ashanta's fat girl journal

Today was my first Run/training. I read the book curvie recommended: The Complete Book of Running for Women by Claire Kowalchik. On page 47 they have a 10-week training guide for working up to running 30 minutes straight.

Seems like a feat for me but I'm sure I'll be back here saying I ran a marathon- that's my goal!

And I cut my hair off. Weightloss-Fitness-Chopping Hair off. So cliche.
Would you recommend this book? I've always wanted to run but I've never been able to do it for over 5 minutes at a time, I'm obviously doing it wrong. Do you think reading this book would help me get there for real? I would totally buy it!

Are you kidding me? I couldn't run a mile to save my life!

I just started reading the book (chapter 7) and should have it finished by next week, it's a fast & enjoyable read. The author takes a very practical approach to running and really writes for the beginner.

Today was my 3rd day running. On page 47 there is a training schedule which does intervals of run/walk. The first week is a 2 min run followed by a 4 min walk for 30 minutes total. So far, so good. It progresses from there and the entire training schedule is 10 weeks. The last week is the 30 minute run

Yes, I would recommend the book. Within 2 days my butt stopped jiggling and I can see tone in my legs. I always read that running is key to weight management, blah, blah, blah. Now I'm a believer and if I could do it, certainly ANYONE can.

There's also a runner's club on here (where I got the name of the book):

Well I'm going to get it then, I'd love to be a runner.:)

Last week I had a really bad work day. It was milk day #1 for me. Normally I
would have gone on an eating spree for what I now have learned is emotional
eating because I wasn't really hungry.

Guess what? We were going to the fashion week at Bryant Park last night so I
decided to try my size 4 jeans on to see what would happen AND THEY FIT!!
Now that was a nice surprise and a reward for not cheating. Beats the
guilty, bloated feeling I would have had I cheated.

The pants are a stretch size for Levi boot legs from KMart.. so they may very well be a size 6 in reality. But it still works for me!!

I have to say that society treats fat people and skinny people HORRENDOUSLY different. On our way out, this guy handed me a postcard. When I got around the corner I read it and it was an invitation for the models of the show to an after- party. It took me a second and then my brain exploded: HE ACTUALLY THOUGHT I WAS A MODEL??!?!? A model like the ones in the magaines? Actually the ones at the show ARE the same ones in magazines!!!!!! This same time last year this guy wouldn't have held the door for me or even stepped out of the way as I exited the place or even taken a 2nd GLANCE at me. By the way that postcard is staying with me forever!

If there are any guys reading this forum can I ask you for a favor? If you are someone who holds doors for women (many aren't nowadays) can you hold it no matter what the woman looks like? Thank you.

Hey girl, I just noticed your diary and that we're from the same place! Not often you meet someone from around here on the forum. Where do you go running? Any chance you work out at NYSC? I would love a work-out partner. Have a good one on this sunny pleasant day :)!

I'm not a gym person, I have a personal trainer that comes to my home. I had a membership with NYSC for 3 years and used it for about 6 months and that was all! Hope you have better luck ;)

I run in on west side ave or sometimes 'hike' in central park. There are a ton of clubs that meet in central park and run or bike.

Back again to finish the job.. this time for sure!

I have about 20 more pounds to go to my ideal weight, and I'm ready to go at it again!

Watch me in a month :patriot:

Oh and I'm training with a personal trainer now so I'm holding off on the running schedule and doing other cardio to build up endurance first.

Well, things didn't workout as planned. Blame the holidays!!

So I'm back once again starting tomorrow to get to my goal of 125 to 130 :)

Using the same program that worked the first time- starting from phase 1. And I'm very excited!

One more time!

I'm back after vacation in which I gained weight! I don't feel too bad about it since it should be off quickly with my diet and cardio. Giving myself 3 months to do this.

I'm also doing colonix for 2 months this time.

Here's a website that might help newbies that are turning to raw food:

It's forum based and very active. I'm not 100% raw but feel best when I am.

Program Update: Today I began my strict detox program. It should last to the end of August and hopefully I'll finally be at my goal of 18% body fat.

Diet (this diet is done with professional doctors):
Alternating 2 days veggie/2days milk
Dairy :: 20oz milk or replace 10oz milk with 10oz yogurt
Veggie :: 2 fruits (about 2c) + 1.5lbs veggies (raw) Water :: 1 Gallon

Exercise:
11-week run/walk program
