50 Pounds to Subaru Journal

I am always scared I'm doing something wrong when it comes to weight training. I'm lucky my hubby is so good with weights and he can show me.

Do you have any friends who do that kind of stuff that can give you a run through? I also knwo that you can find illustrations of how to use stuff online sometimes.

Keep up the good work! :D

I have been trying to tell myself that the reason everybody in the gym looks the way they do is because they keep going to the gym. If i keep going, I'll look like that soon too and people will be intimidated by me :)

I can sure feel the soreness in muscles from working out, so I guess I'm doing something right.

Another question for ya'll:

How do you by clothes for the interval, and do you ever find it frustrating? My current jeans at size 18 are almost literally falling off of me, and there's only so much a belt can do. But then I go to the store, and can barely squeeze into a 16 (in fact, if I went by what fit best, I'd be going up to a 20). I just can't bring myself to buy jeans in a 20 now that 18s are too big!!

Try washing your jeans in very hot water - to shrink them until you're down to something you feel comfortable buying. Also, try skirts and elastic waist bands or drawstring waist bands.

And don't worry so much about the gym thing - 9 times out of 10, they're thinking the same thing about you (watching and thinking maybe they're doing it wrong) Just walk in with confidence, know that you're doing what works best for you!

Ahh...who cares if you fumble it a little bit--you're new at, if they laugh or smirk they are probably thinking 'She just did exactly what I did the first time I tried that machine'. In general I've found everyone at the gym to be really nice and helpful.

:) Keep up the good work Narcissa!

I went to the gym tonight and started my TV show for during the workout. About 10 minutes in on the elliptical I didn't feel up to it, so I switched to the treadmill. Another 15 minutes, and it still wasn't clicking, so I tried to go back to the elliptical only to finally realize that something was really off. I felt dizzy and weak like I do when I'm dehydrated (I live in Phoenix, lots of experience with serious dehydration). But, I have been drinking plenty, so I figured maybe it was the food.

This week I have been lower in calories than ever before, twice not even breaking 800. So, I quit working out (deciding it's bad to push a worsening situation), and wandered into the kitchen. I looked around and let myself actually feel "Am I actually hungry? If I am, what for?" Based on this, I made a huge plate of spaghetti and started wolfing it down. And man was I ever hungry!

I managed to stop before I became stuffed, but am more full than I have been in a long time. I am proud - I left some on the plate, and even with my 800 calorie spaghetti feast, I'm under 1800 for the day. I know 1800 is a lot, but it's less than half of what a splurge would have been pre-new-lifestyle.

I feel a lot better physically now that I've eaten. I guess the moral of the story for me is to make sure I get at least 1200 calories.

Yes honey, learn from this!! Exercising when you haven't got any fuel in you to burn off can be positively dangerous. Take care and stop if you feel faint again on the machines. And don't go on a completely empty stomach!! Try having a small banana half an hour or so before you go.

~Journal 10/7/06~

The scale is up a little - to be expected after consuming so much pasta. But hey, I bet a lot of it is the actual weight of the pasta. My moving average is still down, so woohoo!

I am heading off to play D&D which can be a tragic diet event. I'm bringing my own food tonight to help me forego the customary mt. dew & cheetos.

I'm struggling to remember that weight loss isn't just a day thing, it's a constant lifestyle change.

I usually don't go the gym on Saturdays so I feel like I get a day off, but I go for a horseback riding lesson and that hour is as much strength training as I need for a week!

Careful that you don't eat too few calories - that's very dangerous!! What are your target calories for your age and height? You may be under estimating what you should consume, possibly putting your body into starvation mode - which will make it absorb EVERY calorie you put in there.

Hope your D&D night went well!! :D:D

Hello bean,
Congrats on hitting the gym!! I have a fear of the gym
even though almost 1/2 my family goes to 1.I am afraid of the looks
and how to use the machines! Your doing gr8, keep up the good work!

My calorie goals are 1270 to 1620. I've just been figuring lately that if I can make it under occasionally, it might balance out the days I go a little over :)

I live with a roommate, and she is trying to lose weight as well. She just started last week, where I am in my 5th week now. My game got canceled tonight (dang), so she and I went to the park to fly a kite and play frisbee. It's finally starting to cool off here (the high was only 89!) so the park was plagues by droves.

Question for ya'll: What about water? Half the articles I read say "absolutely, 8 cups a day!" and the other half say "bull honkey, you can really survive on much less than that!" I almost exclusivly drink diet soda. Now, I thought I'd try the water thing out, just to see how it went, and I was in the bathroom almost every 15 minutes! Do you get used to this?! I can't imagine this being very practical!

Lol.. I can't comment on the water thing b/c I'm the same way.
I'm just not a big drinker. I've tryed drinking the amount of water people say you should, and I'm in the bathroom ALL the time. *shrugs*
I guess maybe your body would get used to it though if you kept at it.

I think I'm going to have to limit the water thing to what feels natural.

My roommate and I are going to her gym tomorrow. Yoga class, here we come! I'm going with her because she has a free pass and she feels awkward about going for the first time.

We worked out tonight at the apartment gym (her first time). Right in the middle of our work out it started to rain so the pool party of svelte 20 somethings come trooping in to wait it out in their bikinis and towels. Talk about bad timing.

I've started using sparkpeople instead of fitday. I like that name brand foods are already listed, but I'm not too fond of the system of pop-ups. Oh well, everything's a trade off.

ooo.. I've always wanted to try yoga but I'm just too embarassed right now (big botty in the downward dog, no good can come of it..lol) Yikes about the svelte 20 somethings, I spent the day with a svelte 16 year old... I feel for ya!

And the water thing takes some time to get used to, my bladder is still in shock. But it does get better, just ease yourself into it.

The only reason I have the guts to try is that I did it a couple years ago in just about the same condition I am now. It really was a good workout, and it also helped me get over thinking everybody was always staring at me. Sometimes I can't do the positions though, and that gets kind of weird. Ain't no way you can do Plow if you have any sort of gut. (Yoga: Plow - United States)

wow... I looked and looked and her phone number just isn't listed lol....

just kidding.... I think I have way to many pins and levers in my back to consider such a thing.......

Dagnabbit! I just couldn't resist stepping on the scale after having done so well all weekend, and back up to 203.8. It's always up at night, so i don't know why I insist on doing this to myself - but at 203.8 I probably won't drop near as far as I would like in water weight by morning. Here's hopin!

Lol.. you sound like me! I've been... sorta good this week *sssshhhh* about weighing myself, but I just can't help but peek when I shouldn't :p heh
I'm getting over weighing myself alot though. Last week.. was just... crazy. I'd get on the scale after every single bathroom break. heh

I wish I could do yoga, but dangit I'm as flexible as a piece of wood. I can bend a little bit but too much and I'd break :p hehe
That's one thing I really need to work on!

But anywho... Keep it up! WOO!

Just got back from the gym! It went well, and it's rather affordable. Now I have to wrestle with my inner being about how much a few extra machines and classes are worth over my free apartment gym.

Oh yah, and OMGWTFYOGA?!? I was painfully reminded today that I can't lean forward at all if my legs are stretched out.
