Cate's Diary

No, no - not witch-like! Inspired, in touch with wonders - "her flashing eyes, her floating hair!... For she on honey-dew hath fed, And drunk the milk of Paradise! :)
But yes, I'm all for avoiding the nasties in Paradise. For me, it's particularly snakes and centipedes. (shudder!)

Phew! :svengo: That's a relief. I think I'll give up on the salt idea & start soaking my boots in repellant & I'm buying some gaiters soon. I must stop thinking about leeches or I might have nightmares!
I love poetry. Thanks for sending me off in search of the origins of your quote, Amy.

Good morning, LaMa. I was feeling a bit sensitive yesterday & a little out of sorts & definitely not very wise. Sometimes I just need to take extra care of myself, especially when I know I am feeling a bit sensitive. I'm fine this morning but will be aware.

I usually don't sleep well when G is away & take ages to get to sleep, but not last night. Until 2017 he had never gone away with friends, without me & it took some getting used to. I am really happy that he does this as he has so much fun & they are such a great group of men. I really like most of them & don't dislike any. The year before his first trip he had cancer & we had an overseas trip in May & he said that he wouldn't go. I insisted that if he wanted to go he should. He went & rang me every day & was laughing so much, telling me what had happened that day, that I insisted he go every year from now on. These guys have been the best medicine for him. I enjoy their company too & catch up with most of them regularly.

I weighed myself this morning & have lost half a kilo in the last week & 1.5 for the month. I actually feel lighter than that because my stomach feels like it has shrunk a lot more. Doing IF has switched my brain around into really focussing on losing weight again. I needed something that was going to trigger that switch. I tried on a pair of pants I couldn't do up a month ago & they fit again. It is such a relief. I'm going into the newly opened op shop today to see if I can find some "new" clothes to tide me over. I have another big bag full to take including lots of our son's discards, some of which I kept, & some of G's & my stuff, including as-new shoes. I am going to think carefully about anything I buy from now on.

That whole story is very moving and powerful - the company of other people who enjoy each other's company and make each other laugh as absolutely the best medicine (and in context of that horrible time of cancer). Thank you. (and glad you got a good night's sleep last night! So fundamental!)

Hey! I've just read further and seen that you, too have had a pair of pants do up again! Hooray! :hurray: Well done on the weight loss, too. The op shop excursion sounds like fun - and useful as well, to drop off discards. I really like the op-shop system - partly because it clothes me, pretty much, but also I get a kick out of the little groups that run them - the Magdalene Bargain Centre, the Animal Welfare Shop, the Offenders' Aid Rehabilitation Society (alas, that shop is now closed - but what a great old name for the group, eh? :D)

Good for you! 1.5 kg in September is great!

I am not big on leaches or ticks. I got a tick fever about 15 years ago, it was the worst illness I have ever had. Seen plenty of leaches, but never had the bad luck to get bitten.

So glad to hear you feel more in control again :grouphug: And I love that G has such a great group of friends; not enough men have that,

Lovely to read your update Cate . Yay for the 1.5kg loss .imagine if we did that every month .
Glad to hear that you are keeping upbeat and happy with G away . Good luck with shopping excursion . Don’t buy too much !!

Thanks, Amy. I love that G has a great group of friends who make him laugh. He deserves it. We went through a rough patch out at the golf club & I am glad he is well clear of them. He is a really good, kind-hearted man.
It felt good to have dropped some more weight off & to feel slimmer. It has been a frightening upward trend for the last year.
The op shop names here are comparatively boring. It's a great system though. So much Millers crap (mostly Bangladesh sweatshop produced) in them, unfortunately. I did manage to buy one item but had got overwhelmed by fragrance & had to abandon. I'll get by for now.

Thanks, Rob. I'm really happy that I feel I have reversed the upward trend. Leeches & ticks are GROSS. You have been very lucky (with the exception of the tick fever!) I had a tiger leech on me once & I itched for 6 weeks. SIX!

Thanks, LaMa. It has taken me a while to find my groove again, that's for sure. It is lovely that G has such a lovely group of friends. You're right. Not enough men have that. He is also learning to speak his mind & state his opinions after a lifetime of not speaking up. He said something the other day that he wished he had spoken up more & stood for what he believed in. He has always been afraid to do so I think.

Thanks, Petal. You just posted. I would be so happy if I lost 1.5 kg every month :D I'll take any loss really. I do feel fine about G being away. I'm really happy for him. It does him good. My shopping was mostly groceries & I only bought a $4 sleeveless vest for next Winter :)

I bought some Tofu today & lots of other bits and pieces & will have a crack at a stir-fry on Thursday. I have enough cooked food until then. I made a delicious Tzatziki & had some with my lunch, which was 1/2 an avocado with some vinaigrette, celery, snow peas, a marinated drumstick & some Venison Dendeng. I have just had some blue cheese & some brie, with some seedy low carb, very delicious, but expensive crackers. I looked up a recipe for them & am going to try to make some on Thursday or maybe Friday. I might have some yoghurt & fruit before 8 pm. I don't feel like much. I am upping my protein, which is reducing my hunger.

Food sounds good! The smells are mostly what keeps me out of second hand shops. I just sneeze myself to death within minutes.

Well done on the loss Cate and what I think is even better - fitting into a formerly too tight pair of pants! That is such a good feeling.

Thanks, LaMa & Em.
Off to golf earlier this morning as I'm dropping my car off to have my new whizz-bang radio put in. It's going to look a whole lot better than my car!

Sounds delicious, especially the cheeses on the top-of-the-range crackers! (I had to look up dendeng, though! :D )
That's very interesting, about the increased protein reducing hunger - is this a known thing?
Cheers for the whizzbang radio - and best wishes for the golf!

Thanks, Amy. I'm pretty sure it's a known thing. I haven't time to search for a credible link as I have to leave in 5 mins xo

Hope your ok Cate . I know your home alone so just checking in. Hope the golf went well . Bed time here so goodnight xx

Thanks, Amy. My golf was atrocious, but I still had a good day :)
Hi, Petal. That's very sweet of you. I haven't tackled actually working out the radio yet. The mechanic tuned it in for me & I managed to turn the sound up on the drive home, but I'll check it out properly tomorrow. I went looking for my BIL's USB that has his whole collection of music on it & I can't find it. There are about 1500 songs on it.
We (some of the women) are having a mini working bee today out at the course, pulling out weeds & trimming. It's to help G, who hasn't been able to keep up with it, with her treatment. The garden is her baby & we'll follow her instructions.
Petal- I went to bed at 9.30 last night & slept like a log! I was SO tired.

G rang me this morning & sounded so happy. He got the giggles on the phone, telling me about something funny that happened yesterday. I love this man!
OK- I had better get around the diaries. The spam has been tidied up already ( :) Tru xo)

That's so good - you and the other women pitching in today, to care for friend-G's garden at the course. Hope the weather's just right for it. :)

And also lovely to hear about chap-G having such a great time! :beerchug:
