It was a good day, ate well, exercised, and feel pretty good tonight. I did 2 different gym workouts, one was weight lifting, the other a kind of group class strength training session. However I did not get a walk in, maybe tomorrow.
Rob lovely pics of water. I do worry you are climbing in areas not suitable for it . Be careful . All the hikes we do are set out and have routes . Anything off that we should have a guide .
Yeah, this place probably isn't suitable for the likes of me anyway. More of a steep scramble/climb than a walk. I turned back when I eyed a small boulder that looked like a suitable foothold. When I probed it with my stick it took off tumbling down the hillside and over a 15 meter or so cliff into the rocky stream. I decided I did not want to be next. None of the mountain hikes I have done near here have any kind of established route or trail, most bushwhacking, and I have never heard of a guide around here. If I drive a few miles I know there are some more established trails, I need to do that I guess. I just like the convenience of being able to walk from home, or just drive 5 min in the case of the waterfall canyon.
What a gorgeous little stream! Does that kilometer count include doubling back or just the net distance?
It is a nice stream, but so steep and rugged its hard to get to. The distance was 1.66 km total, probably half climbing that required use of hands, not a hike. I am no climber, you could probably have done it much more quickly, and maybe gotten to the waterfalls. I know the waterfalls exist, I have seen them from a distance, the water drops probably 100 meters, it would be great to get up there and see it, but maybe not possible for me. I have been asking and cannot find anyone who has actually gotten to the falls.
boy that reminds me so much of a place up in the hills outside our college we called "the Tubs". the streaming dowhill water carved out huge depressions in the rocks and if you could stand the close to freezing water, it was a blast sliding down the worn rock channels and through a series of those pools.
you have a great location to inspire walking ...!
The water in my stream is also freezing cold, its snow melt and the snow is not far away, so the water has only been liquid for a few hours at most. The warmer it gets the higher the water, but that will be ending soon, another month and the snow will be gone. I wish it was a place I could just "walk" to.
Loving the KFC slogan. What did come first...?
You got me interested so I looked it up, here is what Wikipedia says:
"The word "salad" comes to English from the French salade of the same meaning, itself an abbreviated form of the earlier Vulgar Latin herba salata (salted greens), from the Latin salata (salted), from sal (salt). In English, the word first appears as "salad" or "sallet" in the 14th century. Salt is associated with salad because vegetables were seasoned with brine (a solution of salt in water) or salty oil-and-vinegar dressings during Roman times."
So I guess the Colonel was wrong.
Have you googled walking groups in your area, Rob?
Just did and could not find anything. But that is a good idea, I will keep on looking.
You look so content and so normal in terms of not being overweight.
Thanks Jack, and I am happy about it, but not sure content. I am still trying to figure out what it all means and how to stay here.
