20to10 - a journey begins with a single step.

I have to tell you all something. I can't even blame my period because I don't get them but you are all so much a part of what keeps me going in this lifestyle change. Even tho my husband is supportive and my friends encourage me I don't think they get it because they're not doing it and most don't need to!

Just want to say thank you thank you thank you.

MJB: I'm going to Philadelphia. Very far from Cali but if I win the Lotto I'll be straight over!

Good news: went to GP and he did my BP and HR and they were the same each of the three times. 100/80 and pulse 80 so all normal. What a relief!

Worked out today 30 min cardio and 15 min abs blast class as well as a splash about in the pool. Food is clean. Mood is average!

I hope that 5mos is enough to make some serious dent in my fat and boost in my fitness!!

I have family in Philly, my Italian side.

It's an interesting city! Famous for their Philly cheese steak sandwiches drizzled with cheese wizz and cheese fries. LOL Of course I had to try that when I was there a few years back.

You are on the other side of the US!! To bad!!

YAY! I'm glad your doctor checked your BP and it was normal!

I agree with you, I think being on here and getting support really helps get me through this whole process! I don't have anyone here doing this with me either. My husband is starting to make changes, but I'm doing things on a bigger scale (more exercise in particular). So I'm glad I have everyone here too :)

Hey hun,

Yeah, don't worry about the BP. I went for a gym induction and my BP was fine because I'd walked there. Much skinnier people who had ran there all had very high BP and the staff member just said she would retest them after we'd been shown around.

Also don't worry about the numbers, don't let them depress you. In fact, let them motivate you. The more measurements you have, the better you can monitor as they go down. I was 45% body fat on Jan 1st. Am now 38%. Will keep trying and I know that you can do it too.

Big hugs!!!

Thanks so much for the encouragements whiskeytangofox! I see you've joined TBL challenge (Go Brown Team!)!

It's hard not to get disheartened when I've been working so hard but I've managed. I'm not able to get to the gym this weekend (or yesterday, Friday) because my husband's out of town so I'll have to work out at home. I'm planning on doing 45 min of the torturous TurboJam even if I miss 50% of the steps, I'm still going to do it! If I'm feeling ambitious, I might even do the AbsJam!

I'm thinking of getting a pedometer and body fat monitor (at Argos) but I think a lot of the exercise I do won't be picked up on it. I mostly do that ski stair climber and the recumbent bike at the gym. I do kettlebells, too, and neither of them will show up on a pedometer!

Anyway, hope everyone has a great weekend and my goal is to do 2 hrs of exercise this weekend!

Oh, I meant to say, I've found great success in getting fibre through using Linwood's Milled Flaxseed (got it at Evergreen Health Foods store). It's a bit high in calories at 153cals/30g serving and high in fat 14g fat/30g serving but the protein level is 7g and the fibre grams are the key to keeping things 'moving along' well at 9g of fibre. I'm aiming for 30g of fibre per day as a minimum so this is great to get that amount of it out of the way. I have half the 30g it in my porridge or Muesli (Hi8 Flahavan's) in the morning and the other half in my yogurt. It's kind of an icky taste but it's not overly bad.

I'll report on how well it has worked in helping me to lose fat! Also taking 3200mg of Vitamin D3, omega fish oil tabs, a multivitamin with probiotics, Caltrex (that's calcium and Vitamin D3, I counted this amount of Vitamin D3 in the total amount of Vitamin D3 I'm taking) and Vitamin C tablets.

Anyone else find anything in terms of vitamins or supplements that's helpful?

Wow, you are one brave woman for having your gym do all those tests on you. When I was like 12 the pharmacy across the street from us had a scale that measured your height, weight and ideal weigh. I was already a little bit chubby back then I guess but I was eager to see, so I took some of my pocket money and did it. Probably my first ever frustration with weight, it told me I should lose like 6 kg. I was 12 for heaven's sake (I guess the machine couldn't know that though I think it did ask), 6 kg sounded like a lot to me back then. Since then I am weary to have people weigh me and only ever allow it in my GYN office once a year.

Personally I am "against" multivitamins, unless you need them (for example if you have osteopenia, the beginning of osteoporosis, getting extra calcium is ok, or if you are anaemic extra iron). Most of those pills give you amounts of vitamins that are ridiculous (my boyfriend took one that had 700% your daily vit C amount) and most of it will be excreted as your body does not use it. Some vitamins in excess are even dangerous! Not th ones in commercial vit-pills of course, but I just thought I'd throw that in for you to see that vitamins are not all harmless.
If you are eating balanced full meals, you don't need additional vitamins, your body is perfectly able to extract what it needs from your food. Of course if you want to take them, most probably nothing will happen and if you feel they make you stronger or feel better, then that is a real effect as well (even if it is just in the non measurable "feeling" scale). For your health, eating good balanced healthy meals is the important thing, so as long as you are doing that take whatever vitamins you want.

Have a great weekend, Camy

Thanks for your advice, Camy and support! It's very helpful and I think I'm going to stick to vitamins at the moment as I am lacking in some areas due to health problems (particularly Vit D3 and Calcium!)

I'm doing the 200 sit up (they mean crunches) challenge and today I'm going to do the test to see where I fall. It's a six week program! I'm still going to try to do the bum lifts I was doing for the lower abs which I definitely think works.

So, today's program is:

--45 min TurboJam Cardio Party (will stick to the whole thing even if I can't do all the moves in sync yet. I'm finally able to actually jump rope between!)

--3 sets of 15reps of bum lifts

--As many crunches as I can do for the initial test for the 200 sit up challenge.

I really want to do my measurements but J is away so I'll have to do it tomorrow! Can't wait to see if I've made any progress since last time!

Yesterday was my cheat day per month and I had an absolute feast of Persian food and there are no leftovers as it was a house party!
Can't wait to get started today!!

FITNESS!!

Annoying, the iphone app starts everyone off on a standard number and doesn't take into consideration age so it's not in sync with this! Dumb!

I was also surprised to see your age! And to see that you removed your pictures from the other thread... don't be ashamed to show yourself. You are making huge changes and how will you see them if you refuse to look at yourself (and let others see you!).

Sit ups are a great way of exercising. I do 2 to 3 times a week probably around 150 in one of my classes, we do them as warm ups and some of them are killer. The common ones I could do for a long time, but oblique's are hard. Hardest I find them when in split (legs straight up in the air and as far apart as possible onto the sides, if possible in a full split) or with both legs up in the air straight (and the absolute hell on earth is trying to do them with the legs at a 45 º angle, just having the legs there is hard enough but then also trying to sit up, ugh! Torture!).
I am sure you will get to higher numbers really fast, our bodies adapt in amazing ways!

Have a fantastic start to your week, Camy

That inches loss is absolutely amazing! Well done on your progress, you really are doing so well.

I know what you mean about having 'goals' and missing them. Before I started I just plugged in some very unrealistic numbers assuming I would lose 4, 5 pounds a week and now I am falling short (not by that much overall - 186.4 this week instead of 185) but would rather do it at a pace I'm happy with and is sustainable and healthy than fit some arbitrary deadline! As long as you are happy, that is all that matters!

Fox :)

Thanks so much for saying I look younger than I am. I think it's the fact that the fat is spreading out all the wrinkles. One minor downside to losing weight will be more wrinkles! Haha!

It's very hard when you have a number in your head and it's just not happening. I had hoped to be under 90kg this week (tomorrow) for the BL weigh in. Even being 89.9kg would've been a victory, but alas, it's not to be! Well, maybe but didn't do a last chance workout today tho did a my ab work.

Maybe if I'm feeling less nauseous tomorrow morning I'll do a bit of TurboJam to get the sweat pumping.

Thanks to everyone for stopping by!

Down a measly .1kg/.22lbs. Darnit! I really hoped that something would happen and I'd be under 90kg. Ah well...

On a different note, I am still home sick in bed. Bleh. I'm just ...... meh.

I know what you mean about your body being programmed to lose on a weds, not a tues. I check my weight on a friday and I've lost every single week this year, yet if I weigh in on a tues, this isn't necessarily the case. I've been really lucky so far - last time I lost a significant amount of weight, I used to plateau for three weeks at a time. However I think it helps that I eat more these days. I know that sounds odd, but going too low seems to work against me.

Hope you feel better soon, we're up against some stiff competition for next week's biggest loser...

I wouldn't mind looking like that girl in that video either! I get so jealous seeing people that look that good. I think to myself, my calf wouldn't fit into the thighs of her pants! ARG! lol... I hope one day to be able to be thin... one day! LOL
