had a weird day yesterday. I tracked my calories and at the end of the day I had only eaten 1500 calories. So I had some extra snacks before bed to get my calories to 1837. If only I always had this problem, I wouldnt be as big as I am!!.

On that note, I notice my jeans are getting looser. I've been wearing size 40's since a little bit before Christmas. I think it's time to drop down to my 38's. I also am able to fit into some of my old dress shirts again. I'm really hoping I can keepup a nice steady weight loss.

It's -26C today, I haven't even given exercise a thought in a long time. I can't wait till spring...

I worked from home yesterday, and I forgot to post my progress. So now I have two days to update on .

Basically the last two days I ate essentially the same calories - 2024 on Wednesday, and 2020 on Thursday (according to my loseit App!) I figure I give the app about a 10% margin on my daily intake so somewhere between 1800 and 2200 actual calories. I'm really happy with my progress so far. I have taken the odd day off, but I generally manage to keep it to a single day, and get right back on the horse. I have been steadily losing since I started my newest journey, and I am going to focus on keeping this up until I am back to a healty weight, and then I will shift my goals to maintenance.

I have been slacking on posting my progress on the weekends, but I have been doing a pretty good job of staying on point.

Friday: 1810 calories
Saturday: 2040 calories
Sunday: 3177 calories (All day ice fishing trip, indulged in the party food, but I think I kept it pretty reasonable, it could have been worse)

For the Week (Monday to Sunday) I was 1863 calories under my budget.

And it showed on the scale, I got that big move I was hoping for, down 4lbs.

At this rate I will be ready to hit the pavement on my road bike come spring!!

NICE!!! Good job, man!!!

NICE!!! Good job, man!!!

Thanks Chef!

Yesterday was good. I was completely motivated by my big loss, so I didn't have any trouble staying on track. With the weight loss this week my budget has been reduced to: 2408 calories, but I still only ate 1875, so plenty of room below my budget.

Another day down, another day between the rails, so to speak.

I realize that my diary is probably the most boring diary currently active, I read through the other diarys and you guys are generally pretty entertaining to read, especially you, Chef.

But my diary appears to be working. When I make it a point to put in my actual calories I feel it holds me somewhat accountable. History proves, when I post on here, I am consious of what I eat and tend to lose weight. Once I stop posting I start that never ending march back up the scale...

I am going to set a couple of rewards for my self.

1. When I reach 275 - I am going to buy a fancy scale. The one I am using now is just a plain old analog type scale (the kind where the needle spins around the dial). I'm sure it's accurate, but I have trouble reading it some times (I'm 6'5" and that scale is a long way down and the numbers are quite small) I am considering a digital scale, possibly something that measures BF.

2. When I reach 250 - I am going to splurge on a GO PRO camera to document my road bike trips.

3. When I get down less than 225 and maintain it for 1 month, I am going to plan something big, I just don't know what.

Last time I made it to 241 lasted all of about 3 weeks and went directly back to my old habits. Drinking too much, eating crappy lunches, desserts etc. I need to come up with a way to enjoy the occasional lapse, but still maintain a decent weight.

As I drop through these large numbers on the scale. I never want to see them again!!!.

Yesterday I ate 1955 calories. I also stepped on the scale before bed to peek at where I was at. The scale read 280, which would be another significant drop this week. I will wait until Monday AM for my official weigh in but if I have had another 4+ lb week, I will probably look at adding an additional 200 calories to my daily intake to make sure I'm not losing too fast.

Time to play catch up. It was a long weekend this weekend so I didn't keep up with my posts, but I still counted calories and tried to maintain a level weekend.

Friday - Feb 14

Consumed: 1984
Budget 2408

Pretty regular Friday, We didn't do anything special for Valentines day - except kick off season 2 of House of Cards.

Saturday - Feb 15

Consumed: 2005
Budget 2408

We took a family trip to Drumheller, to the Royal Tyrell Dinosaur Museum. The kids had a blast, we ate at the cafeteria for lunch (plain hamburger, and itallian wedding soup, with a bunch of veggies we brought from home) and then we went out for Vietnamese for dinner - I had 1.5 salad rolls and a large bowl of Satay Beef Pho (Soup) So good, I tried to leave some noodles in the bowl but I ate 90% of it!

Sunday Feb 16

Consumed: roughly 3000 - 3200 calories.
Budget: 2408

I took my daughter fishing in the morning, we had a blast, catching a ton of rainbow trout. In the evening we went to a birthday party where I ate a considerable amount of homemade mexican food, beer, chips, and cupcakes!

Monday Feb 17

Back on track on Monday...

Consumed: 2130 calories
Budget 2395

Monday was weigh in day, despite weighing in under 280 earlier in the week my Monday weigh in landed at 283. So a little higher than I was hoping, but I didn't earn anything better than 283. My weekend got away from me, but I'm still happy with a 2lb loss. I am hoping that a big part of the rebound from Thursday to Monday was retaining water due to not drinking enough over the weekend and then eating a ton of salt and sugar Sunday night.

Hopefully next week I will be able to slide under the 280 point!

Tuesday Feb 18

Consumed: 2158
Budget: 2395

So a pretty average day eating, but I did also play hockey so I definitely ran a good deficiency yesterday. I'm not sure exactly how to log activities like hockey where you play hard then sit for a while. We were short guys, so we only had 3 defence. That meant lots of double shifting. In the hour long game I probably logged 35-45 minutes of ice time. When I use Lose it to calculate the calories burnt during hockey it is somewhere between 475 calories (30min) and 950 (1hr). The game was 3 20minute run time periods with a 15minute warmup skate.

I really want to see a number under 280 next Monday! I am going to work from home, possibly try to get a short run in this afternoon, to test out my legs.

I didn't make it running yesterday, I ended up working until 9pm and then went directly to bed.

Wednesday Feb 19

Consumed: 1977

I didn't quite make it under 279. My scale stopped right on 280 and no matter how much I willed it to drop below 280 it wouldn't budge.

I didn't have the healthiest Weekend but I did faily well, all things considered. - I blame the olympics :)

Friday Feb 21:
Consumed: 2835 (Watched USA/Canada game at Lunch - Drank 3 pints of Beer, and had a Taco Salad and about 4 wings - on the bright side I didn't eat the taco bowl.)
Budget: 2395
Exercise: Ran 4.6km = -574calories

My run didn't feel great, I have some work to do to get my wind and legs back. My fastest 5km is in the 23 minute range, It took me over 30 minutes to run the 4.6km on Friday, although my Iphone dies half way so my times may be a little messed up, along with my running tempo. This is just an excuse as the most this messed me up is by a minute or two.

Saturday Feb 22
Consumed: 2403
Budget: 2395
Exercise: Ice Hockey = -472 calories

I think I am underestimating calories during hockey, the game was 60 minutes and I played about half of it. I only counted the approximate time I was on the ice. I got home from hockey around midnight and I was up again on Sunday morning at 4:30am to head to the pub to watch team Canada win the Gold, this is where I went a little off the rails.

Sunday Feb 23:
Consumed: 2485
Budget: 2395
Exercise: None - too tired

Biggest problem was waking up at 4:30 am and downing 2 eggs, 2 pieces of toast, 2 pieces of bacon, sausage and hashbrowns, washed down with about 17 cups of coffee (two of which had baileys). I'm sure I miss counted a couple of hudred calories, so I was probably over by more than I think, but it was worth it, the atmosphere in the pub was amazing and it was good to spend that time with friends.

So my MO has been to eat really good Monday-Thursday and let things slide during the weekend. That has translated to an average of 2.8lbs/week if I disregard my initial weeks loss of 9lb which could very well be related to the difference in weigh in time or simply just water weight. I am going to stay the course for now, and make sure that I get at least 3 days of exercise in per week which shouldn't be hard.

Wow, that's pretty good for having 3 "cheat days" a week. Just imagine how much better you'd be doing if you ate healthy on Friday too. Or Sunday.

I just wanted to stop by and see your thread. You're doing really well. It sucks losing weight, and getting it back, but you're sticking to it. This place is really good for keeping on track :).

Are you Canadian? I didn't have a chance to watch the game, but I heard about it, so I was pretty happy about that win xD.

Keep it up!
