Alligatorob's Diary

The truth is I stopped eating fruit and veggies and just ate more meat and yogurt.
 Really? Wowsers, Rob!
Today I changed that and had a couple of salads.
Thank goodness for that!

I seem to have missed posting last night. Anyway, yesterday was a good day, ate well, exercised and felt good.
You really are a man of extremes, Rob, to go from kilos of fruit and veg a day to literally none!
Yeah, guess I am guilty of that. If something is worth doing, its probably worth overdoing, my unofficial motto...
Really? Wowsers, Rob!
Thanks Cate, it was a mistake, back on track now.

Haha. That's funny, Rob. A bit like the motto "grow old disgracefully".
This concentrating on what we eat & drink every day gets harder & harder. I did read an interesting article today- https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/health/healthyliving/Nutrition-needs-when-youre-over-65
I think I know what I should & shouldn't consume & if I cut out the things I know I shouldn't eat or drink I would lose weight easily. It's simple, hey? :svengo:

A good day, ate well, exercised and I feel good tonight. Tomorrow I may have a shorter time at the gym, but will try to get an hour or so in. MFP says I ate 1,298 calories and fitbit says I burned 2,394. I think its pretty unlikely I had an actual 1,000+ calorie deficit today. But I think I did have some deficit.
If we were moderate people we wouldn't be here
Well put, we may be a lot of things, but moderate is not one of them, LOL!
A bit like the motto "grow old disgracefully".
I like it, will have to remember that one!

Thanks, I did look at the article and it was helpful. I do alright by their standards, except for the variety thing, my diet is kind of simple and monotonous. Just easier for me that way... Have to think about that one. The variety I'd like to add doesn't seem to be on the list, LOL!

Yep, very right, except maybe for the simple thing.

Yesterday was ok, not bad. Except for some late night peanut butter, which I logged, I ate well and got in some gym exercise. According to MFP I ate 1,668 calories and Fitbit says I burned 2,494.

In posting late I noticed that I have been under reporting the Fitbit burns, I tend to take them at 8 or 9 pm, and so do not get credit for calories burned after that. I can now see the whole days on my phone. Not that it matters, as I have said I don't believe the calorie deficits I have been getting. But tracking things, along with my weight will help better understand what I should be doing. I think anyway.
Simple, just not easy.
Well said, of course not! True of many simple things...
I’m keeping these in my back pocket. Rob, your unofficial motto is my new one.
Hey CB, good to hear from you! Perhaps you are young enough to change a bit more than I can, and learn more moderation. You are quite wise to be trying.

Not a great day, I binged on cookies. The only good thing was that the binge was smaller than it would have been had I not been thinking about my commitment to log things here. Its my first binge in about 6 weeks...

Otherwise the day was not bad, no gym today but I did a lot of yardwork. Not sure what to think about my Fitbit, it gave me 118 brownie points, as many as on my highest gym days, more than most. I don't think I really had a single minute in the "zone"...

Here's the bad news:

I don't consider that a binge. Cookies of that size are really easy to eat. I don't believe 2 cookies is a realistic serving size. They even advertise dipping it into milk. Why would I pour a glass of milk for 2 cookies?

Unfortunately, we have to be strict with these high-caloric foods, but that's no fault of your own.

I'm back, fell off the wagon a bit on Saturday, ate a few more cookies on Sunday but otherwise Sunday and Monday were ok. Guess I stopped posting for a while to contemplate where I am. Or maybe just lazy... Anyway I am back, I know I need to do this.

I wish it had been just 2 cookies it was about 30, 5 packs of 6 each... But thanks for the support.
It sucks, but it happened. And you limited the damage. Getting right back on track is all you can do.
I guess I know that, but having you remind me helps. Guess I will always need a reminder.

Today was a good day, I ate well, exercised a bit and feel good tonight.

Went to my knee doctor today and have decided to get knee replacement surgery, probably in October. My knees have gotten worse, making it harder for me to do things like walk down hill or do deep squats. X-rays look pretty bad. This is probably the result of being overweight for so long, but who knows. Anyway it is what it is.
Sometimes I stop posting because I don't feel like dealing with all the kind and well-meaning comments...
LOL, all the kind comments never bother me, they have been a real help. That's not why, just get lazy sometimes I guess.

And thanks for the reminders.

Glad you are getting the knee surgery. It's going to be so wonderful when you can exercise again without pain!!

It was a good day, went in for a second platelet donation. And I ate well, exercised and feel good tonight. I did have a brownie from the blood donation center, they give away lots of treats after the blood letting...
October is a good time for surgery
I hope so, I am not looking forward to it, I understand the recovery is quite painful for the first couple of weeks but in the end its worth it. Something the doctor pointed out was that I cannot fully extend my legs, he says that is part of the problem and another thing the surgery will fix. Hope so.
I have been struggling with my diet lately. I don't know what's got into me :svengo: It's a bit of this & a bit of that & it all adds up!
I can sure understand that, I suppose we will always struggle. If we can just muddle along trying to do better I think that's all we can do...
Glad you are getting the knee surgery. It's going to be so wonderful when you can exercise again without pain!!
Hey Marsia, good to hear from you! I am hoping to be able to do a lot of things without pain. My knees hurt a lot, and so do my lower legs and sometimes feet. The Dr tells me that is all related to the knees, the nerves to my lower leg and foot pass through the knee and the inflammation. For years I have done my best to ignore it, push through the pain, or find workarounds. Sure hope that is a thing of the past.

Me, too! Everyone I have met who got the knee surgery said what your doctor said, that it is a few weeks of intense discomfort but then is so wonderful afterward. I understand about one part of the body being out of whack makes the others that way, too. I've had lower back problems for years that affect my neck and also my mid and upper back tense up trying to help out the lower back. So glad all of your leg and foot pain will go away once the knee is fixed!!
