Amy's weight loss diary

More pizza. My turn. I'm so making this again. (In fact, I'm half tempted to go and make it right now, because- I have no idea how- somehow I've had less than 1100 calories so far today)

Weight Watchers pita bread, 25g tomato puree (tomato paste in Australia, don't know about elsewhere), 30g Cathedral city reduced fat cheese, 47g brown onion, 2 slices Tesco light choices wafer thin ham, 22g sundried tomato (got rid of some of the oil with a paper towel), 17g black olives, 2.5g fresh basil, 24g mushroom (actually, some of that went into my mouth before cooking because it didn't all fit on the pizza), and 2 cloves of garlic. 346 calories. I've died and gone to heaven.

Amy, your pizza is surely delicious ;)
It's really different from italian pizza but i'm sure that it's as good as ours :drool5:
UHMMMM now i want to eat pizza :D
(I want weight watchers stuff :()

In Australia (where I'm originally from) that would be considered an Italian inspired pizza! But I'm aware we take things from other countries and mess with them so they look nothing like the original.

I don't know what's available there (and unfortunately I don't speak a word of Italian so I don't know how to find out), but to be honest the pita bread is a smallish concern. There's about 50 calories difference between a WW wholewheat pita bread and a normal one sold by the store I got it from, and I'm sure there's a way of finding a lower calorie substitute. The big things, I think, would be the reduced fat cheese (regular cheese is a lot more calorific!) and the lean ham.

thankfully we HAVE reduced fat cheese :hurray: but it's a little bit difficult to find it :cuss:
Here in Italy diets are not so "sponsored", we have almost no dietetic food...only yogurts and cheese :cuss:

PS this is our pizza

Yes, I remember now. I went to Italy about 10 years ago and that's the kinds of pizzas we were given. I suppose Australian ideas on pizzas are a combination of the influence of American culture (putting different things on) and Italian flavours (I think at least that much is true- I grew up in an area with a lot of Italian immigrants).

I'm amazed you don't have a bigger demand for diet food over there. I don't use very much of it myself, except dairy, but I thought such things were near universal now.

There are ways of making lower calorie substitutes, though. I don't think this is too bad for you (I don't know what they mean by a "serve" in this instance though): (a serve is about 145 calories)

Oh, and my boyfriend has sent me my exact measurements.

On the 26th of March, I was:
Bust: 94cm (37 inches)
Waist: 81cm (nearly 32 inches)
Hips: 95cm (nearly 37.5 inches)
Thigh (widest part, only one measured, but they're pretty similar): 64cm (25.2 inches)

On the 6th of May:
Bust: 91cm (nearly 36 inches) loss of 3cm, or nearly 1.2 inches
Waist: 76cm (nearly 30 inches) loss of 5cm, or nearly 2 inches
Hips: 87 (about 34.25 inches) loss of 8cm, or about 3.15 inches
Thigh (widest part, same thigh as before): 61cm (just over 24 inches) loss of 3cm, or nearly 1.2 inches- presumably this means a loss of 6cm on my thighs overall?

Thank you so much for the recipe :)
When i have a little bit of free time, i'll try it :coolgleamA:

I've got the chicken in the marinade (557g chicken, 53ml balsamic vinegar, 30g olive oil, 16ml lemon juice- I adapted it) and I'll be making this for dinner tomorrow.

I love the way Italians make pizza. I can sort of do it myself. You gotta put lots of oregano for a start. And make your tomato stuff delicious - not just paste/puree. Not much cheese. Often no cheese.

Also one trick i learnt from my favourite italian pizza maker in Sydney was to make a garlic flavoured olive oil thing. Just crush the garlic and leave it in a small jar of olive oil for an hour or so for the flavours to permeate out. Just before you put your pizza in the oven, spoon over some of this olive oil. You shouldn't need too much. My favourite one was his seafood pizza. My god so fantastic. I intend making that again and eating pizza along the way of my diet. I will just either keep the cheese off altogether or not put much on but like you I will put on heaps of vegies.

Your pizza looks delicious. Deliccccious.

Check out those measurements.
Incredible.
All in just over one month???

The pizza is definitely something worth trying. I can list the exact ingredients if you like so you know how I got my number. I definitely want to give seafood pizza a go, thanks for the idea, Andrea. I'll see how affordable some frozen prawns are here or something, as regular seafood can be horrendously expensive.

I looked at those numbers and wasn't sure what to make of them. I'm stunned I've only lost 5cm on my waist- that seems to me to be where I've lost most of my weight. Although part of it has to have been the lower stomach, because I'm equally stunned to have lost that much on my hips (I didn't think I had much to lose there- my pelvis is pretty wide). And looking at those numbers, I think I must have a decent propotion to my torso (I wish I could see it myself!), if not my thighs (my boyfriend says my body is cut after the classical mould, he's a lot less brutal about such things than I am. My expression would be "big butt, thunder thighs"!)

On Carrie's inspiration, I thought I'd show the making of a cup of tea. (I promise I'm not brand wh*ring here, it's just... well, this is the brand I use).

I don't know what's available in different countries, but I love this an alternative to teabags, teapots, or individual infusers (the former tends to be inferior tea, the latter two just make a mess). This is sold on the premise that it allows the tea more room to move around while it's infusing, and I think there's something to be said for that. The tea comes out of a valve through the bottom, so I rarely get any leaves in my tea (and if I do it's because I haven't cleaned the infuser properly- most of the time it's not hard to clean, every so often it needs a little bit of TLC).

The containers are metal with double lids and keep the tea (and coffee) fresh. None of these things are particularly expensive- 10 quid for the infuser, 2 quid for one of those containers, when I bought them. (And of course, obligatory shot of me weighing my milk)

And yes, I have a dotty toaster.

So its called an infuser is it? I haven't seen that sort of gadget before. I bet we don't have them available here yet. Does it keep the tea warm enough while brewing? Does the tea fall through the bottom some how.

At the moment, i make my tea in father's soup mug. It definitely fits in the messy category, especially since i can't find the tea strainer.

I only brew for 3-5 minutes, it's a plastic container, so it doesn't really do anything to keep it warm, but it's not like I leave it to go cold. Sometimes the tea does fall through the bottom, but that usually means I'm due to give it a really good clean rather than just rinse the tea leaves off and give it a quick go through with dishwater. The filter comes out so it's easier to empty/ clean (that's the other way tea leaves might get through, if you don't put it back properly). Apparently it's dishwasher safe but it can ruin the mesh if you do... so I don't (well, that and I don't have a dishwasher- but my boyfriend does, and I told him not to).

I used to use those little ball tea infusers (something like this: ) but I find they break very quickly (leaving a cup full of leaves) and don't give a lot of room for the leaves to move around (which makes a bigger difference to flavour than you might think).

The one big downside is that it's made of plastic- it absorbs the flavour of the tea, which if you change types of tea, might alter the flavour of more delicate teas. I only drink black tea, but I do drink different kinds. About once a month I leave it to soak in water and baking soda to try to diminish the flavouring of the plastic, and if I had different sorts of tea (green, white, blue) I'd probably have an infuser for each different type.

My SD card has just stopped working and I don't know why or what to do about it :( My computer acts as if it isn't there and my camera just says "format error". :( I suspect I need a new one. I only got this in November 2009! (it came as a freebie with the camera though- maybe it isn't a very good brand?)

Edit to add: I've just spoken to friends on Facebook, and the verdict is it's broken. Not terribly happy, although Google brings this up:

Too good to be true? RRP 19 quid, selling it for less than a fiver? Over a thousand reviews though, spanning three years, and most of them positive.

I posted that I was going to make this- it's being made now (well, it's sitting there waiting for the rice, I suck at timing)

What I did (I basically went freeform with this as inspiration):

Took 557g chicken breast (the original pack was 607, but used 50g yesterday for my boyfriend's pizza), chopped up into smallish squares, added balsamic vinegar (53ml), olive oil (30ml- well, 30g, apparently my scale doesn't do oil in ml), lemon juice (16ml), marinated overnight. Today, took chicken (shook off as much marinade as possible- so I'm only counting half in the calorie calculation), put in sautee pan, added 220g onion, cooked for a bit, quartered and added 125g lemon, then chopped up and added 367g zucchini (courgette), cooked for a bit, then added 197g capsicum (pepper). Making this to serve 4, 321 calories per serve.

This is more my old school pre-calorie counting cooking- chuck stuff in pot (meat, sauce, veg) and see how it comes out. (I'm a much better cook now so hopefully there'll be fewer disasters)

Edit to add: I've been looking to make a lemon chicken for awhile now, which is why I tried this recipe. I'm very pleased with how it went, it was exactly what I was looking for.

Oh, and I've just noticed. I was just going through some photos to send to my mum, who I haven't seen in over a year (as she lives literally on the other side of the world- we talk on the phone once a week though, as I get free weekend calls to Australia). I was looking at the photos taken on the excursion last week, and some photos taken at a wedding I went to in February. I have a neck!

Makes me a little bit sad in a way, because I was all dolled up, which is something I so rarely do, and I looked like a heiffer, but an improvement's an improvement.

Edit to add: pictures.
