Alligatorob's Diary

A good day, ate well, exercised and feel good tonight. I did 3 hours in the gym, earned 97 fitbit brownie points! MFP says I ate 1,512 calories and burned 2,227.
Great job getting right back on track!
Thanks Llama, it wasn't too hard. Today was a relatively binge urge free day. Biggest problem was that at the end of the day my calories were too low, so I had a peanut butter sandwich. Great way to get the calories up.

I don't get brownie points with my Fitbit. I have no idea how it does that. What do you aim for with yours, Rob? Is it set for 10,000 steps? Having to eat a peanut butter sandwich to get your calories up sounds like a good problem to have. Yum.

Be careful with that if you're allergic. I remember visiting a friend whose toddlers loved peanut butter rice cakes for snacks and I got the worst eczema just from the traces their sticky little fingers left around the house.

It was a good day, ate well, exercised and I feel good tonight. MFP says I ate 1,444 calories and fitbit says I burned 2,394 and earned 72 of those mysterious brownie points. Did the late peanut butter and toast thing again.
If that's your biggest problem it is a good day
I am sure you are right, but tonight I was tempted to do without it, but I am trying to keep my calories above 1,200, without peanut butter I would not have done that...

Guess I must be special then! I think it is related to the number of minutes fitbit counts my pulse above some fat burning level, I am just not sure what. I will probably do some research to figure it out. Fitbit sets my goal as 22 brownie points a day. It is also set for 10,000 steps, but I always seem to come up a little short, 8,200 today. Will be working on figuring it out and seeing if I can, or should, adjust goals for it.

Hey CB, I know a lot of people have the peanut allergy, but I don't. It probably is a good way to gain weight, adds calories quite quickly and easily. And if you are not allergic I think it is relatively good for you. Most kids like it.
Be careful with that if you're allergic.
I guess I am lucky, to the best of my knowledge I am allergic to nothing. Unless you count all food, that is my problem...

10,000 steps a day is a nice round number but afaik there's no science to it. It came about decades ago in ads for an early step counter and people have repeated it so often it's become one of those "everybody knows" things. According to a video I watched on it from a source that usually does the proper scientific legwork the benefits really don't get that much bigger after 8,000 steps a day.

Now that you mention it: too much food leaves me super bloated and short of breath, too...

It was not a bad day, I went over the calories I have been eating, but not a whole lot, and I got 3 hours and 5 minutes at the gym. MFP says I ate 1,710 calories and fitbit says I burned 2,339. Fitbit gave me 112 brownie points on the day.

Why would steps be important? Other than as some measure of the amount of exercise you get.

If you mean fat and short of breath I understand!

You’re going through a lot of yogurt but not as much me but the difference is I have it all in one sitting😬

Today was a good day, ate well, exercised (3 hours and a few in the gym), and I feel good tonight. Calories are back down a little, no more peanut butter. MFP says I ate 1,359 calories and fitbit says I burned 2,067. And I earned 25 brownie points.

Did a little research on the fitbit brownie points and found:

Fitbit devices calculate active minutes through metabolic equivalents (METs). This metric, which factors in your body mass, is used to estimate exercise intensity. METs are calculated through a ratio: Rate of energy expended during an activity : rate of energy expended during rest

Fitbit brownie points are still a bit of a mystery to me, I know I can exercise pretty hard sometimes and get no brownie points, and other times a lot. Today for example I spent a little over 3 hours working out, but only got 25 points, Wednesday I spent less time in the gym and got 72 points. I was more tired and I believe as well or better worked out today...

Yeah, I like yogurt and its relatively filling. Don't think we have to worry about eating too much of it.
I think it's just a measure for activity. Most people don't move much unless they're on their feet.
I think you are right, and workouts can often involve lots of good exercise with minimal steps.

You eat healthily & move a lot & enjoy it. You have to be doing well, Rob, regardless of some random Fitbit reading or issuing of "brownie points".

Not a bad day, I ate well but got little exercise. Did not go to the gym, but helped some folks move instead, however the moving did not turn into a lot of work so an easy day. MFP says I ate 1,257 calories and fitbit says I burned 1,802. No brownie points.
True, of course, although most step counters will interpret arm swinging as steps as well
I have not figured out how the fitbit one works, I do get steps when cycling but not so many as my legs move. Probably some kind of body motion.

Thanks Cate, always appreciate your voice of reason. The brownie points are interesting, but I am going to try not to let them effect my routines much.

Yesterday was a good day, I ate well, exercised, and felt good. Up kind of late with company so just logging this am. MFP says I ate 1,404 calories, but it logged the small vodka I had as zero calories, so I probably had something closer to 1,500. Fitbit says I burned 2,388 and gave me 75 brownie points. The vodka was from a local Utah distillery, thought y'all might get a kick out of the label, kind of a reverse polygamy thing.

It was a good day, I ate well, exercised and feel good tonight. MFP says I ate 1,384 calories and fitbit says I burned 1,988. I earned 21 fitbit brownie points.

The brownie points and calories burned on fitbit have me a little confused. I spent a few more minutes in the gym today, and got more tired than yesterday but seemed to have earned fewer brownie points and burned fewer calories, not sure that makes sense. One difference is today fitbit says my resting heart rate is 62, yesterday it was 67. Maybe that has something to do with it?? Oh well, doesn't really matter I am exercising plenty and am in a calorie deficit, that's really all that matters.
Could've called it five co... roosters.
LOL! Shows how your mind must work Llama, I had not really made the connection, until your post... Naive I guess.
when) you come to Tassie I would love that empty bottle for our bar!
Absolutely, I'll save you one!
