Lift, Train, Fitness

Nifty bench. Right now my bench weights are such that as long as I don't hit total failure, I can always do the 'roll of shame.' I'm trying to lift in the 8 RPE range and avoiding the 9s and especially 10s as much as possible. But since some days are better than others...

Yep, for most goals, you do not need to push to the point of catastrophic failure, for powerlifters we train close to failure a lot, and when it gets heavy often a single spotter is not only to slow for the catch, they are often not strong enough in the spotting position.

As an experienced lifter It is super rare for me to fail badly, but I also feel it holds me back at times. Also as a coach, the safer the equipment you have, the less chances of accidents and being sued for negligence.

I think more gyms should have this style bench, due to the number of idiots in commercial gyms who have no idea what they are doing, load up and ego lift in front of their mates.

My bench is at the powdercoaters at the moment, should be ready to pick up in a few days :)

Yeah, whenever I spot someone on bench, I try to remind them that I can't curl this much. :)

One of the benefits of a competition bench is the improved positioning of the centre spotter, so at least it is not a curl

Was a tough day physically at uni, spent 2 hours in the uni gym lab analysing 9 different squat variations, and now my poor old body is reminding me just how much it dislikes strict pistol squats.:svengo:

Feeling sore today lol, bub is still asleep but will wake up soon. I need to get some study done today in prep for an exam next week but for now, I think it is time for some active recovery by jumping on the bike before little miss wakes up.

9 different squats? I'm too scared to even look at what pistol squats are. You're a gun, Tru!

Squat Variations

TRX assisted squat
Basic bodyweight squat
Goblet squat
Single and double kettlebell front squat
Split Squat
Cossack Squat
Bulgarian split squat (Bulgarian split squat with rear leg supported by TRX to progress the exercise difficulty)
Reverse split squat
Pistol Squat

It is insane how many squat variations there are, these are just the ones we were examining in the lab, most can be progressed by adding weight

Not feeling great this morning, slept like a contortionist after bub joined us in bed last night.

I remember how that feels. R, our younger son, used to often end up in our bed when he was about 3 I think & I would wake up with a foot in my ear & teetering on the edge of our double bed. I was always tired back then.

Bub is super iritable today and not letting me get much done, however she did enjoy going out into the garden to plant some tomato seed (An heirloom tropical climbing variety)

Hopefully I will get into the gym tonight to get some FMS practice and to get a balanced training session in for myself.

I was one of those kids that would end up in their parents´ bed (terrible anxiety, nightmares) but they´d put me back into my own as soon as I fell asleep. Once I was asleep nothing could wake me though, so I understand that doesn´t work for most people.

I think bub may have anxiety problems, at times she gets so upset for no apparent reason she vomits. The rest of the time she is the happiest cheeky kid you could meet, almost always laughing and smiling.

Sounds like tiny LaMa :) I had the advantage of sharing my room with my sisters at the time so I wasn´t even alone but having anxiety when you´re way to young to understand what it is, is... hard.

Our son used to vomit a lot as well when he was about 3, after getting himself in a state. I thought he was anxious as life had changed dramatically for us, but he was diagnosed with Asthma & we found out a couple of common key triggers are MSG & yellow food colouring. Cheesels & Twisties were his favourite snack, so they had to be cut out.

managed a few hours of study today, then spent a couple of hours pulling my hair out, I am somewhat out of practice with coding and I have needed to make some php changes to the back end of my website grrrrrrrr

it is still not right but I don't want to go through a marathon chat with my host to get it perfect at the moment, it is working well enough for the moment.

I hate dealing with help desk chat, going through everything I had already tried, then saying it was a server problem which I had already worked out, then to tell me he couldn't help because it was a server issue, grr have to wait at least another day as the issue gets passed up the chain.

webhost help desk people seem to only be able to help the average mug who cannot operate their cpanel interface rather than people who may actually know something.
