He forgot kids playing video games. Nothing ever changes, does it?Wulf blamed the Viking invasion on a long list of English sins and sinners, including "man-slayers, killers of kinsmen, murderers of priests, enemies of monasteries, perjurers, whores, child-killers, foul fornicating adulterers, witches, Valkyries, robbers, plunderers, and mighty despoilers."
It was in 1014 that Wulfstan, archbishop of York, preached his homily Sermo Lupi ad Anglos ("Wulf's Address to the English"), describing the Danes (Vikings) as "God's judgement on England". It is one of only a very few surviving sermons from that era. Wulf blamed the Viking invasion on a long list of English sins and sinners, including "man-slayers, killers of kinsmen, murderers of priests, enemies of monasteries, perjurers, whores, child-killers, foul fornicating adulterers, witches, Valkyries, robbers, plunderers, and mighty despoilers."

I don't know, not sure people complain about Valkyries any more. Had to look that up, Valkyries are the women in Valhalla who get to decide who lives and who dies in the day's battle. Guess its best to be nice to the Valkyries.Nothing ever changes, does it?
Thanks Cate, that is a good point, and I would guess I ate more protein on my trip. After reading your comment I added some hard boiled eggs today.Don't forget that you did very well on higher protein
Thanks Petal, though I have trouble envisioning myself as "very disciplined". In most ways I am not, I feel more like I just get lucky now and then whilst muddling through.I agree Rob you were very disciplined and managed your food well
Thanks Emily, I am sure you are right, guess I need to make an effort to move more when I am home. You were probably a lot more active when you were away - moving around and talking to loads of different people all burns more energy
I also liked that one, sounds like a good name for a motorcycle gang or something."mighty despoilers" indeed
Absolutely, being busy with lots of people and things is a good distraction from eating, and probably burns a few calories.Perhaps all the activity and interaction was helpful as well? May be something that could help in maintenance.
That's wonderful Rob! Do you know what tasks you'll have there? Too bad about the breakfast offered being on the junky end. It's too bad that is so common in our society. Anyways hopefully you'll learn lots of interesting stuff there!I spent the morning at the Bear River Bird Refuge (Home - Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge - U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service ) beginning the process of becoming a volunteer,
I just know people at the time used the term to shame women weren't submissive enough for their liking. I mostly associate the Valkyries with Wagner's Ring.I don't know, not sure people complain about Valkyries any more.
I am sure I'll start at the bottom, working the front desk talking to the tourists. That's fine with me, I like people, but I don't know a whole lot to tell them yet.Do you know what tasks you'll have there?
Thanks LaMa, it is still kind of an unknown thing, and until all of my government clearances come through I am not official. It's kind of crazy, but that's our federal government. Guess you wouldn't want terrorists, communists, Valkyries or illegal aliens consorting with the geese.Fingers crossed for the volunteer position - and maybe with time you can affect some healthy changes there
You ain't going to let me go on this one are you Petal? I have always prided myself in being a kind of laissez-faire disorganized guy, not one to follow the mainstream. Is it possible to still be that and add "great discipline" to the list of traits? I don't know.See that’s great discipline Rob not to have the pastries
Assuming all goes well I will be reporting back. I am sure there are birders there who will have the list. I like birds, and I appreciate the birds you have written about but to be honest I am not one to identify a lot of them. Whenever asked I always say I think its a western wood peewee, not really sure what a western wood peewee looks like but I like the name. Guess I will be developing a new skill.Rob. I'll look forward to hearing about it. I wonder how many species they have sighted there.
That's so great Rob. When was the last time you fit into those--was it really like 30 years ago? it's nice that you kept the faith that you would get here one day and now here you are!I always kept the clothes as I grew out of them in hopes that one day they might fit again, that day has come.
That made me laugh. 30 year old chocolate bar!! I am glad you weren't tempted...i don't think i'd risk that either! When I put the shirt on I found 1/2 of a chocolate bar in the pocket, probably 30 years old.
