20to10 - a journey begins with a single step.

Good luck to you, too, Risty!! It's going to take us some time but we'll get there. I'm 41, had a hysterectomy and the more I read about Vitamin D deficiency, I think I might have it, so I'm going to start taking 2 400ul tablets twich a day for a total of 1600ul/day, plus the max dose of calcium. I also need a good multivitamin, too!

I don't what my issue is though! I mean, I could add some cardio into it but my workouts are minimim an hour so even if it's weights it still gets your heart rate up. Maybe I should just play some DDR along with my dvd's. It's really fun and it gets you moving.

I'm happy for you with your 2.2 lb loss. Mine was only 0.8 lbs.... poopy!

Well done with the loss, any loss is good even if it is sometimes not a big as we would like :)

I've been MIA for the last few days catching up on paperwork and doing okay. I'm still eating clean and am now finished with the trainer. I hadn't intended on staying with him for three weeks (2x week) but I did. Instead, I joined a nice new gym in a nice hotel and I started yesterday. I just did some light swimming in the pool there. It's a hydrotherapy pool so just splashed around and stretched. I have my first training with a trainer there on Wednesday of next week but I'm going today to do cardio and kettlebells and maybe some light weights.

I'm taking the kids to swim there afterwards and then into town to do some shopping and just enjoy the sunshine even though it's FREEZING!

No weight loss on the scale which is annoying but what can you do. It's really really going slowly this time and I'm not sure why! How annoying!

Good news: I will be getting back about €1800+ in back payments of child benefit (all mothers get a payment monthly to help with the cost of children. I have two kids and get €300/month. They haven't paid me since August so I'm due six months! Woo!!)

Bad news: I had a lot of school work to do this week (I'm a primary teacher) and I did none of it because I was focusing on catching up on paperwork, doing taxes, making my medical insurance claim for reimbursement, etc... So, this weekend think of me with piles of copies (notebooks), workbooks and planning templates up to my eyeballs! Wah! I'm still going to go to the gym at least Saturday or Sunday just to keep up the pattern and give myself a break from icky school work!

Hope you're all doing well!

God you sound so busy but keeping on top of it and still eating healthy and exercising so well done! It can be so difficult when life gets in the way. I know it's bad - but use some of that child benefit money to buy yourself something nice as you lose weight!

And congrats on the loss. 2.2lb is actually brilliant. The main thing I think is to be moving in the right direction, some weeks higher and some weeks lower but a steady loss.

Know what you mean about the sweating - back on 30 Day Shred and I haven't sweated so hard in years! The weight isn't coming off any faster but my body looks better for it.

Thanks, whiskey! Wow, the 30 day shred sounds hard. I've just joined the gym so I'm going to focus on that for a while, mostly cardio as I realise repeatedly how very poor in cardio I really am!

I will work my way up minute by minute on the bike, elliptical and rowing machine and hopefully will one day make it to do a video like 30 day shred of p90x!

It's a long way off. I really need to shed a lot of the fat first!

Off to the gym now! Yay!

Yeah you do sound very very busy but you handle it way better than I would that's for sure!

I have the 30 day shred too but I haven't done it since I started my P90X. I wonder how I'll do on it now after doing P90X because let me tell you P90X is hard as hell. So it would be neat to see the difference in my fitness level from before to now.

I do love the 30 day shred though, it's a really good workout in a shorter amount of time so you can fit it in no matter what.

You're so committed Risty. I'm actually physically not able to do stuff like P90X or whatever because...

a. I'm very unfit cardio and strength
b. If I were to do it at home, I'd stop after 10min and go, sure, that's enough for today!
c. I have to be very careful about different muscles and bones and I'm afraid I'd fall and hurt myself.
d. I'm so so uncoordinated!

:)

I did a few things to myself that are very sore.

My right toe, when it gets very cold feels very stiff and sore. I'm pretty sure there's beginning arthritis in it and it's worse when I do exercises that press on the ball of my foot.

I tried those machines in the gym where you open and close your legs. One is where you pull the legs in the other is where you push the legs out. I'm not sure which of the machines did it, but I have seriously seriously pulled both sides of muscles in my inner thighs, high up near my lady bits. It's so sore! OUCH!!

the inner thigh is you hip adductors and Gracilis the muscles were worked by bringing your legs together, next time your muscles should be able to cope a little better. It may be a good idea to include your aductors in your stretching routine (you are remembering to stretch at the end ?) Seated Groin Stretch

I definitely know that the exercise you described is whats wrong because it's the stretch you showed that hits the spot. It's still very sore tho!!!

Back working out tomoro!!

Heh, those are some of the exact reasons why I do it! I'm really unfit and so I want to do it to help improve my fitness. Some of those DVD's I have to modify a lot of the exercises and then over time I'll be able to do the DVD as it was meant to be done! For example, the dvd's with a lot of push ups (there are 2 of them) I have to do all the pushups from my knees. The ones that you can't do from the knees I just do regular knee pushups until the time where I can build my strength and do regular pushups and then eventually build up to those hard ones they do!

It's true though, that series is really really hard and I'm not really fit enough for it, but I do what I can and one day I'll be fit enough to do it all!

I know what you mean about being at home and being able to quit early really easily. However, the good thing about me is I'm stubborn! Sure it may be hard to get me started and get that dvd in the player to begin with, but once it's in I'm too stubborn and determined to finished it that I always finish it! lol I have this thing where I like to prove to myself that I can do things, so that helps me get through it.

OH I know exactly what you are saying, I have pulled my groin area too on those machines, they seem so easy when you are doing them, then the next day it's owie time!!

Hope it heals quick, that's a sore area to be bruised and tore up. Hope yor toe heals quick too. You seem to young to be getting arthritis. I've read that arthritis can be cured with a good detox.

I am with you! I hate groin pain... I am semi-expected to be able to fully split (sideways not a front split I don't think I will ever be able to do front splits unfortnately) by mid june. Every time I try to stretch those muscles to be you know a mm closer to goal the pain just cripples me (for about a minute but that is long enough for me to realize that splitting is certainly overrated).

By the way today I did a great class, 100 minutes straight and of those I jumped (literally on the spot and in different ballet jumps) for over 20 minutes. I did most exercises twice instead of just once like everyone else did and was drenched in sweat. I was fired up and could have gone on forever... but earlier today I was in horrible pain going up the stairs to my 4rth floor apartement (the lift had broken). I don't know why some exercise does not make me tired like that and just every day things do...
so what I wanted to say is that, even if you feel you are unfit certain sports (especially those you enjoy) will feel a lot less strenous than some easy peasy things. So don't stop yourself from doing an exercise you might like just because running to the bus is a struggle!

You are doing a great job, don't get discouraged. Camy

Ooooh, pulling groin muscles SUCCKKKKKS. I only did that ONCE, but I was very careful to start at a lower weight after that, lol. But I do like those machines- I hope one day to have some shapely buns :D

Thanks Jess, Camy and MJB!

I had a bad thing happen today. Your feedback would be welcome!

I went to the gym for my intro visit where they measure you up and such. It did not go well. First of all, my gym is on three floors and because the trainer was late, I ran up three flights of stairs to get to the consultation room.

I sat there and very soon after, she took my BP and resting heart rate. The results were shocking to say the least...

BP: 148/95!!! (I had a BP test done at the GP recently and it wasn't nearly that high!)
Resting heart rate: 104

Now, in fairness, I had sat down after running (because she was running late) up the stairs and about 2min later she took my BP and resting heart rate. I said I'd visit the GP and get him to test it too but it did seem strange that she didn't realise it wasn't a resting heart rate. She is young so maybe that's why?

Then, onto the horrible results of the Body Composition Analyzer! ( dah dah daaahh...menacing prelude)

Body Type: Standard
Gender: Female (the only good news)
Age: 41 (also knew that going in)
Height: 168cm (I measured at the GP at 170cm and I like that one more!)
Clothes Weight: 0.1kg (how she knew that I don't know)

Weight: 91.1kg (this was after yesterday's morning weigh in of 90.8kg so not too bad as the test was in this afternoon)
Fat%: 47.9%
Fat Mass: 43.6kg
FFM: 47.5kg (is this fat-free mass?)
Muscle Mass: 45.1kg (I think she said this wasn't too bad)
TBW: (water) 34.3kg (She said she though I might be retaining water)
TBW %: 37.7%
Bone Mass: 2.4kg
BMR: 1504kcal

Metabolic Age: 56 (how depressing, nearly cried there in her office)
Visceral Fat Rate: 10

BMI: 32.3

Ideal Body Weight: 62.1kg
Degree of Obesity: 46.7%

Did you tell her that you just ran up the stairs? If so, she should have waited a little longer. Or taken the BP after doing all those measurements. You could always ask her to just redo the BP again at resting and see what she says. But if you've already had it done at the doctor's recently and it wasn't that high then I wouldn't worry too much. If it's been a little bit of time, then just go to the gym and ask and if they won't just go to a grocery store that has a BP machine in it and do it yourself! That way it'll put your mind at ease.

Thanks Risty. I was very worried at the time but I'm a bit more relaxed. Mostly, I'm just sickened to see how unhealthy I was (apart from the BP and Heart Rate) and that even though I've worked hard, it seems to be such slow progress. The metabolic rate freaked me out even more!

Here's a few new tickers:

Yay! Under 200lbs this morning at 199.3lbs!

Hey there!! I don't blame you for feeling angst over those results, that is so cool you did that though, just like the contestants on the BL show!!

I agree with Risty, have her retest your heart rate. It takes more than 2 minutes for your resting heart rate to decrease I would think?? I am no expert tho.

If anything tho, have it retested for your peace of mind. Having high blood pressure is dangerous!

Just know that you are doing something about it and have been losing weight and working out. All that will help.

I am surely worse off then you are! Oh boy!

I asked in the BL thread, but I don't know that you saw it. What part of the US are you going to be in when you come? I was hoping California so I can meet you! It's a big country tho, so not sure where you are ending up.

5 months is plenty of time to drop the weight and be looking fit and fabulous!

Use those test results as motivation. You can do it and turn that ship around!
