A new stage of the journey

ok, i fucked up my hand today, might be fractured doc couldn't tell from xray, fingers crossed it is only soft tissue damage.

I got started lifting seriously when i was training to improve my lineout lifts for Rugby, and i have always been attracted to unusual non mainstream sports. I had spent time lifting previously but it was usually only when training for other sports. at that time I had moved states and needed another sport to do in the Rugby off season.

I had heard of powerlifting but had never seen it and never met anybody who did it, so i done some research, joined a federation and wen't to my first competition a full days train ride away where i knew no one and without my own support base. I won not only my division but also best female lifter, I have been hooked ever since :) i learned a lot and discovered unlike many other sports the competitors are friendly and helpfull, cheering you on and happy to give tips to improve form and training. I picked up some good information from a world record holder in the deadlift at the last state titles.

Today my thumb is extreeeemy sore, I cant use my right hand and my usual training is out the window, I will get in some time on the wii if i can secure my hand enough so it doesnt move or bump anything. I have to go and see the doc again tomorrow, I have fingers crossed that it is not broken but the loud snapping noise when i injured it is not encouraging as i bent the thumb backwards untill the thumbnail toiched my wrist.

I wasnt even lifting at the time, i was removing a tight squat suit :( which i was wearing for the first time as i usually squat RAW.

BUMMER to hear about the thumb injury ... is it swollen yet? How painful is it?

On a much more positive note -- awesome work on the BP, Tru!! VERY impressive :) That's more than my personal best, so keep on rocking those pecs!

Squat suits are tough to get into (and out of). I actually blew the ass out of a squat suit at the gym awhile back. And I didn't have any undies on underneath it ... :D

I've never worn a bench shirt, but I have a couple of friends who use them (male) and they are not easy to get into. You need at least one other person to help (preferably two). Make sure the shoulders at the back aren't wrapped around too far. I'm sure you know the drill ;)

Any questions, just ask :)

i have an inzer rage, it is good for a flat bench and has the stretchy back to make it a bit easier to get into. If i ever develop much of an arch i will move to a rage X which is better for a big arch or a phenom.

the squat suit i just got is a basic Z suit i have a better one but can't get into it :) my quads are too big and i have not been able to get the legs up even with help, suit slippers and lots of talcum powder:svengo:

as for deadlift i will be lifting in an erector shirt, i am having the same prob with my DL suit as i am having with my good squat suit.

up till now all my lifts have been with a soft suit and belt only.

I hope your thumb feels better! You amaze me - like I said earlier, I'm pretty sure I would have passed out if I heard my body crack. AHH! Hope it's OK! Keep us updated after the doctor's! :)

I used to train for the basketball team in college after football season was over. Be careful of thumb injuries there is not a lot of bloodflow to some of the bones at the base of the thumb and those injuries can be very slow to heal. Thanks for your encouraging words on my thread and on lots of others. You are doing nice things for the folks here

thanks everybody for dropping in, it is much eppreciated :)

today is another forced layoff from the gym :( thumb is still very sore but i am convinced it is not broken (Thank god i have a heavy bone structure) still cant write and i am not quick enough with my left so i am missing class today. I will try to fit in some light exercise at home. The hard part of not going to the gym is that i have more time at home with more opportunity to snack :( BUT hubby is back at work today so no more offers of soft drink, and other diet nasties that i need to refuse.

Oh sorry about all that. I am having the worst struggle with a cookie-ice-cream sandwich craving I'm fighting :boxing: <----like this. Stay strong, woman!

Tru-bummer bummer bummer. Hope thumb gets better ice and ibuprofen are your friends! I am with you when I am home is when I have most trouble if I WAS a stay at home mom I would be HUGE.

ok so far so good today, eating has been ok despite lack of time spent at the gym but my thumb luckily is not broken and i hape to get back to the gym tomorrow to do some assistance exercises to boost bench without actually doing any bench pressing as it would pot to much preasure on my hand at this stage. i will need to be working the triceps, lats and traps to improve my bench.

Just checking in on you and your ooowwwiiieee thumb
:(I hope the gym goes ok for you tomorrow...you are very dedicated to working out and i know that thumb isnt gonna hold you back very much, you will find a way to work around it:)!!!

Good news about the thumb, Tru. I'm glad it's not broken, although those types of injuries can take some time in resolving themselves, so be patient ;)

I wish you much luck in preparing for the comp!!!! I'm gunning for you :)

it looks like the break from my regular workout has kicked in a change on the scales, I cant workout till tonight as hubby has the car and 25K is a bit far to walk each way to the gym :) it is raining today so i will probabley be hanging around the chat room during the day if anybody wants to say hi.

muscle, relly, thanks for dropping in to check on me, Val i kept the cravings under control :smash:

Jello if ya want to check the weather here

this weather station is south of where i live but it is close enough to give you an idea :)

it has been way to humid today especialy between rain patches, just sitting doing nothing has had me dripping in sweat.

did not make it into the gym today, but an hour of hard work on our 15 acres was plenty of physical activity in the conditions.

self confidence has always been a bit of a problem of mine but with the support i have been getting for my lifting i finally believe I AM an Athlete and I CAN win the Australian Benchpress championship in my division. My full meet total has a bit more to go :)
