12packAbs Diary

So I had some oatmeal and a protein shake before karate class last night....I'm trying to increase my protein consumption and to try and have some with every meal & snack...suffice it to say i had a wee bit of a gas problem into the evening

We had a good class last night...warm up was good and the rest of the class was low-intensity stuff.

I had grandiose plans when I got home to have a nice big spinach salad....after I drank a recovery shake I grabed the spinach and noticed some leftovers in the fridge...so I had about a third of a sausage and about a cup and a half of pasta...then a few pieces of chocolate (at least is was dark choloclate)...ah well...

My body is still a little sore from the weekend and Monday...so i need to stretch tonight. I'm hoping to start some weight training tonight as well. I'm feeling sleepy today, so hopefully I get a second wind and have a good workout tonight. I'm trying to reduce my coffee consumption...recently it wasn't uncommon for me to have 8-10 cups a day...at least its fairly weak coffee, not the strong stuff. Now I'm getting down to 3-4 a day, which is a much better number.

Breakfast: Blueberry oatmeal (see the recipes section for this yummy recipe)
Morning snack: Banana & a protein shake
Lunch: Tuna on a whole wheat wrap, large baby spinach salad with olive/flax oil & balsamic vinegar
Afternoon snack: Cottage cheese, baby carrots and an apple

I weighed myself this morning after not doing so for a couple of weeks and I'm down 3lbs! Woohoo! Weighed in at 211 this morning.

I ate well yesterday, except for some chocolate after dinner last night. And I was still sore so I took last night as a rest night. Back to karate tonight and tomorrow.

Reheated the blueberry oatmeal for breakfast this morning and it was great! Highly recommend this recipe (I think i posted it in the nutrition section rather than the recipe section...oops).

12pack...
just checking up on ya. Chocolate is a lot better than a half a pizza before bed...

The girlfriend and I are toying with the idea of joining Karate... thing is living in a small town you gotta sign up at the beginning classes which don't start til like september.

Well, I've done that many times too! Fortunately for the most part, I've been good lately.

Karate can be amazing...but unfortunately there are many, many McDojo's that teach crap. Where I live it is overrun by commercial, fluffy dojos that don't really teach a whole lot. But it depends on what you want to get out of it. If you want to use it for fitness, then sport karate may be fine for you. Make sure you try out a class or two and see what credentials the instructor has. And do some reasearch as well. I know of a school that is run by a guy that only (legitimately) has a brown belt, but claims to be a 5th dan under a system that surprisingly has never heard of him. Good luck though!

Protein

Hi 12packabs :D Thanks again for the protein advice. I'm going to try adding some more starting today! Although reading your diary from yesterday - I am a little concerned about combining fiber AND protein!
Have a great weekend! Congrats on the 3lbs too!
Rachie :)

Morning M...how's the patient today? ;)

Rachie - Thanks! I spent a few months at the exact same weight, so it's nice to have a little progress. With the...err...problem...I'm not sure yet if it's the protein shakes, the increased protein or the protein and fibre. Back when I was living in the gym I tried increasing my protein and I had the same problem...I'm not sure why yet, or how to avoid it, but I'll look into it :)

Dinner last night:
Pork terderloin & 1/2 cup of basmati rice (plus a little gravy...just water added to the pan to deglaze and a little white flour) and a large salad consisting of baby spinach, broccoli and red peppers with olive/flax oil & balsamic vinegar.
And a few pieces of chocolate for dessert. :)

Food Today so far:
Breakfast: Blueberry oatmeal (has some protein powder in it)
Snack: Banana and a protein shake (1/2 scoop)
Lunch: Tuna & alfalfa sprouts on a whole wheat wrap and a large baby spinach salad with olive/flax oil & balsamic vinegar

Planned afternoon snack #1: Baby carrots and a protein shake (1/2 scoop)
Planned afternoon snack #2: Turkey & alfalfa sprouts on a whole wheat wrap and an apple

I'm feeling pretty good today....to my amazement I've only had ONE coffee...and it's 2pm...usually I'll have 4-6 by now. I also had one green tea as well, and as always, lots of water.

Oh yeah...and I also took the stairs instead of the elevator...twice today...7 floors and 108 steps (I was curious, so I counted)...every little bit helps.

start training for next year's in Chicago :D (the empire state building in new york does the same thing
- just a few more steps and you'll reach the top :D

Sadly...the full and half climb are sold out :(

Actually I hate stairs! I'm always out of breath no matter how good shape I get in...but thanks for the info!

my gym has a team who will be doing it - the gym owner who for reasons I can't explain knowsm y name and asked me last night if i wanted to do it (he needs team members :D i think i'd have a coronary by the 5th floor :D

Weekend summary

Friday night was a great workout...only about an hour, but good. I did some burpies just for spite, some light sparring and them some grappling. I was hungry afterwards, so I got a grilled chicken sandwich. Unfortunately, I finished off the evening with 3 pints of my favourite beverage.

Saturday
I did about 4hrs of karate, then did some manual labour in the early evening to help someone move.

Breakfast: Scrambed eggs (1 whole egg, 1 cup egg whites, 1/2 cup chopped broccoli) and an orange
Snack between karate classes: Protein shake with blueberries
Snack after karate classes: Protein shake with blueberries
Meal: Pumpernickel bagel with cream cheese, turkey sausage
Apres-moving meal: 2 beers and 5 slices of pizza

Sunday:
Basically a rest day...I've enjoyed taking it easy on the last couple of Sundays, although I want to go to a grappling club on Sundays cause I'm a glutton for punishment.

Breakfast: Scrambed eggs (1 whole egg, 1 cup egg whites, 1/2 cup chopped broccoli, 1/2 cup of red peppers), and about a 1/4 of an apple
Lunch: Mushroom soup, turkey sausage on a bun
Dinner: Jambalaya, pulled pork with two dinner rolls and some coleslaw...oh yeah and two beers..

So in summary....between Friday and Sunday I had 3 pints and 4 bottles of beer...not quite cutting back, but it could have been worse...

Hoping for a great week this week:D

So far today:
Breakfast: Blueberry oatmeal with protein powder
Snack: Protein shake (1/2 scoop), 1/3 cup of raw almonds, banana

You know, if you're drinking Guiness, you can call it a meal.
:D

Well, Kilkenny is brewed by Guiness....does that count? The other beers were just regular brews...

I've come to terms with the fact that I'm a beer snob....and a coffee snob....just don't like the cheap stuff

mmm Kilkenny is great - not really as chewable as Guinness though M2M :)
You all are making me crave a pint and it's only 11.13am and I am at work! I will pretend my coffee is guinness now ;) lol
