Cate's Diary

Hey Cate, I can relate to G on this one, I am also slower than most to adapt to new computer skills. For example I would have no idea how to post here, or anywhere else from my phone, and only very recently figured out how to email from my phone. But I have found that much as I did not want to learn things like online banking once figured out they are a whole lot easier, and more accurate than the old paper approach. Hopefully he will also.

I was in the large Tesco one day and a lady assistant was very kindly showing a customer how to do an email and send a text on her phone . Very impressive.

Cate your grandkids would be an asset to G . My daughter helped her grandmother and grandaunt out with lots of stuff like that . They manage well enough now . Both are nearly 80 . And G is only a young lad .

Well at least computers are much more user-friendly than when they first came out! I remember how frustrating and complicated they used to be. I admit i like to lag behind a bit when it comes to technology but eventually i end up learning things because it's hard to get by without.

I remember the pre-Windows days when my mom had to take a programming course just to do our bookkeeping. For years there was a little notebook beside the computer with a list of commands we needed to do/find stuff (games, for us).

Thanks, Rob. I'll try to be patient & teach him.
Hi, Petal. We don't see the GKs often enough for them to teach him. I think I can teach him the basics of emailing anyway & it will be ok if he uses a different computer.
Hi, Liza. We'll see how he goes. I think it has been an aversion to technology really that has held him back. I have taught myself because I wanted to learn.
Hi, LaMa. When I first started work as a 17-year-old there was a computer that almost filled a room!

I have had the weirdest of days. I had another bad night's sleep last night & woke up grumpy with G still. This morning we had the troll in the forum who really threw me out of kilter & then I went to golf & had a terrible game & came home feeling exhausted & totally out of sorts. G was disappointed that I didn't want to go out to 8-ball with him tonight, but I was just too grumpy & tired to go. I said I would take him next time, either next week or the week after.
He has been gone now for an hour & I am in my PJ's, just ate a delicious nectarine instead of the chocolate I felt like & am enjoying catching up with the forum & just relaxing.
Tomorrow I will fast & will spend the day at home doing very little. I will go for a walk through the bush though.

Sounds to me like you are just tired a bit Cate . Glad you feel a little better now though and I hope a good nights sleep has you in a lovely mood tomorrow

Thanks, Petal & LaMa. I was really overtired and recognised it. I made myself stay awake all evening by spending time on my computer, rather than watching tv. I did end up having 4 squares of chocolate & a piece of licorice at about 9 pm, but it didn't do much for me thank goodness. I'm actually going off chocolate. I then had some more real food at about 10 pm (oat toast with peanut butter & another with Quark & marmalade). G got home & they had won their final & are straight into the GF in 2 weeks time. Before going to bed I massaged magnesium oil into my feet, which I used to do years ago, but stopped when I bought some expensive organic cotton bedding as I didn't want to ruin it.
I slept like a log. I think I got up once during the night, but it was a wonderful sleep & I feel so much better this morning. I have made a conscious decision to stop being crabby with G as I don't like feeling that way. It's done. He is in the position for now & he can learn, but I can teach him the basics of emailing etc. We are going to take my old computer in tomorrow to get cleaned up.
I won't be walking anywhere today I don't think as it is raining quite heavily & seems set in for the day. It's lovely actually. Some housework will be done instead.
I'm fasting today.

Keep posting and remember when you can pull yourself out of a hole then you are able to show others how to get out of that same hole. Your even helping me by your honesty! You got this.

Thanks, RS (is there something else we can call you, that's more like a real name please). There is no point in being dishonest. None of us is perfect, but we must keep trying to be as healthy as we can be & never give up on ourselves. There is an excellent support crew in this forum.

Oh, Cate! What a day! Yesterday I mean - thank you (and others) for sorting out the troll, as for all your work here clearing out spam etc. I am SO glad you got a good sleep last night, and that things are looking better today. (Sleep - that mysterious need without enough of which we all absolutely fall to pieces, eventually. )
Wishing you a beautiful time today, with the rain feeling like a boon to the land, and not a hindrance to walkers

...more accurate than the old paper approach
Not at all convinced by this, Rob! I've read too many stories of accidental transfers, and bank intransigence (ie in implementing timely corrections) to have simple faith that they'll get it right more than a paper-based system.

Thanks, Amy. A night of good sleep is very restorative & never to be underestimated. The rain is just lovely & certainly much needed. This will have filled our water tanks.

That magnesium oil sounds like a good idea. I notice I'm often low in magnesium. Maybe I'll get me some of that.
So great you took the rest you needed. And that's great getting the rain you needed too!
As for going off chocolate--well, I can't even imagine!!

This will have filled our water tanks.
Do you rely on cistern water? Rain would seem a bit hit or miss in your area.

Maybe I should have said more accurate than my paper based system. You could be right with a good accountant. Still a lot easier.

About possibly ruining your good sheets with the oil: if you put on thin socks after rubbing it in the oil doesn´t get everywhere.

Hi, liza, Rob, LaMa & Petal. I might put the oil on earlier & really massage it in well & put socks on like I used to, but I don't like sleeping in socks. I didn't have a good nights sleep last night & it seems I don't after a FD. I also weighed myself this morning & the "glitch" I saw a few days wasn't & I was not happy with the scales. I may have sworn & I may have used a four-letter word starting with f & it may have been said three times! F you! I'll adjust my non-FDs even more, cut out my honey & hot lemon drinks at night & cut down my wine consumption.
Rob- we only have rainwater but have never run out. We have 2 x 5,000-gallon tanks & have a large roof catchment. Yesterday we had 55.5 ml of rain, which was wonderful! Maybe you did send some, Petal :)
Edit: I am going to cut out my hot lemon drinks altogether & replace with a herbal sleepytime tea before bed.
I am going to start drinking water with apple cider vinegar in it instead. Apparently this can help with sleeping too.
I am going to cut out alcohol on Mon, Tue, Thu & Fri each week (not counting the golf nationals). Wed is women's golf day.
No sweets, except fruit for the next couple of weeks (with the exception of today's family lunch at G's sister's. I will have a small serve.)
When we get back from our 10 days away I will make a new plan for April.
I'll stick with 5:2 as I'm sure it has lots of health benefits but may have to lower what I have on non-FDs.
