A Day In The Life of m2m :)

Hi All,
Megan didn't go to swim practice, so I took a little walk tonight - 2.4 miles. I had 1273 calories today.

It's so different walking in the evening than it is in the morning - the air, even when cool feels different, and it's clear the energy level isn't the same. It's after work, after a full day and lots of people out strolling vs. "walking"

It makes for a nice change - or addition ;)

M2M,

hey, thanks for stopping by my journal... I appreciate it :)

Wow 43 lbs shaved off, that's an amazing feat, and the only exercise you've been doing is moving your feet? well done... I owe a lot of my early weight loss to walking.

I've joined the august club as well, best of luck to you!

Thanks Mike,
Yeah, walking has been it for me...I walk every day and my weekly average is about 5 miles a day. I'm working on getting faster, but currently, I'm averaging 16-17 minutes a mile. I've never been one who likes to run, but I definitely like to swim and bike, so I can seriously see following your lead some day with a triathalon entry ;)

My intent over the next few weeks is to figure out what I need to do and start adding resistance training to my schedule. I need to start working on toning my upper body and stomach.

Resistance training

G'day M2M - I 've just been browsing your diary, I usually catch up with you on the other thread! Just wanted to tell you that you'll notice a big difference once you start doing resistance training. I love doing my program at the gym. I feel strong and empowered and there is a definite "I am woman hear me roar" type of vibe whenever I finish a session:) Even though my weightloss is only 11lbs since the end of July, I've lost 5cms off my waist, and my arms and shoulders are beginning to actually take shape as opposed to just being round:)

Enjoy your music and walking!

I am impressed with your commitment to exercise, and you will see quick results with upper body strength training.

I know you will keep up the great work!

Hi Everyone :)

I didn't walk this morning, but I'm planning on walking tonight a little. I wanted to give my legs a day of rest ;)

I'm heading off to the beach today and then to take Megan to swim practice.

The scale has been sitting on the same number every day this week - I'm not letting it bother me, since I know that the numbers add up to weightloss in the end. I'm ovulating this week, I wonder if that causes you to retain water? I know the ramifications of TOM, but I've never paid attention to the middle section of my cycle to know one way or the other in terms of losing weight.

I also haven't been drinking as much water this week, I've been averaging around 50-60oz instead of my regular 100oz.

I am certain your TOM makes you retain H2O! In fact I read an article just the other day that said women gain between 5 and 10 lbs on average! So no worries....your doing so incredible! Enjoy the beach for me too!

Wow, what an inspiration you are!!!

Your success so far is exciting and motivating to me! Congratulations on your weight loss. It feels good to go down in size, doesn't it? I can't wait to see your "typical model of weight loss" picture!!!

Thanks for sharing your journey in your diary.:)

Day of rest for the legssounds good, I've had to do the same yesterday. they were protesting just a bit too much! Hope you have a lovely weekend M2M!:)

Yesterday was a nice day at the beach, and unfortunately, we had to leave for swim practice way too early. Meg was always due to be on deck at 6:30 on Thursdays, but last week it got changed to 4:30 - and they're not changing it back :(

Me thinks we're going to have to skip Thursday's swim practice - it was terrible leaving! Not to mention, I klonked my head as I was getting in my car and thought I was going to pass out - I ended up sitting on the grass and cried. Poor Megan, she said later, "Mom, I've NEVER seen you cry because of pain before."

I finished the day with 1245 calories - and it was a struggle to get that much. Each day, I've been starting out light and not packing enough calories. I walked 3.5 miles today - Friday is generally light since I put about 5 miles on my feet working (I only work on Fridays).

Spelin, you're right, TOM can seriously effect the scales in my house - but I was wondering if ovulating can - I'm right in the middle of my cycle, TOM's not due for another 2 weeks - and the scales have been staying the same all week (214).

Moondance, thanks for stopping by, and YES, going down a size (2 so far) feels PHENOMENAL!! I actually measured myself, and from what I remember of the last time I measured - which may not have been at my heaviest, I have lost 3 inches in the bust, 2 inches in the waist and 4 inches in the hips!

Crunchie, you have a great weekend too hun!

I'll be gone the rest of the day, but will catch up tonight or over the weekend.
:)

I bet the beach was nice. Is it far?

I know TOM affects me. This time it's during that I'm bloated. Maybe ovulation can be a bad time too. I've heard about being tender at that time.

You mentioned upper body strength training. This site shows pictures and simple descriptions of exercises you can do to improve your core, upper and lower body strength, and also stretching.

OK - I'm going to post my daily calories now before I eat any more ;)
I'm *ending* the day with 1485, I was going to stop with only 1/2 an avocado, but man, the other half was looking so lonely!

I'm looking at changing my walking around, and am going over the excercises from the link Patty sent (thanks again!) as well as some from an article in Prevention magazine for walking. I have to mix things up a bit and throw in the toning excercises - I just don't want to give up my walking in place of the excercises, so we'll see what I come up with.

There is one article that is a guide for training to do a walking marathon - that would be *so* cool!

G'night everyone :D

Hey girl...... half of an avocado; I'm lucky if i can only eat one whole one. Id love to plant a few avocado trees, or are the bushes? any how from seed I think it takes like 10 years to put out fruit. Man the store is only 15 mins away lol..... keep up the good work.... I think your doing great.

I just started my "diet" a week ago, and my TOM is quickly approaching. It will be interesting to see how that effects my weight. I wish I lived near a beach that would be so relaxing, and to walk along the shore line would be so fun! How on earth do you walk so MANY miles a day!!!!! You rock.

Hello, M!

How's your noggin? I think you are going to like adding some strength training to your routine. It makes you feel strong. I hope you are having a great Saturday.

My Week Looking Back & Looking Forward :D

8/05 6.6 miles 1065 calories
8/06 6.5 miles 1114 calories
8/07 5.4 miles 1335 calories
8/08 4.4 miles 764 calories
8/09 6.9 miles 1273 calories
8/10 .0 miles 1245 calories
8/11 3.5 miles 1485 calories

I went 33.3 miles for an average of 4.76 miles per day and had 8,281 calories for an average of 1183 per day.

I only lost 1 pound, but at least I get to move my ticker ;)

My plan for next week is to increase my calories to 1300-1500 per day. I didn't intend to have such a low week, I just don't think I put as much thought into my menu. I've been going to Trader Joe's and picking up their premade salads, but have ended up splitting them with Megan - so often I start out with more calories planned then I've been getting - and I think I need more to keep losing.

I have a whole new plan for my walking routine.
I feel really good about the distance - and would like to throw some cross training and intensity bursts into the schedule - so here's the plan:

Saturday - Xtrain 25 minutes (2 circuits) of excercises that worked my glutes, calves, thighs, triceps, abs, shoulders, chest, quads & abs. There were a total of 10 excercises that I did for a minute each, two times. (It doesn't sound like a lot of time, but OMG - they kicked my butt!)

Short (2.5 mile) walk with a 1:5 Intensity Burst (I did a moderate walk for 5 minutes, then ran for 1 minute and kept alternating.

Sunday - Endurance walk - 7 miles Moderate pace (3 mph)
Monday - Xtrain 2 circuits & 2.5 miles Moderate (3 mph)
Tuesday - Intensity Walk - 4 miles 1:5 Intensity Bursts (3.5-4mph)
Wednesday - Xtrain 2 circuits & 2.5 miles Moderate (3 mph)
Thursday - Intensity Walk - 4 miles 1:5 Intensity Bursts (3.5-4mph)
Friday - Recovery Walk - 3 miles (3 mph)

This plan will drop my distance by 8 miles, but the goal is threefold:
1. Get some xtraining excercising in.
2. Get used to bursts of intensity which hopefully will help me go faster in the long run I'd like to get to 4 mph.
3. Increase my endurance - each week I plan on adding a mile to my endurance walk on Sunday's until I'm up to 13 miles (1/2 marathon).

So that's the plan :D

Hi Heidi! It's great to hear you're starting on this journey!! I think getting started is truly the hardest part. After that, momentum can carry you along ;)

I don't live close to the beach, I'm about 25 minutes away - so unfortunately, I don't get to walk it! That would be beyond cool for me :) As for the amount of miles, I walk early in the morning, so that my excercise time doesn't really interfere with the schedule of anyone else in the house. It's time I used to either sleep or park my butt on the computer. I'd rather be moving now!!

Piney, thanks for stopping by and asking, my head is much better, I still have a little lump, but it no longer hurts to touch my head - man I was seeing stars that day!

Hey Lee, the iPod is GREAT!! I still only have Dave Matthews on it, and will ultimately get some variety going, but it makes me wonder how I managed so long without it! I spent *2* hours this last week just exploring iTunes and listening to the music - the real bummer is they only give you 30 seconds!

I called Bob and asked him "Why hasn't anyone told me about this before???" The site is addictive!

I tried some podcasts, but I can't listen to them when I walk, I was hoping to rip some books on cd that I've been wanting to listen to, but I don't know how that's going to work with walking either - I practically dance while I'm out there walking - I play the drums, sing loud - I must look like the world's largest crazy person - but I'm ok with that ;)
