Alligatorob's Diary

Rob, 215 pounds is fantastic! Well done.

I did laugh at your aunt trying to fatten you up again, haha. The food sounded (and looked) delicious. All that fish must be very good for you regardless.

Rob, you never cease to amaze me. I think your holiday might have given you an insight into how well you will be able to manage maintenance. We all have confidence in you. Well done!

Yes I agree with everyone else--a really great job and I think a really good sign of how well the transition to maintenance will go. I am just so happy that you were able to really enjoy your trip and visits with everyone, and that you were able to enjoy all the delicious food in moderation!

It was a good day, my first back in the cold frozen north, but all went well and I feel good.

Thanks all, LaMa, Petal, Misty, Cate, Liza and all others who I may not be able to catch up to. It did go well, and perhaps y'all are right it could be a good intro to maintenance, we'll see. I think the big weight loss was probably a lucky bounce, and partly that I did eat pretty well. But eating well does not usually result in a 7 lb loss in 2 weeks, I know that. We'll see what the next week brings. And as I have said before I would not be here or doing this without y'all's help, thanks.

It was in 1014 that Wulfstan, archbishop of York, preached his homily Sermo Lupi ad Anglos ("Wulf's Address to the English"), describing the Danes (Vikings) as "God's judgement on England". It is one of only a very few surviving sermons from that era. Wulf blamed the Viking invasion on a long list of English sins and sinners, including "man-slayers, killers of kinsmen, murderers of priests, enemies of monasteries, perjurers, whores, child-killers, foul fornicating adulterers, witches, Valkyries, robbers, plunderers, and mighty despoilers." If that was the English at the time maybe the Vikings weren't so bad.

He forgot kids playing video games. Nothing ever changes, does it?

I agree Rob you were very disciplined and managed your food well. You thought it out and planned ahead.
I think you will do well in maintenance mode.

Nice to see the world was as divided as ever in 1014. This us against them mentality has never gone away.

You were probably a lot more active when you were away - moving around and talking to loads of different people all burns more energy. So that could have contributed.

Amazing that you actually lost 7 lbs on your extended road trip, Rob. I can't fathom the level of self-discipline required. Congratulations on your continued success on your weight-loss journey.

What a fantastic quote. This was clearly a fire-and-brimstone preacher of the highest order - "mighty despoilers" indeed.

Great job, Rob. That's a crazy amount of determination and will-power! Perhaps all the activity and interaction was helpful as well? May be something that could help in maintenance.

It was a good day, I ate well and feel good.

I spent the morning at the Bear River Bird Refuge (Home - Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge - U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service ) beginning the process of becoming a volunteer, Cate if you are reading this thanks for the suggestion. It went well, except that we were to be fed breakfast and the only thing I found I could eat were 3 small oranges, it was mostly donuts and pastries. Not a big problem, but it brought my calorie count down a little lower than planned.
Nothing ever changes, does it?
I don't know, not sure people complain about Valkyries any more. Had to look that up, Valkyries are the women in Valhalla who get to decide who lives and who dies in the day's battle. Guess its best to be nice to the Valkyries.
Don't forget that you did very well on higher protein
Thanks Cate, that is a good point, and I would guess I ate more protein on my trip. After reading your comment I added some hard boiled eggs today.
I agree Rob you were very disciplined and managed your food well
Thanks Petal, though I have trouble envisioning myself as "very disciplined". In most ways I am not, I feel more like I just get lucky now and then whilst muddling through.

Thanks Emily, I am sure you are right, guess I need to make an effort to move more when I am home.

I also liked that one, sounds like a good name for a motorcycle gang or something.

Absolutely, being busy with lots of people and things is a good distraction from eating, and probably burns a few calories.

991 is a prime number and the sum of five consecutive prime numbers (191 + 193 + 197 + 199 + 211) and the sum of seven consecutive primes (127 + 131 + 137 + 139 + 149 + 151 + 157). It's also the phone country code for Tajikistan. But nothing interesting seems to have happened in 991 AD.

I don't know, not sure people complain about Valkyries any more.
I just know people at the time used the term to shame women weren't submissive enough for their liking. I mostly associate the Valkyries with Wagner's Ring.

Fingers crossed for the volunteer position - and maybe with time you can affect some healthy changes there.

See that’s great discipline Rob not to have the pastries . Well done .
I avoid them in work too . We have nearly every day . I hope I never give into them again . Thank god for the oranges.

I'm glad you're volunteering at the bird sanctuary, Rob. I'll look forward to hearing about it. I wonder how many species they have sighted there.

It was a good day, I ate pretty well and feel good.

Had a non-scale thing today. I tried on the one remaining shirt that was too small and it now fits fine. I have gone from 6 large moving boxes full of too small clothes accumulated over the last 30 years to zero. I always kept the clothes as I grew out of them in hopes that one day they might fit again, that day has come. I am not keeping the too big clothes, most are already gone and I made another Goodwill box today. Only the best of my Hawaiian shirt collection remains, boxed away. My clothing supply is getting pretty small, guess I'll have to start buying new now. When I put the shirt on I found 1/2 of a chocolate bar in the pocket, probably 30 years old. A poignant reminder of why the shirt stopped fitting. That chocolate wasn't too tempting, but many times in my life I'd have tried to eat it. Can't forget.
Do you know what tasks you'll have there?
I am sure I'll start at the bottom, working the front desk talking to the tourists. That's fine with me, I like people, but I don't know a whole lot to tell them yet.
Fingers crossed for the volunteer position - and maybe with time you can affect some healthy changes there
Thanks LaMa, it is still kind of an unknown thing, and until all of my government clearances come through I am not official. It's kind of crazy, but that's our federal government. Guess you wouldn't want terrorists, communists, Valkyries or illegal aliens consorting with the geese.
See that’s great discipline Rob not to have the pastries
You ain't going to let me go on this one are you Petal? I have always prided myself in being a kind of laissez-faire disorganized guy, not one to follow the mainstream. Is it possible to still be that and add "great discipline" to the list of traits? I don't know.
Rob. I'll look forward to hearing about it. I wonder how many species they have sighted there.
Assuming all goes well I will be reporting back. I am sure there are birders there who will have the list. I like birds, and I appreciate the birds you have written about but to be honest I am not one to identify a lot of them. Whenever asked I always say I think its a western wood peewee, not really sure what a western wood peewee looks like but I like the name. Guess I will be developing a new skill.

It was in 1009 that the first mention of Lithuania appeared in print. It was in connection with the beheading of Saint Bruno of Querfurt and the hanging of 18 of his compatriots for trying to spread Christianity in the region. Kind of ominous beginning for a county. It would be another couple of hundred years before Lithuania would emerge as a state.

I always kept the clothes as I grew out of them in hopes that one day they might fit again, that day has come.
That's so great Rob. When was the last time you fit into those--was it really like 30 years ago? it's nice that you kept the faith that you would get here one day and now here you are!
When I put the shirt on I found 1/2 of a chocolate bar in the pocket, probably 30 years old.
That made me laugh. 30 year old chocolate bar!! I am glad you weren't tempted...i don't think i'd risk that either!

Rob, Rob! I've just this minute read in the 200-250 Club, and I'm so pleased for you! :D :D :D

And ha ha ha ha to think you were worried about how you'd manage maintenance!! I think now you know! :D I've just seen (a quick glance up-page) that you've begun the volunteering at the bid sanctuary, too - oh, everything's going so well for you, and I'm so glad! Just lovely!!!
