Thanks! It was good but I definitely missed that last 25%, I don't know that I'd say it was totally satisfying!

Goal/ Weight for today:

Dec 12, 2019
Weight: 242 lbs / 110 kg
Goal: 1200g food / 12 oz caloric drink / 20 mins walking
Did go down by another pound, but I'm going to be careful not to get over-excited and project "Oh it's 3 lbs a week from now on". From experience I know that when first starting a diet you can lose the first few pounds very quickly.

To be on target I just need to be 243.5 by next Monday :)

Anybody know how to modify the forum sigs?

It's great that you got out on that walk. Keeping a diary makes a difference & it's nice to know that you have support. You are definitely off to a good start :)

Thanks Cate! I've only been using this forum for a few days but I feel pretty good about it!

Update for today:

Dec 12, 2019
Weight: 242 lbs / 110 kg
Goal: 1200g food / 12 oz caloric drink / 20 mins walking
Food: 1163g
Drink: 26 oz
Exercise: 20 mins walk

I hit my goal for walking today so feeling pretty good about that. If I can do 20 mins every day I think that'll be a good start to being more active! My lowest weight was back in college when I was walking (quickly) across campus multiple times a day. I also enjoy bike riding but there aren't any good areas for that around my house currently.

Just have to watch out for the Christmas sweets- my Mom just sent a giant package of Peppermint Bark in the mail haha o_O

Walking is so good for us in so many ways. I'm glad you feel comfortable in the forum. I think it's a good, supportive space.

Cheering you on for the walking! And for how you're going with this whole project, of course. :) Yes, true enough about the first bout of weight loss being the easiest, but it's still real, and a pleasant kick of encouragement to start things off! Great to see that you're nearly down under 110 - it's very exciting to pass those multiple-of-ten points!

yes so the temptations begin!!

Haha exactly, candy and eggnog and cookies... oh my.

And thanks Cate and aiminglow. While the progress isn't anything amazing so far, I feel very hopeful about the process :)

Hmm looks like I'm back up about a pound from yesterday. Not going to lie, didn't like seeing that number when I stepped on the scale! I'll refer to my previous comment about weight fluctuating a bit and try not to worry too much about it :/

That's right, no one, no matter what we eat or do loses weight every day. However you can be sure that on your plan you are losing fat everyday. Keep up the good work, I am sure you'll get through the X-mas temptations just fine.

Learning what your scale will react to with short-term fluctuations is a big part of keeping calm in this process. Did you eat more salt? Drink more diet soda? Exercise neglected muscle groups? Sleep badly? All those things and many more can make your body retain fluids.

I mean that makes sense. How often do you typically weigh yourself?

Update for today:

Food: 1134g
Caloric Drink: 12 oz
Exercise: 21 min walk

Feeling pretty good about today, hit all my goals :) So obviously it'll drop by a pound tomorrow, right?

Today was definitely the same deal: wouldn't have made the effort to do the walk if I wasn't posting about it here!

I went through exactly this process about a week ago of apparent quick loss and then regain of a pound or 2 without changing anything.
Now I expect the fluctuation. I still weigh myself all the time though! I figure I'll start thinking more in terms of weight ranges...

Great about hitting all your targets!

Thanks LaMaria! And thanks Liza :) I used to have an excel spreadsheet with maybe a year of weight logs, and I once calculated the Standard Deviation on that data. I forget the exact value but I think a +/- 2 lb spread was possible on any given day (!)

Weight / Goal for today

Dec 14, 2019
Weight: 242 lbs / 110 kg
Goal: 1200g food / 16 oz caloric drink / 20 mins walking

Even with all the talk about weight fluctuations, still happy to see that number go down again. Really itching to get it below 240.... Bumping up to 16 oz of "caloric drinks" because It was too sad pouring myself a couple tiny 6 oz glasses. I don't think an extra 4 will hurt. Fun fact: ounce per ounce, soda has about the same amount of calories as 2% milk!

Going to brunch today so will need to do some estimation on how much I eat there.

yes that's always encouraging!

I always find estimates hard, but it's getting easier the more I measure stuff at home.

That made me laugh about it being too sad. That's sometimes how I feel about my sad size of desserts but it is starting to feel more normal now.
