Always Pushing Up The Hill, Searching For The Thrill Of It

You have Friday's off school again this semester? That's so cool! Actually the business program at the uni I went to had Fridays off too which was one of the main reasons I registered for that program! Also it was only 16 hours of school a week so I was able to work almost full time too! My grades weren't great but I passed with close to a 70 average.
Actually my boss called me last week and asked if I would be interested in working Mon-Thurs. 10 hour days and have Friday off - I said sign me up! She has to get it approved from her boss so I won't know for a while but it would be the coolest thing in the world to have Fridays off!
That sucks about the shin splints! Maybe just start off running a mile a day and work your way up. I don't have any advice though because I've been lucky and never got them. Get your butt to step class if you can! I know you won't regret it! Did you get your pushups in yesterday? Hopefully next week I will be on schedule for that!

I hope you get Friday's off! That would be really nice. The only thing I can really do for shin splints is ice, massage, and rest. I'm going to have to ease back into the running once they go away. So I might have to postpone the 5K training. I didn't get the pushups in yesterday but I am doing them today after my workout. I am going to put on my workout clothes before I go to class so I can leave there and go right to the gym! Eating has been good ALL day so far and I'm still not tempted to have a slice of cake or a cupcake that's sitting on our kitchen table staring me in the face! LOL oh and for the pushups thing, I didn't do the initial test, I just chose to do level 1 (beginner) because I suck at push ups! Even day 1 was a little rough!
 
Ooooh... the pushups!! They are DREADED! With p90x and with this trainer I have been cranking out SO MANY PUSHUPS :eek: it's insane! I had no idea there were so many different types in my LIFE! LOL! You go girl! You have the right attitude! Keep it up, your thinking drives your body, so drive your thoughts positive like you have and go GOT THIS!! :cheers2:
 
Thanks Alta! I'm definitely feeling the positivity today... all around here, especially with you and Lisa as my cheerleaders :D :hurray: It really does help me and keeps me going! When I think about cheating or skipping the gym, I think of you guys and it pushes me to just GO and DO IT!!

Feeling GOOD!!! :D Yesterday was terrible but I got RIGHT back on track today and I just feel so good right now!

Today's workout:
2 miles exercise bike
15 minutes core complete abs fitness class
1 hour step fitness class
Day 2 of 100 pushups program - 17 push ups

For dinner I'm going to have some of my leftover light progresso sante fe style chicken and rice soup! Yummm (80 cals for 1 cup) with a salad and maybe a sweet potato. For dessert I will have a yogurt... and I'm going to try my best to stay strong and NOT eat a cupcake! There are like 10 cupcakes sitting in my kitchen right now from the roomie's birthday! AHHHH :willy_nilly: I'm also staying in tonight and taking it easy. No drinking and partying and snacking! I'll be back in the morning :waving:

I stayed in last night, yes. I didn't eat any cupcakes, yes. But I stayed up late and my roommate came back home. She packed a bowl and then we shared a pizza and ate some candy. WHYYYYY DO I HAVE NO SELF CONTROL?!?! I'm so mad at myself, I had done great all day. If I would have just gone to bed early and got a good night's rest, I wouldn't feel like CRAP right now!

Well all this means is that I have to compensate for those extra calories by keeping today's lower and hitting the gym again hard! I don't know what my plans are tonight but it's Friday night so I'm sure I'm not going to just sit at home by myself.

I can't wait to get done with work so I can go to the gym!!!

I don't know how I'm controlling my munchies lately but I'm sure the cruise in the back of my mind is helping. It's so much harder when you have someone doing it with you because it feels so good at the time. Some of my favourite times are smoking up and eating a feast. Next time you smoke try having some tea or a big glass of lemon water and then start doing something like playing games or something that keeps your hands busy. Or I have been brushing my teeth right after and that seems to be helping.
Don't worry about cutting your calories really low today because reality is it's the weekend and if you deprieve yourself you will just end up binging in the end. Just start the day fresh and try the best you can - burn more calories in the gym than you planned and that will make you feel better. Also lots of water!

Ahhhhhhh :rolleyes: the woes of the munchies! I most definitely understand! ...If I had pizza in the house too, I wouldn't be able to resist either! The weird part is I smoke, then workout. HOW? Dunno. Even when I was running the marathon. The smoke puts me in the zone first...and the workout continues it! LOL! I do also smoke and munch. So ...all in all, I realize it's not the smoke for me sometimes. It's just ME using it as an excuse! HAHAH~! And the crunch and taste is amazing of food then! Can you blame us all!? LOL! Damn hippies! ;)!

I will definitely try that next time! I've found that chewing gum helps too. I usually chew like 3 pieces at a time when I'm high LOL

I might have to do the same! It's not like it's really doing anything GOOD for me... plus it's time to start looking for internships and if I need to take drug tests I will have to stop sooner than later!

Gosh I know! Cereal is the BEST when you're high. I love Reces Puffs especially. OR Cupcake Pebbles LOL mmmmmm :drools: but I agree with you, I think most of the time we just make the excuse for ourselves... I was definitely full but oh my god, PIZZA!!!!!

Today's eating wasn't the greatest. Well, it was okay, but I definitely had too many carbs. I came home from work, sat on the couch, and pretty much decided that I probably wouldn't make it to the gym. It was open until 9 so I kept waiting and waiting and I decided not to go. Then 7PM came around and I said no, FUCK THIS I am GOING! Plus I won't be able to workout tomorrow or Sunday because A) I work and B) Packers vs. Bears football game Sunday... I WILL be plastered!!! So yes, anyhoot I made it to the gym!

Today's workout:
2 miles on exercise bike
2.5 miles on treadmill (2 miles running, half mile walking)
1 mile on crossramp, incline @ 20 / resistance @ 10

I decided to stay in tonight so I saved all the drinking calories for tomorrow ;)

Your boobs look so huge in that picture where you call yourself fat - far from it though! And you can get that tummy back for sure!! A couple weeks of hard work and you'll be there! I love the comparison pics though - shows you how far you have come and I know you will never go that far back! I'm assuming you had some drinks last night and I ate enough food for both of us so let's start fresh today and kick this week's behind!

Yes I did drink a lot last night (my Green Bay Packers are in the SUPERBOWL!!!) and I think I ate enough for the both of us for the entire week ;) LOL so yeah I'm back on it today and ready for a good week!

The shin splints have gone away, so I plan to start fresh with the running program. Today will be day 4 for the push ups. I am also going to try a new class at the gym tonight - TurboKick. It is some sort of kick boxing workout so I'm really excited to try it! I will do my half hour of running then take that class which is an hour, so I will be getting in an awesome workout to kick off this week! I'm going to need it after the junk food and beer this weekend!!!

Yesterday = GREAT! Eating was great, workout was awesome! Finally, a completely GOOD day. I ended up going to the gym earlier than I had planned... I stopped by the group fitness room and noticed that the next class was going to be Bosu. I was supposed to do my running and then take TurboKick but I figured what the heck, why not try them both? So I got to Bosu and WOW -- probably my new favorite class! I got a kick ass workout. The instructor was totally awesome, and she made sure we got the most of our workout! An hour long of balance, cardio, strength... I can feel it everywhere today! We worked our arms a LOT, and my booty muscles are aching today!

So after class I walked around the gym for 15 minutes while I waited for TurboKick. When class started, I wasn't really into it. It wasn't what I expected. I got through the first half hour of class and decided to leave after that because I really just wasn't enjoying it. So all in all I got an hour and a half of exercise!

After the gym, I came home and was too lazy to make anything for dinner so I just made some oatmeal, mixed some peanut butter in it, and topped it with a few dried cranberries. The only thing I had after this was a cherry blow pop (60 cal). Usually I eat a LOT after the gym but this time I waited for a while when I got home instead of jumping right to the fridge. I think that helped!

Busy day today... 4 classes! I might take the day off from the gym because I am busy and I am pretty sore today. The main focus is healthy eating!

Did you have to wear boxing gloves in that turbo kick class? They have a class like that at our gym and I've never taken it because I don't have my own boxing gloves and I heard the ones they supply stink so bad.
A full hour of BOSU would kill me! I'm always dying after 30 min! I bought a BOSU last year from at home and barely used it - such a waste - hopefully one day I get back into it!

Thanks Lisa! Now if only I could stay tan! LOL No, we did not wear boxing gloves for TurboKick... that's why I didn't like it. We didn't use any equipment... it was just awkward and we all looked like we were dancing around without a clue of what we were doing! I really fell in love with the BOSU though and I'd like to get my own... definitely put yours to use more! I can STILL feel my ass muscles from all the squats we did on it! My legs were SHAKING after the hour was up!

Alright, another great day down! I didn't make it to the gym (but I wasn't planning on it since I was busy with classes all day) but I kept the eating healthy and didn't over do it! My roomies wanted to go out to the bars but then everyone backed out (thankfully!) but my roommate bought beer for us to drink at the house. I had only one beer (not even the whole thing) and all I ate after that was a small hand full of almonds! So proud for NOT drinking more and invading the kitchen like last week!

Today I only have one class so I have plenty of time for the gym. I am still really sore from BOSU the other night but I have to suck it up and go today! I think I'm going to jump into week 2 of the running program and then get back to my pushups as well!

Tonight I want to cook dinner for the roomies... I found an awesome recipe for cream cheese chicken enchiladas and I am dying for some! I'm going to try to make the recipe healthy however I can, but to be fair I won't indulge because I know it's not the healthiest dish!

More good news tomorrow :waving:
 
Made it to the gym earlier than I thought I would and noticed that there was a group strength fitness class at noon.. so I figured, eh why not try it!? I went into the weight room and warmed up just half a mile on the bike and did a little stretching. Then I headed over to the fitness room. Class started and I was literally EXHAUSTED within the first 10 minutes. Here are some of the things we did:

- Rotating squats across the floor to the other side of the room
- Jumping squats across the floor to the other side of the room
- Lunges across the floor to the other side of the room
- Backwards lunges across the floor to the other side of the room
- 30 seconds toe jumps (jumping high and wrapping your arms around your knees to touch your toes)
- Squats with one leg up on a step (with 2 sets of risers underneath) repeated on other leg
- Lunges with back leg up on a step, repeated on other leg
- Jumping squats - legs straddling the step, squat, jump on top of step, squat, jump back down into straddle around the step
- 30 sec Jumps on and off the step
- 30 sec high knees jumping on and off the step
- Squats with body bar on back of shoulders
- Bench press and dumbbell flys
- Biceps curls
- Triceps extensions with dumbbells and body bar
- Push ups with one arm on the step
- Alternating cross-over push ups with one arm on the step
- Shoulder press with body bar
- 1 minute plank

1 hour of intense strength exercises and my body is shaking! HOLY COW that was not what I expected but I can't WAIT to go back next week and do it again! Loved it!

That class sounds a lot like the one minute solutions class at our gym but it's only 30 min - I don't know if I could last an hour - that is awesome Sarah!! I bet you will be feeling it today! I'm always exhausted after 10 min of kettle bell too. I have to bring a towel to wipe the sweat from my face or else I would slip all over it on the floor! Are you weighing in tomorrow? I hope to keep the next 6 weeks as strong as this one and knowing you are with me will keep my motivation up!

I will probably weigh in tomorrow, I was going to today to see where I'm at compared to the beginning of the week but I already ate and I like to weigh in first thing in the morning! I hope I can keep this up too... I feel like it's starting to get easier! We got this! :hurray:

So yesterday.... another GOOD day! YAY! Here is how it looked:

Breakfast - Oatmeal w/1 tbsp PB and dried cranberries on top
Workout - 1 hour group strength (WOW am I feeling it today!!!)
Lunch - Egg & cheese on english muffin, peach Activia yogurt
Snacks - Pretzels w/ hummus, pickle slice
Dinner - 1 1/2 chicken enchiladas w/ sour cream and refried beans
Snack - Apple

The chicken enchiladas I made turned out pretty good! I used 96% fat free tortillas, (1.5 g fat, 120 cal) and light sour cream. That's about as healthy as they got though! After one I was pretty full, but I wanted a little more so I cut one in half. My roommate ate one and then finished the other half that I cut... 2 hours later she heated up ANOTHER one and ate that while I got myself an apple... I can't believe she can eat like that... she is 4'11 and probably like 95 pounds! (She is the one in the middle of the picture above). I wish I could eat like that and still stay that tiny!! But I didn't need to eat more to feel satisfied and I'm proud of myself for ending the night with just an apple for a snack!

I am SO sore today and I have 3 classes, then I'm going straight home to babysit and take the girls to cheerleading so I won't have time to work out anyway. The challenge of the day is to NOT invade the kitchen when I go to their house to watch the girls! They always have so much snack food! I know I can do it though, I've been good all week - I'm not going to ruin it with mindless snacking!
