Alligatorob's Diary

Well I binged yesterday, too many cookies and some cake, all homemade from our apricots. Poor excuse, but it's the only one I can think of... Oh well, today is another day.
I can imagine hard to resist homemade treats made with your own apricots! As you say today's another day!

Dialysis is life-saving medicine, no doubt about it. But apparently Some People (TM) try to convince dialysis patients that kidney transplants are dangerous and not actually any better than dialysis.

"Thanks Cate, and I do like fishing, wish I could do more of it. There is fishing nearer to where I live, but I have never gotten interested in trout fishing. I know a lot of people do, and I have done it. But I don't particularly like trout, and they are not very big around here."
Trout is far from my favourite fish, but I would eat it often if someone gave it to us. G has never fished but he loves cooking. I much prefer ocean fish too. Trout fishing is very popular in Tasmania, both fresh bait & fly fishing. I have fish almost always when we eat out.
I would be very relieved not being asked to donate a kidney too!

Today was a good day, back on track and no binge. No gym, but I take weekends off. Feel good tonight.

Thanks Liza, yeah the homemade treats are my excuse anyway... And today was another day, a good day.

Thanks Llama, that was an interesting video. I had not really thought about how big a business dialysis and the kidney thing has become. They said it's 1% of our national budget, half what we spend on education. For reasons I don't understand the government pays 100% of all kidney failure costs, its the only disease we treat that way. One result is lots of folks figuring out how to get some of the money...

I feel the same about trout, don't turn it down, its just not my favorite. I'll bet all kinds of fishing is good in Tasmania.

Today was a good day, ate well and exercised, I feel good tonight. Started a batch of apricot wine this afternoon, fingers crossed, no fermentation yet...
It's good to be back on track, Rob. I love apricots! Has all of the fish you caught been frozen?
Thanks Cate, what I need are longer on track streaks, but today I will take 2 days! The fish I just caught in Florida got eaten, right after catching them I went to my brothers's family reunion, had a 30 person fish fry that was the end of it. And a good time was had by all! I still have lots of Alaska fish in the freezer, so I didn't really need them.
Yay for a no-binge day Rob!
Thanks Liza, two in a row now!

That 30 person fish fry sounds wonderful! I spoke to G's brother today & was talking about our GK's & how much they would love to see them & we think we'll try to organise a family reunion.
It feels good for me to have refocussed my energy again into losing weight. With you it's not binging, with me it's cutting right down on wine. It had become a regular habit again. Not much each day, but usually some. So far, so good 🤞

Today was a good day 3 1/2 hours at the gym, ate well and feel good tonight. I've been slowly building up to it, but now 3+ hours in the gym is beginning to feel like the norm. Apricot wine brewing nicely, lots of fermentation going on.

Thanks Cate, the fish fry was a lot of fun. I think the binge and the wine are probably just different manifestations of the same problem. Strongly desiring more than is good for us, what is the difference. Good for you in taking the wine thing on!

Your mention of apricot wine brought back a memory from my distant past of nicking a small flask of apricot wine from our next door neighbour( :blush5 ) & taking it to my last day of high school & sharing it with a few friends at lunch time. We all had a sip. Our neighbour used to make wine out of just about everything- potato peel, rose petals... I felt so guilty that I only did that once.
Well done on not binging, Rob xo

Today was a mixed day, woke up with a bad stomach so did not go to the gym, Wednesdays are not my biggest gym day anyway. I did start feeling better and got a little exercise, back to it tomorrow. I ate well and feel good tonight.
Apricot wine sounds delicious!
Thanks Liza, and yes it does sound that way, but my wines are rarely delicious, LOL. My goal is at least drinkable, on occasion, in small quantities...

Thanks for the story, reminds me that the only time I have stolen was about the age of 12. I stole some change to buy candy... still feel guilty about that too. Have not tried making wine from potato or rose petals, but did once try honeydew melons. A farmer was giving over ripe ones away at the end of the season... it was awful!
Well done on not binging, Rob xo
Thanks Cate! It feels good, now I need it to last.

Well, I binged yesterday. Not my worst but a binge... on protein bars guess I'll be real healthy. Got good exercise in the gym, and today is another day.
Boo on the upset stomach when eating well! Good to hear you didn't use it as an excuse to binge though.
Thanks, but as you know I need no excuse... ie yesterday.
I think we need to be kinder to ourselves, Rob & give ourselves credit when we don't numb ourselves with whatever it is that is our "thing".
✅ Rob
Thanks Cate, well said!

I like seeing that salmon in there, Rob. Yum! Do you not eat cooked veggies very often? I love grilled fish with veggies.

Today was a better day, pretty good really. I ate well, exercised and feel good tonight. Thinking about distilling the apricot wine, apricot brandy might be good... and be something different.
I don't need excuses either, but I always find them...
LOL!! Yes I agree can always find one.

Do eat cooked veggies sometimes. Had green beans tonight. But not so often as I used to, I guess my habits change a bit.

The salmon was good, very good. I know you can get Salmon from New Zealand, do you have salmon in Tasmania? I'd think you have the right waters for them.
