Lift, Train, Fitness

It's almost like when kids first go to kindergarten and bring home All The Bugs until their immune system adjusts  I hope you feel better asap!

yep, feeling better today, ready for tomorrow lol.

ok now for some stuff with nothing to do with weight loss.

Had games night last night, I usually DM our AD&D game but because I was still sick, hubby took on DM duties and I was able to play.

reading stuff in another thread about genealogy research, There are often very interesting people who show up, one of mine is my great great grandfather who has Driscoll Point in Recherche bay (Tasmania) named after him because that is where he would knife fight trouble makers (he was a special constable) or make them fight each other if there were 2. THROUGH TASMANIA, No. 96. - [BY OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.] - The Mercury (Hobart, Tas. : 1860 - 1954) - 12 Sep 1885 is one article published about him. Mums research and knowledge she got directly from my great grandfather were written up for a book chapter on Recherche Bay before she died, I don't think the book has been published yet.

Good to see you back and feeling a bit better! Take it easy getting back into things, though.
(Sounds silly saying such a thing to someone who knows a lot more about health than I do, but one of my bugbears is that people don't give themselves time to recover from things - modern society seems to expect instant bounceback, and adult bodies don't do that IMO.)

That's a great enlistment photo - and serving with the Light Horse! Does that mean he was in the famous charge - the 40,000 horsemen?

No, my great grandfather was a member of the camel corps, the cameleers were at Bersheeba but did not form part of the famous charge. 10 Incredible Photos Of The Imperial Camel Corps My great grandfather was not at Bersheba, his unit was at Magdhaba in Palestine. World War I: Battle of Magdhaba

edit: as a kid, I would visit him on my walk home from school every day, so I knew my great grand parents well, he died age 96, my great grandmother died at 101.

At uni today, still have a bad cough but feeling ok. Made some poor food choices before rushing out the door this morning. Going to be another long physical day.

While most uni degrees involve a lot of sitting, this one is very hands on, most of today will be spent in the sport's stadium

Your story of your great grandfather is great, and that you knew him makes it even more impressive! I looked at the camel corps pictures and the camel corps links. I didn't even know there was a camel corps. In the US we don't learn much British history after about 1776, and almost no Australian history.

Very tired and my shoulder is painful tonight, much of the physical stuff at uni was basketball related, I enjoy most sports but the one exception is Basketball yuck. in 2 weeks I have a coaching assessment for football (soccer) which will be easy as I am already qualified as a football coach then 3 weeks after that an oz-tag assessment.

At least Wednesday will be fun, going into detail for muscle activation during Deadlift.

That´s funny: basketball is the only team sport I genuinely enjoy. I hope your shoulder calms down soon though.

I don't like basketball (or volleyball) either & enjoy most sports. You will blitz this uni course, Tru. I bet you surprise a lot of the young ones :D

feeling very shaken right now, just came within inches of not making it home alive after encountering a fucking #%*! on the road.

who in their right mind tries to overtake a turning car ? the car behind me slowed down when my blinker went on, but as I was turning, all of a sudden there was a car screeching to a stop inches from my car door, he had tried to overtake rather than slowing down.

who in their right mind
Here that would almost always be a young girl. They overtake you, over white lines, going around blind corners, speeding....You name it. Young girls seem to have taken over the raving lunatic driving that young boys used to do. Definitely temporary Australians. The trouble is they kill others. I'm very glad you got out of that alive, Tru!

My nephew got his driver´s license yesterday but he´ll have to drive under supervision until he turns 18 in April. I hope that´ll help him avoid mistakes like whoever pulled that stunt on you. I´m glad you´re safe!

In Queensland (all Australian states are different). At age 16 you can get a learners permit after passing a written test, the learner then has to complete 100 hours of supervised log book driving including 10 hours of night driving. At 17 a learner can then sit a practical test to get their "P" Plates (red) after 12 months independent driving they can do a hazard perception test to upgrade to green "P"s which are held for 2 years before being able to get an open licence.

expectation and reality are two different things :(

Uni today, lecture then into the gym lab to spend a couple hours going over deadlift. Should be straight forward as It is a lift I already spend time coaching, but there is always more to learn.

so far today I have had some shoulder ham cut from the bone for breakfast while I was packing bubs lunch for the the day. just spending a few minutes relaxing before I head to uni and spend some quality time in the library accessing research papers, I have a couple I want to read but only have access to the abstracts at home, logging in from the uni should give me full access.

Your days sound so busy but also so focussed & productive. You seem to have settled in well to Uni, Tru.

...feeling very shaken right now, just came within inches of not making it home alive...

Phew! I'm very glad that you didn't get hit - and yes, not surprising you were left feeling very shaken as well as angry. I'm guessing the driver (who seems to have been overtaking two cars - yours and the one that slowed?) just drove away without any penalty or follow-up? To go right on being a danger on the road. :flame: Awful.

On another tack - great that you have uni access to the papers you want to read! It sounds like you're really enjoying it!

Uni is great, I can understand why the Uni does not give RPL for this stuff, it is highlighting how bad most personal trainers actually are. The last 30 minutes of the lecture i just attended was highlighting how bad planks can be (most trainers teach them wrong and in a way that can cause injury) and also looking at bird dogs which if done correctly are very tough, but if done the way most personal trainers teach them, and the way shown on websites a lot of people trust they also cause back problems
