Cate's Diary

Hi Cate. Those low-sodium diets can be tough. Congratulations on your success.

My father had high BP. Can't recall his home monitor brand, but he got it at Walgreens. Maybe you could ask your pharmacist what kind they recommend. He would take his BP and then pet the cat for a few minutes and take it again. He said that the cat always lowered his BP. I think you were considering getting a puppy? Maybe this will influence your decision!

Oh that's a nice story W2L . Pets are very calming . Hope the golf went well Cate

Thanks, LaMa, Amy & Liza. It has been a lot of golf for one week, & I did have lots of fun :)
Hi, W2L. The BP monitor I have was the one recommended by my local pharmacy, but I may go to a specialist health care store in town & see what they recommend. I always take my BP & then do it again after a few minutes & it always drops a bit. I may get a dog one day, but won't for now. I like not having the responsibility & we get away fairly often.
Hi, Petal. It was a really fun day.
Thanks, Jack. It was a really great feeling. So much of golf I think is in your head & maybe it was a combination of feeling more confident with the new clubs but also some of the clubs I did really hit like a dream. The 4 hybrid was a winner & I love the driver!
G & I played in a 4-person team again yesterday with our friend, A & a guy who I think is 84. He was a thorough gentleman & we had such a lovely day. We are both really tired today though. 3 games in a week are good practice for the nationals in March, but I wouldn't want to play that many games too often...zzzzz.

Good for you, Cate. Are you preparing for the nationals? If you keep up that pace, I'm sure it'll get a little easier by March. I don't know much about golf but I like that it's a mental game too. I can appreciate that a lot more now than I did when I was younger.

Thanks, Rob. I don't think I had been consciously preparing for the nationals, but I'm sure it will help. I don't think I would have had the patience required to play golf when I was younger. It can be a very frustrating game. I'm booked in for a lesson on Tuesday. My putting often lets me down.

We just had an echidna in our small yard. He climbed a couple of stairs & then came up onto our decking. This is another reason we love where we live.
Having a very quiet, lazy day today.

I also had to google the echidna--so cute!

Hope you're enjoying the quiet rest--well deserved after all that golf!

Echidnas are among the most special creatures on the planet and having one just walk into your garden sounds about as magical as suddenly spotting a fairy in your livingroom!
So glad the golf is tiring yet fun again: I'm sure your heart will thank you for it.

Hi, Rob. I hope 5:2 works too :)
Hi, Liza. Echidna are very cute & shy. It's the first time we have had one so close.
Hi, LaMa. It was magical! Golf is as it should be these days :)
Hi, Petal. Not that important really, but I will be playing 4 days out of 5 so had better get a bit fitter.

Good morning, forum friends. I just had another really solid nights sleep & that feels really good. G & I are sitting in our recliners drinking our espresso coffees & watching a magnificent bird display in & around our birdbaths. It looks like the calm before a storm out there & the little wrens are flitting about everywhere. We have Scarlet Robins, Superb Blue wrens & Grey fantails so far. As I typed they disappeared. I had heard a Grey Shrike Thrush, which frightens off the little birds, but I haven't seen him yet. Now we have 3 Yellow-throated Honeyeaters.
Yesterday's Echidna just outside the house was a first. We're not sure how he got into our yard & he had trouble finding his way out. We had to open the gates up each end of the house to make it easy for him.

Today is my second FD (<500 cals). I had a hard-boiled egg for BF & have some Greek yoghurt with berries & stevia for lunch. I must try to find another yoghurt with fewer calories for FDs. I got side-tracked there looking at yoghurts online....
Time to get moving....

I may have been drooling just a little bit, LaMa. :D
G & I both get a lot of joy watching the birds. I'm glad I could pass that on.
We just got back from getting a good load of wood which we delivered to our GS. I'm a bit tired. I'm going to have a half serve of grilled salmon with lots of veggies for lunch, rather than dinner. That was hard work on a FD.

That was hard work on a FD
Yes that's what I was thinking as I was reading that. Are you allowed to eat a little more on FD days if you do work like that or are you suppose to stick strictly to 500?
Your place sounds so lovely with all the wildlife around :)

I'm not sure really, Liza. I'll play it by ear. If I am really hungry later & feel I need more I'll just have it, but not much. I'm going to weigh myself tomorrow morning. I won't make a habit of really vigorous exercise on FDs.

The bird watching sounds totally amazing Cate . As does sitting back in your recliners . Yes be wary of doing too much when you are on a FD . Hope the scales are kind in the morning

Random thought: isn´t weighing yourself after fast days "cheating" yourself? When your gi-tract is more empty and you don´t retain water you´ll weigh less, of course, but it says more about how full you are than about how much weight you carry on your body. Then again: if you only weigh after fast days I guess it doesn´t matter. Just as long as you´re aware of it.

Thanks, Petal & LaMa. I'll weigh myself the next day after FDs as I just need to see that scale go down. If I don't soon I may just go bonkers!
It's 6.30 pm & I'm hungry. Only had some greek yoghurt & a few berries for dinner. I'll have some celery soon I think.
