Cate's Diary

Thanks, Amy. It was a really nice surprise.

Something that put a dampener on my day was G agreeing to be the secretary/treasurer at the AGM & us coming home with our little car packed to the rafters with boxes of stuff. I am so annoyed with him. I'm not going to help him. He has volunteered without any idea of how to operate a computer. He has enough trouble texting. Technology & G are not very compatible. He is going to call into the online centre today & see about doing a course, he says. This will be interesting to say the least. He knows how crabby I am about this. Actually he doesn't realise just how crabby I am, which may be a good thing. He's calling in to see the ex-secretary today to pick up something. When I asked him if he's picking up a computer he said "No. I think it's a stick or something." This could get interesting.

I aim to lose at least another kg in March & another kg each month & if I do that I will be back down to my happy weight by the end of the year. Today is a fast day (500 cals). I have a large celery soup made up & had a bowl for breakfast. I had added chilli to it & wish I hadn't. I'll remember that next time. I prefer plain food on FDs.

At least you know the next time no chili! Well done on doing another 500 cal day! They are so hard!! Such willpower required!! Hope you have a fabulous week ahead! :)

Thanks, Kate. Today could be too hard after my golf yesterday. G is making a Worcestershire sauce & the smell is driving me crazy. It smells delicious! :svengo: I hope you have a great week too :)

Is the weather pleasant enough that you can get out of the house and away from the sharp tantalising aromas of the sauce? It wouldn't really be good to eat right now anyway, I expect. But it's interesting how those sharp aromas spark the taste-buds - some ancestral food or other, I expect.
When I asked him if he's picking up a computer he said "No. I think it's a stick or something." This could get interesting.
:smilielol5: I really really get the touch of crabby-feeling in the household, by the way. Best wishes for the term of his appointment to go well and smoothly.

It hasn't been a nice day at all here, Amy. I busied myself with housework away from the kitchen & had lunch at 12. The sauce is bottled now & I'm ok. I'll have the soup I was going to have for dinner instead of lunch, seeing I had my main course at lunch-time. If I go over a little today it won't be the end of the world.
Haha. Thanks for the best wishes re G's term. I just looked at the website & our home address & email address are both on there. I just emailed the guy who does the website & provided him with a disposable email address. :svengo:

we 3 women came in 1st, 2nd & 3rd out of everyone. I am very happy about that. I am absolutely chuffed!
Yay! That's wonderful!

That must be tough to have wonderful food aromas around while you are on a fast day!

oh dear-- hopefully it'll end up to be a good learning experience for him and not something you'll end up feeling burdened with

Not the best start I guess! Hope it gets better for you!

The stick comment made me chuckle. Stay strong and let him learn new things insteadof jumping in to help! Having your private address published on the club's website is SO not ok though

Chili is not a bad idea, if you can tolerate it. I find that pepper (capsaicin or capsicum) is a good appetite suppressant. And I have found there is a scientific basis (see Effects of red pepper on appetite and energy intake. - PubMed - NCBI for example). I have always liked spicy foods, but since going on this diet I eat a lot more pepper sauces. My favorites are Tabasco and Crystal Hot Sauce. I buy them by the gallon. Not sure what brands you might have. I grew up eating Louisiana food which is highly spiced so I probably have more tolerance than you. Both Tabasco and Crystal are old Louisiana products.

I agree putting your addresses on a public website without your permission is not cool. Hope you get it fixed.

Thanks, Liza. My day got better, but I was cranky with G & I won't be helping him. I had made it plain before he volunteered that if he did he would be doing it on his own.
Thanks, LaMa. When he was given the USB he handed it to me. Wrong. There is so much stuff that has to be stored somewhere & it will have to go under our snooker table. I rearranged & told him that's his naughty corner. I think I'll set up my old laptop for him to use. He got another message of congratulations this morning from one of his golfing buddies & I laughed & said: "why would you congratulate someone for being stupid?" Whoops!
Obviously I am still very crabby with him. He's going to have to learn to use a computer quickly.
Hi, Rob. I can tolerate chilli quite well, but can't eat capsicums or bell peppers, as you call them, at all. I just seem to only want blander food on the 500 cal days.
I was very tired yesterday after the big day on Sunday & then doing a fast. It's maybe a good idea to have a day after a golfing day before I do another, but it's not easy juggling those days. I'll maybe just eat differently on golf days. Any helpful suggestions, welcome.

Cate I am really sorry because I know you are annoyed with him but I had to have a chuckle to myself about G . A stick is too funny . What did he expect you to do with it?
See you already getting involved making him a space and setting up a laptop . Beware you don’t do much else .
Hope your days become easier and I like the kg a month idea .

Hi, Petal. I can see the funny side too, but I am going to make him do this himself. Making the space for him was much better than having the stuff all around the snooker room. That would make me even crankier! I haven't done anything about the laptop yet. It's mainly that I don't want him using mine.
A kilo a month would be nice. I may have got on the scales this morning & seen a big spike. I'm pretending I didn't. Once again, I felt SO much lighter, but had a very rough night's sleep & also think I'm retaining fluid from Sunday's big golf day.

Thank you, Rob. It has never happened before in any of these championships, but the woman who one is the one who gave me her "old" clubs & she said it hasn't happened in any comps she has played in. It was fun. I think the woman who came 2nd didn't seem to take a lot of joy from it, but I sure did. If you don't enjoy things like that, it could be a very sorry life.
On another note, but slightly related G has asked me to teach him how to use the computer. :svengo: I might take my old laptop into the computer place I bought this one from & get them to tidy it up & then I will try to teach him how to email. That should be enough. How hard can it be? :smilielol5::argue: :boxing:

It's funny how some people who didn't grow up with computers got onto it and learned it, and others just seemed to ignore them and didn't get into it at all. It's good he's ready to learn, but i hope this whole situation won't be too exasperating for you. Maybe you can do good exchanges like he cooks you something extra special in exchange for a lesson?

That would make sense about the fluid retention. It's totally got to be water since you're not eating more.

email is a start, anyway. (And by the way, yes, definitely, about the dedicated email for the golfclubbery!

A kilo a month would be very good indeed (ie from my perspective - I wouldn't presume to say what's "good" for anyone else!).
The scales lie, sometimes - at least, I'm sure jockey's scales and boxing champions' scales are accurate to the last milligram, but household scales... not so much! Lovely that you're feeling lighter - you can probably trust your body to be telling you the truth!

Liza- It is funny. Neither of us grew up with either mobile phones or computers. I love using the computer especially, but G uses his phone under sufferance & only briefly used a computer in his last job, but never really learned. He has just never been interested. He cooks me something special almost every day so I get a good deal. Mainly this is all about him volunteering to do something I was dead set against. He's going through all the paperwork now trying to sort it all out.
Amy- I think learning email would be a good start, but I think actually having his own computer would be a good idea. My old one isn't very good. It's so slow! An iPad wouldn't be a bad idea. That could be something we take with us when we travel. I miss my iPhone!
Scales are fibbers. Filthy fibbers! :svengo: I did get a shock, but I recovered well. I'm soldiering on with 5:2.

Teaching G general computer skills sounds like a good idea (if only because you never know if something might someday happen to you) as long as it doesn´t turn into him coming to you with specific club-related problems for you to solve. You can do this!

He does need to learn how to do internet banking etc, but I'll teach him one thing at a time. He knows how I feel about this, LaMa. I can do this!

An iPad is a great idea for internet backing and emailing but sounds like a laptop in order if he needs to use spreadsheets etc. I would also consider seeing if there is an adult education centre nearby Cate. We have great ones that run these type of skill sets for people.

Keep going with the plan

There isn't an adult centre nearby, Petal or I would have him booked in quick smart. There is a small online centre, but the only classes they have are on Wednesdays when we both play golf. I don't think he would be able to learn how to do spreadsheets. He's a smart cookie but does everything old school. I can't see him changing that much. He has been going through stuff for ages & has written down lots of notes & is calling in to see the ex-secretary/treasurer tomorrow. He is a stickler. He's a good man, my husband. He'll do this to the best of his ability, that's for sure.
