Cate's Diary

Thanks, LaMa. She seemed to be fairly philosophical about it, so I will try to be positive as well.

Cate, I tend to find my lower back gets quite stiff if I haven’t played a round in a while. Generally speaking if your shoulders arms or back are sore there’s something wrong with your swing. In my case there a LOT wrong - mainly direction

My arms are very stiff & I know I must have been gripping the clubs too hard. I wasn't totally relaxed I know. I should be better next week. I'll try to think of relaxing as I swing. Relax, head down, slow down!

Good luck. The slower I swing the more accurate and longer the shot. Balance is key. It’s probably one of if not THE most frustrating sport but it only takes one good shot to make you come back out the next week and start the torture all over again.

It’s worth it when you're on the 19th watching/laughing at everyone else though

Balance is key. It is a very frustrating sport, but I do love it & I play enough good shots to keep me going back for more :)

We are away for a couple of nights for G's pool comp & will catch up with R & C :D I am going to get to go to lunch with them tomorrow I think while G is playing.

Thanks, Em. I know that you "root" for R & I like that.

Oh, yeah, gripping too tightly is something that I always had a problem with in tennis. I had a tennis lesson where the coach said to grip like you're holding your wife's hand.

I personally don't play golf - it's expensive, and I suck at it anyway. When my brother had a timeshare, it had a nine-holer, and for some reason I parred the first two holes. It was absolutely amazing. Then things rapidly went south, and it took me 17 shots to get the final hole down. Definitely not the game for me.

Have fun at the pool outing!
Thanks, LaMa. I'm glad I'm back home. I'm starting to get bored watching it now so will make other arrangements next time I think. It was lovely seeing R, but I didn't catch up with C.
Hi, Jack. I know that I hold the clubs too hard when my arms ache, I also know I will never be great at golf, but I don't mind. Walking around the course is such good exercise.
It is very cold & very wet. Winter has arrived! :(

All the more reason to be walking around the golf course: more fresh air and light to keep you happy during the dark times!

Hi Cate, for me the tight grip was something I just always did - never did figure out how to loosen it up and get that pro torque. But don't you use carts to get from one hole to the next? I think a lot of people do that, right?

On a lot of the big courses people do, but at our club, the only ones who do are the ones who just can't get around the course without one. Only one of the women has one & she's the youngest. It means 18 holes of golf takes around 4 hours, but it is much better for your fitness.

I am slowly getting back on track after our major derailment of a detour to Greece for 3 weeks. I had put on 3kg in those 3 weeks. I would like to say a lot of it was water weight, but we ate much more than we usually do.
Even with a weekend away, I managed to lose another .5kg, so that's 1 down.
I haven't worked out if I am going to try anything specific or just try to reduce my intake overall & move more. I'm easing my way into it.
My new/old breakfast of organic oats with some rhubarb, berries, greek yoghurt & walnuts is very satisfying. Soaking the oats overnight makes them so much nicer.
Lunch today will be a cold meat salad & dinner is going to be baked venison leg with lots of vegetables.
Tomorrow I will play golf. I'll have eggs on toast for breakfast & take a bowl of soup with maybe some Ryvitas & hummus & a banana to eat halfway around. Tomorrow night will be venison & veg. I must plan each day or we will end up having something scratch like a toasted sandwich like we did last night. I do not want to do this. Planning is the key to losing weight.
I haven't started counting calories yet.....

One step at a time is enough or you'll be hopping around :)
& we can't have that. I would most likely fall over :D
True! Duly inspired, I will now go and buy that tofu!
& I have to stop thinking about cheesecake!
Yup, planning has helped me loads as well! Hope you'll have a lot of fun playing golf tomorrow :)
I do love the saying "Fail to plan & you plan to fail."
I plan to have fun at golf tomorrow, thank you, Yenna xo

Heading for golf soon. There is a big white frost on the ground, but that usually means a nice, sunny day. I'm feeling pretty good.
2 eggs on very seedy toast with a 1/4 avocado & black coffee. I'm ready :)
