Cate's Diary

I think chicken salad has got to be one of my favourite meals. Well done on taking all the rubbish to the tip. Do you do the golf club as a favour ?

I love chicken salad. I ordered it once in Baltimore & was horrified when a disgusting mayonnaisey blob arrived. It was gross. My sister was surprised that I had ordered it, but my idea of chicken salad was a long way away from the US version!
Yes- we do the rubbish at the golf club as a favour. Not much would get recycled if we didn't do it.
Tiring day, good food, that´s how it´s supposed to be :) Hope you can take it easy tomorrow!
I took it easy this afternoon LaMa. Tomorrow is G's golf day so I'll do the bar 1st thing, grocery shop & bar after & then evening home while he plays 8-ball. I'm doing a 500 cal "fast" tomorrow & then my second one for the week Thursday. My brain deals better with this than the every day counting everything. I am not even thinking of snacking either.

I wondered what "taking the rubbish to the tip" meant. American translation would be "taking the garbage and recycling to the dump," I think? American chicken salad is pretty weird. I eat mine with pesto as the binder, and that is much nicer.

Glad you are enjoying your new diet!

Thanks, LaMa. Doing 5:2 feels different from "dieting".
Thanks, Marsia. The salad was delicious! You were right about rubbish to the tip :) We say rubbish instead of trash or garbage.
Hi, Petal. I'm doing a "fast" today. I just have black coffee for breakfast (after a couple of waters).
I try to wait until at least 12, preferably 2, to have anything to eat. I drink herbal tea & some water.
For lunch, I have some raw celery & a soup I made the other day with vegetables only. 58 cals.
If I get ravenous during the afternoon I will have a small piece of beef jerky(15g), which is about 53 cals.
Then in the evening, I have a normal meal- meat or fish & low cal veggies, followed by a piece of fruit.

Is it hard having a little food so your digestion starts up and expects more? I have fasted, and don't mind it at all, but if I have even a little food, my stomach goes nuts!

It is, & that is why I wait as long as I can before having anything at all. The soup is good & next time I make another I'll make it much bigger so I can spread it out over the afternoon. Jerky is great as it really does expand in your stomach. That reminds me. I had better go fill a thermos with green tea!

That makes sense! Maybe I'll try a day here and there!!
It isn't easy. Well, some days are harder than others. Yesterday was tough & I went over - about 590 cals. I think it's harder in Winter.
Oh I started back on green tea again today funnily.
I applaud you for doing that fast. It sounds hard.
I drink herbal tea all the time & have done for years. Peppermint is my favourite, but I usually mix up brews, which can have any combination of Rooibos (African bush tea), Green tea with lemon myrtle, peppermint(I always have one of these in the mix), lemon & ginger, sometimes laxative tea(senna I think).....My sister thinks it's weird mixing them all up, but I love it. We always share a pot of espresso coffee first thing in the morning after breakfast & while I'm typing in here & then I don't have caffeine at all for the rest of the day usually. I have the occasional skinny cap when I'm out & about, but not often.

Yesterday- I was really hungry all afternoon, after having my FD soup. I'm wondering if I might do better not having anything at all until dinner time, so may just give that a try tomorrow. I know that it's early days yet & it takes time to get used to fasting.
Today- I had oats, almond milk, a banana & a teaspoon of honey for breakfast.
Dinner will be chop suey. Not sure about lunch. Maybe "bits & pieces"- salad items with crackers. I'll "encourage" G to make a hummus.

I have been asked if I would be interested in participating in an SBS documentary on MCS. This freaks me out, but at the same time, is an opportunity to try to get the message across about it as that is half the problem. I'm not sure what to do really. The thought makes me very nervous!

With the documentary, you would be one voice in a whole documentary, so it would be preaching to the open minded or people curious about the topic for the most part I imagine. I bet the producer would make you feel very at home. Could you meet the people you would be working with first before you decide for sure?

I ate a huge 500 calorie breakfast this morning, so I really empathize with that being it for the whole day. I think it's a great idea to eat the calories more toward dinner, so you don't have to be skipping meals after getting your digestion going for the day!

I´d be nervous for sure. Can you get a bit more information about what exactly they´d want from you in the documentary? I agree it´s the kind of thing that´d help people understand (not to mention something you can save a link to for whenever someone´s being obtuse) and maybe knowing exactly what you´re getting yourself into would help ease the nerves.

I have said yes to my sister, but I will make sure that, if he wants to come over to Tasmania, to interview me, I will be well prepared & know what to expect. Nothing may come of it. Most of the allergy group committee members are not up to it, including my sister. I sent a message to another woman in Tassie that I met through the allergy group & said that if she would consider it, we could do the interview at our home. I met her when my sister visited here years ago & we invited the Tasmanian members. I really liked her & we could be moral support for one another. I have kept in touch with her.
I can't pm at the moment, but if anyone wants to see the details of the producer/filmmaker send me a pm & I'll reply with his website. I have seen him on TV, but not sure on what show.

Had a good day today. I haven't exercised much, but have also eaten lightly.

It sounds like a marvellous opportunity if you can do it . I have a fear of performing anything in public , i would crumble so if you do it and it helps others maybe do so .

I have always had a fear of being in the spotlight or being up on stage or the centre of attention. I am reminding myself that I got up on stage last year at a rock show & loved it. I was so far out of my comfort zone & was so proud of myself that I will try to remember that!

Having someone you know there sounds like a very helpful thing. Decent documentary-makers prepare well and treat their subjects respectfully. If you can have a look at some of their previous work that´ll probably tell you if you want to be a part of their project.

Also my husband had to give presentations at work at a cut-throat law firm which really freaked him out, so he joined Toastmasters, where he learned to present in a way that focused on what message you want to get out, so it takes the pressure off of you and has you focus on really communicating what you really care about. I looked it up and there is a Toastmasters in Tasmania http://www.toastmasters.org/Find-a-Club/00006247-00006247 . He loved it and has life-long friends from the club who are all great, supportive people.
