Oh Jenn!!
I am so glad to hear you're hitting the pool!! Good for you!! It really was amazing once I started looking around - even the "skinny" people probably felt they had areas of their body they would like to work on. I tell ya, being quasi naked is a great equalizer ;)

And yes, I definitely think it was a sodium overload coupled with TOM arriving. I just don't think I had ever in my life stepped on a scale and seen such a huge difference in such a short time! Remember, my scale lived in the back of my closet for at least 10 years - I've never known the ups and downs quite so intimately LOL!!

For beer, I was sticking with Red Tail - I love Guiness but figured I should go with something a bit lighter but still drinkable ;) The wine, well, that wasn't quite planned, a friend's husband brought me an Old Vine Zin, knowing that I would love it. I simply couldn't let him drink alone :D And the margaritas and bahama mama, well, they were made by girlfriends, and well, they just kind of happened! What's funny, is that on camping trips in the past, I never even *thought* about how much I ate or drank! The frustration with this trip is that I got up by 5:30 each morning and walked. I ate well for breakfast, lunch and dinner with the anticipation that the snacking and drinking would balance out the rest of my calories, at least keeping them under 1800 a day. I had no clue that so much sodium could really effect me like that! But I did have a great time - there were 38 of us, and we camp a lot together, so it's like family without the baggage ;) It wouldn't be such a problem, but I camp a lot with them - I need to find better ways of dealing with it. I didn't snack at all throughout the day. I didn't snack during the games. I didn't have any s'mores, I had yogurt for breakfast (no eggs, bacon, sausage or pancakes), I ate a salads for lunch.

It's the happy hour I need to work on - oh and the drinking LOL!

Cheap booze!! The swines :D

I fell foul of buy one get one free on ice cream today  Its a conspiracy I swear!!!

You two are too funny!

The problem is, I'm not willing to give up the spirits - so I have to figure out how to incorporate it into my life.

Now that salt...that stuff is Outta Here!!

And buy one icream get one free?? Do you mean cones or cartons?
;)

Confession time, you are going to feel really good about yourself after this ......

I bought 4 boxes of ice creams for £5. I couldn't decide on chocolatey or fruity. I had 6 magnums (I'm sure you have them, they are like Dove Bars I think), 8 mini twisters (fruity, sorbet lollies) and 6 mini callipos (fruit lollies in a tube). I also had 150g of choc covered banana chips, a small bag of white choc and cranberry rice clusters and a big plate of chips (english, big, thick fries). I don't mind having a bit of sugar, but that was a B-I-N-G-E!!!!

I think Jenn is right. If you are going to drink spirits, something like a bloody mary is probably great because you have a bit of vodka, and the rest is veg!!

OMG - LOL! Mrs B, you're right, that is a B-I-N-G-E! Did you eat that all or just buy them?

As for the Bloody Mary's - I can't suck down tomato juice to save my life! It's a good thought though!

Ate it all, plus my porridge for breaky and some rice cakes and cream cheese for lunch. I had approximately 5-6000 cals today  Hubby was meant to have some of them, and I had thought about only having a few today, but once I have sugar I turn into a FIEND!!! :( That is why I am trying to give up sugar, it does baaaaad things to me. Since I started losing weight a couple of weeks before joining this forum, I have lost 15 lbs, so I can be good and in control, but every now and then I lose control, and that is when I am in danger of putting all my weight back on. That is the yo-yoer in me. The good thing is that this forum helps me stay focussed, so that if I have a day like today, I don't have another, and another, and another .......

Good for you Mrs. B for knowing when to stop then! Yes, having day after day after day would be a baaaad thing!

Hey M2M--I hope you're staying cool. We're getting your heat wave now. That water weight is a killer. Mine is finally off now so now I just want to lose the rest of the 190 or so pounds I want off :)

Hey M2M, I just wanted to check in with you. I had to read a while to catch up! Don't worry about the ups and downs. They're part of this strange journey we're all on together, and as long as you "trend" downward, you're OK. As for the "spirits" just remember 7 calories per gram of alcohol (plus all the sugars in your mixers and sweeter liquors). As long as you account for it, and don't let the lowered inhibitions screw up your eating, don't worry!

I have to insert a note to Mrs. Bear (and anyone else with the sugar trigger problem) here: Mrs. B, I know what that sugar demon is like, and you have to find some way to avoid it entirely. Your body craves sugar, but if you can't control that you're setting yourself up for failure. It builds up, and it can be very depressing. I've dealt with this for years. My semi-solution is hard candies. They're 20-25 calories each, I don't allow myself to chew them (have to suck on them until they're gone, and that takes at least 15 minutes for some). This helps me avert a binge almost every time. Sometimes I have to have 2 or 3 hard candies one after another, but that takes long enough to eat that I've only consumed 60 calories instead of 600. I swear by it. I buy them in bulk in all of my favorite flavors. If you only eat one at a time, and you don't allow yourself to chew them up, you can't possibly go overboard on them, it takes too long! Give it a try if you can't get off the sugar entirely.

Hey M2M I feel your pain regarding the slight gain in weight. I'm going through exactly the same myself at the moment!:(

Thanks for posting your pictures on my diary, I love burmese pythons despite one attempting to eat me when I was younger hehehe.

I'm not ready to give up drinking yet either. When I was young and foolish my friend and I actually didn't drink a single drop of alcohol for one summer and we lost a lot of weight. Mind you we drank almost every night before then and all the uncontrolled munching that goes with that.

Now I drink like an adult. You know how it is when you are 19/20 and legal. Well 21 for those of you who are American. Not the most sensible when it comes to alcohol. At least I like to think that I am smarter now anyway!

I am trying to figure out how to include alcohol into my life without paying for it in the hips and thighs.

Hey MP .... thanks for the advice, but I have a problem with will power. I would chew them, I wouldn't be able to stop myself. Plus sugar is like booze for me ... I have a bit and I just think, what the helll, I'm having a binge. If I don't have it for a good long time, I don't miss it, so I think that is the key for me ;)

How about Cranberry and Malibu. Yum yum....Hope you had a great weekend. ;)

Hi Everyone...

I went for my walk this morning, but decided to take it easy. I only put in 3.3 miles. Someone mentioned something to me yesterday that has me concerned about walking 'too' much. The comment was 'will my body become so accustomed to walking 5m a day that it becomes the body's norm? Would I have to increase either duration or intensity to get the same benefit?'

I have to say, I really, really, don't want to add more time or distance right now. I'm trying to cut down how long it takes me, but that's all I can do right now. Is walking every day a bad thing ultimately? Anyway, that's what I have to figure out.

My weight is almost back to normal - I was 218 last Monday and this morning, I'm at 219. I think going up 9 pounds and down 8 in one week is just ridiculous!

MissP, thanks for the tip about the hard candy, I think I'll try that as well. I've been popping gum for the same reason, but I get tired of chewing ;)

Jenn, I think we led parallel lives ;) I call those days the Y&D days (young and dumb)! I'm MUCH more moderate now. Of course, when added up over the course of a short camping trip, it kind of FELT a little excessive!

Mrs. B, it's good you're able to know what works for you, and knowing you need to stay away from sugar is a GOOD thing to know!

Jodee, thanks for the alternative selections - I'll have to give them a try.

I don't know if I've listed my calories for the past few days, so I'll post them now and be caught up...

7/29 4.7 miles 1169 calories
7/30 4.6 miles 1175 calories
7/31 3.3 miles & still eating ;)

That's a good question about the walking and if anyone knows the answer I'd be very interested as I'm in the same boat as M2M.

On the alcohol front, how about just doing tequila shots. And then you'll pass out dead drunk before the snacking even starts!! LOL!!!!! Yeah, okay that's probably not sensible.

I'm glad your water has shifted this week, I know it's a shocker when it builds up but just the fact that it went so quickly was a sure sign it was just that....stupid water weight!!!

Hope you're having a great day!

So today is the first day in over a month I didn't take my walk. I decided yesterday that until I get more information on the walking bit, I'm going to go every other day. I have a site to check out with info, but I just haven't gotten to it yet.

Last night was my book club meeting with my girl friends. I so love getting together with them, but there is so much food! I stayed away from all the typical desert foods, with the exception of one piece of chocolate covered toffee pistachios - I didn't touch the chocolate brownie, peanut butter cheesecake bars either ;) I did have probably close to 1000 calories though which brings my daily total to ~1610. I had one beer and one Mohito to drink, snacked a lot on white meat chicken, a ton of blue berries & raspberries (without the creamy sauce that went with them), a couple of mozzerella/tomato/basil slices, some bruchette and that's about it.

The discussion was great :D

Pineola, thanks for the idea of rum and diet coke, but I don't drink diet sodas - I just need to allow room in my daily calorie content for whenever I drink ;) Fortunately, I've cut it down *a lot*!!

Scarlett - I love your idea about tequilla shots! That would sure eliminate the extra snacking!! Of course, I better keep losing weight if I plan on needing anyone to carry me to a guest bedroom! LOL!

Hope you're all having a good day :D

You have such excellent will power .... all those tempting treats sounded mmmmmmm delicious!! (key board short circuits from drool £^*&(hg&%$)

Way to go, and keep up the fab work ;)

Thanks Mrs. B - it wasn't too hard to not eat the chocolate stuff - and there were tons, chocolate covered caramel squares, belgian chocolate, little squares of milk and dark chocolate, apple pie, etc. but I would have had to cross the room and lean over the coffee table in front of all of them to snack, and well, I couldn't do that ;) It was easier to leave the living room and come back with a plate of chicken and berries!

My daughter just came out today and said "Mom, since you missed your walk this morning, I have some excercises planned for you. I have put off watching TV or playing in my room to do this for you, but I think you're worth it."

She then proceeded to put me through the rigors of her swim team excercisses. Crunches, push ups, hopping-up-down-make-you-feel-like-an-idiot type excercises, stretches, you name it.

She was so cute!
