Cate's Diary

Hi Cate

Looks like you are having the time of your life. You look fab . Love your hair cut .
I’m popping in To check on all you lovely ladies . Enjoy the rest of the holiday

Thanks, everyone for your good wishes & very kind words & hugs.
I'm back, but not in forum mode yet. I don't want to spend so much time in the forum as I need to be more active. I really enjoyed all that walking. It will take me a little while to get back into the swing of things, so please excuse me being a bit slack.
We had a wonderful time, but I am really glad to be back home. Sleeping in your own bed is bliss. I slept 10 hours last night & feel like I have caught up now.
I took so many photos, but just put them on FB & don't think I'll print any up.
It was never hot enough to swim, but that was ok as it wasn't too hot to walk around all day either.
I am going to start tracking my food on the 1st of June again as I know that I will have put on 2-3 kilos. G weighs the most he has been in 15 years. I'll weigh myself in the next few days. I'll wait until the moon & stars are aligned :D
We have virtually nothing in the fridge so have to go do a shop this morning. I won't buy any bread for me.
It's quite cold, so I am well rugged up. It's also foggy :( Eek! Only 6 more days until Winter.....Oh well.
I am going to have a good think about what I am going to do to get as fit & healthy as I can & I will be starting golf next Wednesday, if it is not raining!

That's a good article Tru. That's nice that you thought of me :)
I am definitely going back to golf. I think I will have some lessons too, but may wait until the weather is better for those. I will have to stay out of the politics at the club as it is no better. I can do it!

Happy you are back!! What was your favorite thing you did on the trip? How was it compared with other tours you have done? That must be hard coming from a nice sunny place to cold winter! At least you have enough firewood for the fire and some nice wine and blankets to curl up in!

Glad you will do golf but not be involved in helping run the club. Would you be into dance classes or dvds? Do I ask too many questions?!

Yes you can! Won't be easy though, better get used to saying "no" a lot.
I'm practising already. No, no, no,no,no & no reasons why not :D
Do I ask too many questions?!
No, you don't. How do we find out anything, without asking questions :)
My favourite thing may have been the museum of the Temple of Knossos in Heraklion & then visiting the actual site. The Minoan civilisation was such a peaceful one. They had beautiful things & were incredibly clever.
This tour was very different from the others. It was much more educational & informative. In Greece, it is essential to have done a 4-year degree in guiding before being allowed to guide so we had very knowledgeable guides. A lot of it went over my head, but that's ok too. Only one guide I found really boring. She also was very unfit & couldn't walk & talk which was frustrating for all of us.
One of our guides, Andreas from Crete, was fascinating. He actually managed to get me interested in finding out more about the battle of Crete in WW1. Now that is a minor miracle as I have had no interest in any war stories before. He is passionate about Crete & I don't blame him. Crete was my favourite place.
Coming back to the cold is always tough, but I will adjust. The fire is going nicely & G has a big soup going. We are going out to dinner tonight as we got a call inviting us to join a small birthday group, which is nice. I play golf with her & G used to play golf with him. Only 10 are going so it's nice to be included. G will have tobreak the news that he's not rejoining.
I am definitely not going to be taking on any positions at the club.
I am keen on taking up something new & a dance or exercise class would be good. I'll start looking around. We also will visit the migrant resource centre to see if there's any way we can help.
Today we are taking a load of wood down to our GS & his housemate, who are paying "mates rates" rather than getting free wood, at our son's suggestion. Fair enough.
OK- better get moving. I haven't time to get around all the diaries this morning as I had another big sleep-in!

Cate, I was not ready for that picture of you! So nice to know what you look like. And I noticed you are wearing your blue scarf in the picture, it really is a nice colour on you.

Haha, getting interested in what happened in WW1 in Crete of all places - he must have been truly gifted at being a tour guide. :p I’m not a huge history buff but WW2 is the one that interests me. It was such a scary time in the world. It’s important things don’t get as bad as that ever again.

Anyway, enough about that. Glad you had such an amazing time, what did you make of Santorini?

Hi, Rob. I have been away since you started your diary so I just read back to the start.

Hey Cate, you have me at a disadvantage, I tried to read through your diary, but over 600 pages were too many for me. That is impressive. I was trying to get the thread of your story, it sounds like you lost a lot of weight before starting your diary and have been struggling to maintain ever since, is that about right? I also see that you live in Australia, travel a lot and vote the Labor Party. You are married and have children and grandkids. Did I get anything wrong? Oh, and you are or have been on a diet called Cohen for a long time, what is that? Sorry for all the questions, I just like to have a feel for folks.

How tall are you, btw?

5' 7", which I believe is an inch or so shorter than you. Sorry for the English units, we here in the US are converting to metric on the 100 yr plan........

I'm so happy you loved Crete so much. I have always marveled at their art - it isn't like in the rest of Greece or even like anything in the rest of Europe I have seen. I've always wondered if they were influenced by Egyptian art and did their own nautical take on it. Glad you got rested up and all the things in your near future sound so positive!!!

Hi, Rob. You got it fairly right. I was on a very restrictive diet, called Cohen's, back in 2007 & lost 36kg. I haven't been on it since. I have regained some, but it is a real battle not putting weight back on. Don't ever apologise for asking questions. I welcome them.
Hi, Marsia. Crete is wonderful & I thought of you while we were there. I know you would love it. I am even tempted to try pottery. I could pretend I was aiming at primitive art :D
G & I went out for dinner last night & enjoyed the evening. It is more expensive eating out here than it was in Greece, even just eating at a family-run pub. We eat better at home.
Breakfast this morning was 65g of organic oats, 250mls low-fat milk, a little dried fruit, some raspberries & blackberries, a dollop of Greek yoghurt & a few walnuts. Yum. Very filling!

I love working in clay - it's very relaxing. You should try it!! (I also like primitive art a lot!)

Your breakfast sounds lovely!

I could pretend I was aiming at primitive art :D
I'm often surprised at what people call "primitive". If you look at what archeologists and anthropologists dig up it'd take years and years of practice for any of us to be that sophistocated in woodworking/pottery/smithing/weaving.
