Always Pushing Up The Hill, Searching For The Thrill Of It

"We are always running for the thrill of it, thrill of it, always pushing up the hill, searching for the thrill of it."

Yes, this is my fourth diary here on the weight loss forum. I joined in September of 2009 when I decided that I needed to lose weight and get in shape. With the help of this diary, calorie counting, and exercising like crazy, I dropped 20 pounds in 4 months. I wanted to continue losing weight, but once I got out of my routine, it was too hard to get back and be so strict with myself.

I've managed to keep almost 15 pounds off since I started my journey. Yes, I have gained some weight back and ideally I'd like to lose it, but I honestly don't have the drive anymore. I am happy with my size and I'm okay with maintaining the weight I'm at right now. I've also accomplished some great things along the way (such as running in several 5K's and completing my first ever half marathon) which is something I never thought I would or COULD do. The weight loss part of my journey is over. I am now moving on to the fitness goals. So this is my new diary of fitness.

I have a few goals in mind so far:

Goal #1 - Be able to run @ 7.5 mph on the treadmill for a mile.
Goal #2 - Complete the program.
Goal #3 - Complete the runner's world 5K training program (again).

I would like to finish the 5K training program and the push ups program before I go on spring break at the end of March. I am going to start working on this as soon as I get home from vacation (I leave on Sunday) and second semester at school begins. I plan to exercise at least 5 days a week and attend step group fitness classes at the gym on a regular basis.

Here we go! :cheers2:

I love the idea of starting a new diary - the thought crossed my mind too.
I also love the new goals. I'm very interested in that push-up program - I can't imagine doing 100 push-ups but I also never imagined finishing a half marathon until recently!
I can't believe your trip came up so quick!! Mine is going to come that fast too! i'm so excited for you! I'm also excited for you to kick some butt when you get back! I'll be looking forward to your return - when can I expect you?

The good thing about the 100 push ups program is that it isn't designed to get you to do 100 push ups in a row. The push ups are broken down into "sets" with resting periods in between each set, thank god! I know this will be a big challenge to take on but it's worth a shot! I will be home January 15th, but I will be getting back into the full swing of things on the 17th (this is when second semester begins as well). Can't wait!!!

Today's workout:
30 minutes treadmill - intervals (2 min walk @ 4.0 mph / 1 min run @ 7.0 mph) = 2.6 miles total
Obliques - 30 side bends (each side)
Abs - 120 crunches, 60 bicycles

I have a really sore throat and a cough now which sucks because I leave for Hawaii in 3 days! But I'm just trying to take medicine, take my vitamins, get exercise, and rest so hopefully I will be better by then!

That's all for now :waving:

Rest up Sarah!! You do not want to be sick on your trip! I can't believe you are going to be gone for so long! How exciting! Your going to get a great tan! Even just mentioning tans gets me so excited for our cruise!
Great workout yesterday - I really don't think I would be able to run even a mintue at 7mph - I should try some intervals next time and see what it does with my heart rate. I felt good just to get back to running yesterday even though it was only at 5.8 mph.
Have an awesome awesome time and take lots of pictures! I'll be ready to kick your butt when you return! Take care and safe travels!

Sarah! I'm so sick right now too! It sucks. I speak like a man, and every time I want to talk I have flem. Rest up and drink tons of water!!

I'm jealous of your trip to Hawaii! I went years ago with my bf and it was so much fun. Really relaxing, and so beautiful! Take tons of pics and flash that hot body you worked for so much. Have fun and can't wait to hear about it when you get back! xoxo

I am feeling much better today! I was going to go out last night and party with friends but I decided to calm down and wait to party til I get to the islands :p I have checked out the weather and it looks like there will be quite a bit of rain while I am down there but on Tuesday it says 78 degrees and SUNNY so I will be hitting up the beach that day for SURE! And I will take lots of pics :) Can't wait to come home and start getting back to the workouts!

Sooo many people are sick right now! Luckily the sore throat part is over, now I just have a stuffy nose and flem. YUCK, I hate flem. Especially when I can't cough it out of my throat and I like gag and choke on it LMAO (a little TMI??? oh whatever!) Hope you are feeling better and I will have lots of pictures to bring back :D

On my period this week, eating not the greatest, drinking too much... yeah... BLAH! I was 145 on the scale yesterday which scared me a little because I can see myself creeping back up to the 150's and I want to stay down in the 140's! I took a bikini picture today (below), I think I'll start progress pictures again.

So I decided I really need to cut back on all the crappy foods and get more protein and fiber in the diet. I had egg whites, half an english muffin w/PB and some coffee for breakfast. For lunch I had a granny smith apple, some almonds, and string cheese. I had a cup of popcorn for snack and for dinner I had chicken with cheesy broccoli with a slice of bread and butter. It felt good to eat foods that actually kept me FULL and weren't loaded with calories.

I'm not going back to calorie counting but I am going to start writing down what I eat again when I get home and start on my goals. If I want to get in shape and get stronger, I am going to need to have a healthier diet!

Today's workout:
+ 30 minutes treadmill - intervals (1 min walk @ 4.0 mph / 2 min run @ 6.8 mph) --- my shins were hurting the ENTIRE time so here we go again with shin splints :( = 3 miles
+ Obliques - side bends (3 sets of 10 on each side)
+ Biceps - curls (3 sets of 10)
+ Toe touches? lol IDK what to call it... bending towards my feet with weights in my hands and slowing pulling up to work the lower back (3 sets of 8)
+ Abs - 40 crunches basic, 20 bicycles, 40 crunches left side, 20 bicycles, 40 crunches right side, 20 bicycles, 40 crunches legs flat butterfly position
+ Stretch

So overall I had a great day... I leave for Hawaii tomorrow morning so I will be back the 16th! ALOHA!!! :waving:

*The first picture is from February 2009 when I was 135 lbs. The second picture is from today at 145 lbs. This swim suit was practically falling off of me last year... TOTAL MOTIVATION!!!*

I'm home!

Hawaii was great. There were some very rainy days which put a little damper on the trip but we still stayed busy and had fun! I even snuck in a little fitness... I went to the gym and did zumba for the first time ever! Twice :D It was awesome, and I worked up quite the sweat! We did a lot of sight seeing, swimming and laying on the beach, hanging out with people... but boy I am GLAD to be home!

I felt a little self conscious during my trip whenever I got dressed because I felt chunky. I miss the feeling of my jeans being lose, and not caring if my belly is showing a little at the bottom of my shirt. I want to get HOT again for spring break and I am so ready. I am going to print out my running and push ups training schedules and will be starting tomorrow. I can't wait to run... I've gone a week without it and I seriously miss it!!!

Here are a few pics from vacation... I'll be back tomorrow! :) Time to catch up on some sleep!

SARAH YOU LOOK GREAT!!! I love the pics!! Looking at them just made me so much more excited for my trip! The blue sky and clear water...it's calling my name!!! It's snowing so much here today I'm getting off early or else I might not make it home later!
I'm ready to work hard with you and get that tightness back! Let's have an amazing week!! I'm ready!!

Here we go! This morning I printed off the 100 push ups program schedule as well as the 5K training schedule. I began writing down my food for the day and I'm feeling really organized and ready! Especially with a new semester starting, I'm really going to try to be more organized. I would like to get back into the routine of morning workouts when I can (unless I have work because the gym doesn't open early enough where I can go before work in the morning) and I just want to manage my time better overall.

Today I weighed myself. The good news is I didn't gain any weight on vacation! I actually lost 0.2 since I left. The bad news is that I am now 144. So in a way I feel like I'm starting over (now ALL the way over... but still!) As long as I can get back to 140 I am okay with that. I don't want to keep creeping up back to the 150's. This is my wake up call and it has me feeling very motivated and determined to be consistent with my workouts and eating healthier!

Well, it's time to finish packing up and head back to school. Classes start tomorrow already! Oh boy. The gym is open until 11PM tonight and I have NO excuse not to go. I'll be back later with an update of my workout :)

Sarah!!! OMG You look AMAZING!!!... you look like as my mom would say in Spanish, ..."Como la ultima Coca Cola!" Which means "Like the last Coca Cola!" ...You know how crazy people would get over the last Coke in the world?? ...well. YEA! That's you!! ;)

I am excited about you working this year to refine that body!! It's going to be great!! I think this year you will by far and large surpass the goals you place with yourself because you understand the power of disciplined consistency. You are the QUEEN at that!! :D!

Another year, anotha DOLLA, let me hear ya HOLLA!!!! :D! ;) :coolgleamA: :jump:

Aw, thank you Alta :) You saying this to me really put me into higher spirits and makes me feel like I can really do the things I want to do this time around! Looks like you, Lisa, and I are back in the game all together, it's so motivating! <3

I started day one of the 5K training program and the 100 pushups program! :D

Today's workout:
5K training - 30 minutes intervals (2 minutes walking @ 4.0 mph / 1 minute running @ 7.0 mph) = 2.5 miles total
220 crunches (regular, sides, bicycles)
100 pushups training - 12 pushups

Eating has been good... I ate one cupcake for my roommate's birthday but that's the only junk I ate all day!

Til tomorrow :waving:

Alright, last night after I wrote here my roommate got home (she was turning 21 at midnight) so I had one drink with her and her friends. I snacked after (string cheese, hummus with crackers, two pieces of candy) but I would say I still had a good day over all!

Today is my first day of classes - I have FOUR classes. So I knew I would have to get to the gym early otherwise I wouldn't find time for it. My roommate surprisingly got up to go with me (the one I asked to do this 5K training with me) and we got to the gym before 7AM.

Today's workout:
5K training - 30 minutes intervals (2 minutes walking @ 4.0 mph / 1 minute running @ 7.0 mph) + warm up & cool down = 2.6 miles total
220 crunches (regular, sides, bicycles)

Now I am having some oatmeal for breakfast and getting ready for class! This week is off to a great start :)

Great work getting to the gym this morning! I'm so jealous! I really wish I would have an easier time getting out of bed when my alarm goes off and even just doing 20 min on the treadmill before work. You will inspire me eventually so keep it up!! Just knowing you are getting up will make me want to do it more! That's awesome your roommate joined you!
Have fun at school today - the first class was always the most interesting.

:cheers2: Way to go on the morning workout!! :jump: I finally am starting to feel the burn and the love for the morning workout that you talk about!! haha!

That's really smart in balancing your time! Get it in girl! :D! Very inspiring! ...Your snacking wasn't bad at all. Keep it up! New year!!! :D!

Tuesday was good. Until I started drinking and went out to the bars for my roommate's birthday. When I got home, I ate everything in sight. Then yesterday, I woke up feeling like crap, so then I ate like crap all day, and I didn't even bother going to the gym.

Today is a fresh start though, one bump in the road this week isn't going to screw the rest of it up for me! Right now I'm laying in bed icing my shins because I have shin splints AGAIN (ugh!) probably from taking a week off from running and getting back into it too quickly. I'm not sure I will be able to continue the running program again until this pain goes away. I don't want to make it worse! So when I go to the gym today, I will probably use the elliptical instead of the treadmill. If I get out of class early enough, I might even take step class to get a nice hour of cardio exercise in!

Well, gotta get ready for class now. Three classes until the weekend begins for me! :waving:
