Amy's weight loss diary

I wonder if it's just up north that council elections are taking place too. Hmm.

I want coffee. But I'm not sure whether my coffee machine and grinder are dry enough yet after the flood. And I don't want to break them, I don't really want to have to pay 60-odd quid to replace them (got them both on sale, they weren't that expensive). Sigh.

One of my (Australian) friends on Facebook wrote the following on the AV referendum. I promise this is the last I'll talk about politics here (at least for this issue):

I don't understand why the polls are predicting a no vote. It just seems like a no-brainer to me.

But I do like the way that commonwealth citizens resident in the UK can vote. That's just random, cool and might get a few more yes votes from dazzled Australians who don't even understand why this is a question.

It's the referendum in the UK today. On whether to keep "first past the post" (voting by crossing next to the candidate you want, no preferences, the person with the most votes wins) or AV (alternative vote- a bit like at home with the numbering, but optional preferential rather than compulsory preferential). To me AV is a complete no-brainer.

I had to do something about this damn finger in the meantime while trying to work out where to get suitable tape (so far I've only found it online in bulk). So I've improvised (I washed my other hand after I did this, so the adhesive wouldn't irritate my skin).

It's some toilet paper folded up 4-5 times, wrapped around my finger, with masking tape on top so it doesn't come apart. Part of it's healing, the other part (right on my knuckle) doesn't seem to be changing much and is itching like hell.

ooo i hope your finger feels better soon. and i'm sorry about the flood. you do amazingly well under stress.

Thanks :)

Tonight I'm not doing so well. I've been really hungry for hours, so I had dinner early (about 5:30pm) and it feels like I haven't eaten yet. So annoying, and potentially very bad for the diet. At the moment I'm just trying to distract myself. I also need to go shopping again. I get through vegetables incredibly quickly (especially since Tesco have stopped selling the kilo bag of carrots :( )

I ended up having some Greek yoghurt and some milk (and some chocolate, and I think I'm in a weakened state because for the first time I went back and had more! But I'm still within budget)

I must have an early night. I'm knackered.

Hey, if you're within budget then all is good :D You don't have to go to bed hungry if there's more left in your food allowance.

Hope you catch up on your rest!

Woke up this morning with a nosebleed. That hasn't happened in awhile, and I'm a little worried about it. I suspect that an allergen has re-entered my life and I'm going to have to deal with it (I suspect I know which one, too, most of my allergies that cause that sort of reaction are pretty bloody obvious- so I don't think it's horses, for example)

I don't think I've lost any weight this week (weigh in tomorrow). I put myself on the scale this morning for the heck of it and it's still saying 70. In fact as I'm getting on it the needle was originally going higher than lower (I'm not sure how to describe it, or even if it means anything, but I suspect it means I'm closer to 71 again). I expect it's to be expected given last week's blowout, and I'm not eating little enough to lose 1kg a week so I knew it couldn't last forever, but I really want to break down into the 60-something kilograms- it'll be the home stretch.

I also have what feels like DOMS in my abs, which is weird, because I didn't go to the gym yesterday (this started yesterday afternoon/ last night) and when I went the day before it was upper body work. I feel like I've just finished doing a long set of crunches, it's really weird. Although it has made me notice that my stomach is a lot firmer than it was, in addition to just being smaller. My thighs are definitely firmer too, but more on the quads than the hamstrings (and it's definitely the hamstring region that's a problem!).

A nosebleed? That doesn't sound too good.
I wonder what allergens it could be.
Hopefully nothing serious.

Sounds like you're witnessing massive physical changes.
Well done.

I'm pretty sure I know what it is, but I don't particularly want to get into it. Will require some work to minimise the allergen but it's not the end of the world.

Have just run my coffee grinder for the first time since the flood. Seemed to run absolutely fine, which is a relief, because I can't afford to replace it. Have got the grounds in the machine now making myself coffee. I have had problems with coffee before gym before- and I really have to go today- but I'm really tired (slept very well last night, feeling very groggy now) and it's the only thing that'll pick me up in this sort of state (apart from, oh, say, the Pepsi that I'm keeping here so my boyfriend doesn't binge on it. But I'm not supposed to binge on it either!).

It's funny, I haven't been noticing much in the way of physical changes (change in shape), more in how hard or soft my body is. My thighs don't wobble whenever the wind blows anymore (I'm exaggerating... a little), and my stomach is no longer the same size as my breasts (my breasts are getting smaller, but my stomach is getting smaller much quicker). I know my stomach has felt hard when I've put on weight before, so I'm not quite sure what to make of it all, but I'm liking the changes I'm feeling for the most part, as I know they're in the right direction. My abs are also starting to become more obvious too (I can't see them at all, but I can feel them most of the time now, rather than just in some awkward positions. It's only a two-pack, which is a little bit pathetic to get excited about, but I'll take what I can get).

Will go to the gym today and do my lower body workout (probably not all of it as some of it was painful last time and I overdid it in general) and then either cardio or swim (swimming's more fun- see if I can get to 40 laps today).

The coffee didn't help as much as I thought it would, so I cracked out the Vegemite, which sometimes helps me. Feeling a lot better now (although I'll definitely be over the sodium allowance for today!)

Had a good session at the gym, especially given I forgot to have lunch beforehand! (had my Vegemite, which I'd only intended as a snack, then had a banana at my boyfriend's place before we went to the gym) Did the lower body workout today, cutting the second exercises for quads (lunges- they hurt anyway) and hamstring (leg curl on stability ball), and bringing up the things where I used weights to 3x12 with 3kg (except calf raises, which I raised to 3x18, although that was stupid of me, that hurt a lot during- burn hurt rather than injury hurt though, I think), as opposed to 3x8 with 2kg last time. Surprisingly, I hurt a lot less than I did last time- I can walk normally and I'm not particularly sore anywhere. I also swam about 45 laps of the (17m) pool (got up to 38 then my boyfriend finally arrived from in the gym, and I forgot to keep counting. He reckons he did about 7-8, and I did the same after he arrived). Had intended to do 40 so that's good. For some reason my eyes are really suffering from the pool today, really stingy and dry (I should probably invest in some goggles, but meh, I'm trying to just get by without being a wimp). Am finding swimming becoming much easier quite quickly- I'm not feeling incredibly puffed after a lap or two anymore. And my boyfriend says that it's not normal for people in this country to put their head underwater when they swim- and that people who see me do it probably assume I'm either a really good swimmer or competitive! :smilielol5:

My boyfriend also commented that my skin's improving (I have some problems with blemishes), and I really think it's the pool that's doing it for me. I'm really enjoying the swimming, I don't know if I'll go back to normal cardio- why would I when I have a pool?

Really need to go shopping (completely out of vegetables), and while the supermarket 5 min walk from me is open 24 hours, their supplies are usually pretty crappy at this time of night, so I'm better off going in the morning.

My boyfriend also measured me (and has written it down to compare to my measurements that he took down in late March) and I'm definitely losing size, not just numbers. He's got the numbers so I can't remember exactly what they were, but off the top of my head I've lost (inch=2.54cm, sorry) 3cm off my bust, 3cm off my waist (I thought that's where I was losing a lot, to be honest), 8cm off my hips (!!!), and 3cm off the largest part of one of my thighs (so I presume about 6cm off my thighs total? We only measured one- my left thigh- both times)

Given it's no longer Friday- food diary time.
