Cate's Diary

Cate ,
Glad you having a rest day. It’s important too. Well done on driving through the fog it's a horrible feeling . Also well done on losing 36kg . That is phenomenal . The fact you are still here posting is extremely positive and an encouragement. Weight management for some of us is truly a life long mission.
I have been thinking about the diet coach and you are right my diary should be my coach. And this forum. I would be delighted for all feedback you can give and if I'm struggling yes I will come talk to you . Thank you . I did think about asking my friend but you know I'm not sure I can go into the depths with thoughts etc that I feel I might do here.

Hi, Petal. I had a lovely rest day & just went over my calories. I didn't wear my Fitbit. I really felt like something sweet last night & we did not have any "interesting" fruit left so I decided we could have one gingernut snap & 1 dark chocolate mint wafer. Was 1427 for the day.
I have had veggies & some parmesan cheese for breakfast & am having some celery, an avocado, boiled eggs & some vinaigrette for my lunch in town & tonight we will have grilled Atlantic salmon & veggies. I'll picnic in the park by the river while G plays golf.
I will shop today in my mask as we really need some more fruit & veg & some easy protein. I'm trying hard to think of breakfast options that don't involve starchy carbs, like toast or cereal.
Time to head......

Breakfast can be whatever you want to eat in the morning :) Veggies with cheese sounds good to me (although I couldn´t get enough protein from the parmesan without blowing up my histamine account). This morning I´m having adzuki beans with sweet potato, hemp hearts and a punnet of blueberries.

Cate I end up shopping about 3 times a week for fruits . I'm pretty boring with breakfasts and eat the same stuff most days. My fruit and yoghurt . However sometimes I just fancy eggs or a little bacon . Another go to is wholewhat bagel with peanut butter and banana but I know you don't want bread . I too never have cereals or normal toast.
Occasionally though I might dip one slice wholemaeal bread in an egg and fry it on hot pan ( no butter) slice fruit on top and a dash of cinnamon .
Sounds like you had a really nice yesterday .

I didn't get enough protein from the Parmesan & was really hungry by 11 am. I am so used to having breakfast that includes toast that I am finding it hard to have a standby breakfast, except for yoghurt, fruit & almond meal. I'm right now that I have bought some nicer fruit & some more Greek-style yoghurt.

I really feel like I need to go back to the skeleton plan that I initially lost my 36 kg on & that states that I should never go back to having bread or cereal for breakfast. Unfortunately, back in 2007, I didn't ask if they meant any starchy carbs or just bread & cereal. I decided to not have any for a while to see what happens.
I also forgot to mention this morning that I weighed myself & didn't gain anything over the weekend away, which I'm quite happy about. I still have 9.5 kg to lose.

Cate when you lost 36kg were you at your target weight . Did you notice the 10kg creep back on? Sorry I am just curious

I did get to my target weight, but settled for about 3-4 kg above it. Over the years I slowly crept up a little bit & struggled to get it back down, but usually did. This last few months in particular I have added quite a bit. I need to get back down & stay vigilant!
I never mind being asked questions Petal :)

Went to golf this morning & one of the women was drenched in a really strong perfume- I didn't even manage to finish 3 holes & had to abandon! Headache, shaking, very short of breath...
I feel fairly despondent about it. She knows about my sensitivities but "forgot" yet again. She has a very strong odour from other things as well- she uses fabric softener too. I wasn't even inside when I reacted to her!

Cate I am really sorry to hear that . Is she purposely forgetting . I didn't really know much about this allergy but have now read up on it . My friends husband has it so I now understand a little more about it . She no longer burns a scented candle or uses home fragranced cleaners . Do you have a WHATSAPP group with your golfing friends , could you perhaps add a friendly reminder before the game ?

Thanks, Petal. I'm fairly sure it's not deliberate. She's a very vague, ditzy woman. Most of the golfing women don't even text, let alone use apps :)
Most people don't understand chemical sensitivities & unfortunately, so many people are very attached to their fragrance & seem to think that this is not real. I'm glad that you read up on it. It shows that you care enough to xoC

What an inconsiderate person! I understand that this could be about her insecurity about possibly being smelly without all the scented products (we shame people about bodily odors alllll the time) but I´m not buying simple forgetfulness unless it´s coupled with an absolute disregard for other people´s well-being. Which would make her bad company even as she isn´t trying to be a bad person.

I hope that my going home today makes her more considerate LaMa. The ones who I thought would still wear perfume aren't, which is great, but I just can't see her changing. She is quite dotty & forgetful, but I spoke to her about it today before the game & told her that I need to stay well away from her as she uses a strong perfume & fabric softener I thought & told her that I react strongly to them both. She then started rambling on about her perfume & what was in it- patchouli, blah, blah blah & I said how strong it is & moved away. I had told her that is why I didn't put my name down alongside hers to play with her. I really think she does not understand, but I'm hoping that she will be more considerate in future. I won't hold my breath though! (unless I am near her). I wasn't at all rude to her, but I know she was wondering why I didn't ever play with her& tried telling her politely.
I heard her telling someone that she couldn't play next week, so that will be good for me as it's a comp I wanted to play in.

The patchuli ramble was probably to convince you it was all natural and therefore couldn't trigger a reaction in a reasonable person. You and I know that's bullshit but it's sadly a common view-point.

I don't hold out much hope Petal that she refrains from wearing it next time, but at least she won't be there next week. I think I'll start wearing my mask when I am near her or when I need to go into the buggy room where both our bags & buggies are stored. I don't dislike the woman at all, but I can't afford to have these setbacks. I am really suffering still & now feel like I have bronchitis.

That may be so LaMa. It sure is bullshit, but you're right, so many people equate their idea of natural, with harmless. Also, they think an expensive perfume can't possibly be bad for anyone. Non-essential oils are a prime example. Also, Lavender in any shape or form has me almost passing out.

My "diet" has stayed good & I haven't resorted to any comfort food, with the exception of one mint chocolate on Tuesday night when G was out playing pool.
I feel off colour & a little bit queasy. I need to come up with a standby breakfast that does not involve starchy carbs. I had half an avocado, 1 boiled egg & some salmon this morning & didn't enjoy it. My stomach would rather toast. Maybe tomorrow I'll have a little ham, cheese & fruit.

My stomach wants to repeat last Monday´s mega-breakfast, or something equally umami, but I´ve got a sweet one prepped and I don´t want it to go to waste. Not that it tastes bad, but... it´s just not what I want and that means it isn´t satisfying. Hmpf. I want what you´re having.

Cate hope you feel better soon. Ham cheese and fruit sounds lovely . Would you be allowed grilled bacon and eggs . I really fancy thst now but not bothered to cook it .

Yes wear the mask when you need too . Your health is important.

I don't much like starting my day with sweet either LaMa. I had some leg ham, about 90g baked beans (too sweet) & 2 poached eggs this morning & that was pretty good. I'm going to have a crack at making my own baked beans though. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Petal. Grilled bacon & eggs are definitely allowed. I want to get some really good quality free-range bacon though so will keep an eye out for some.
I will wear the mask more often from now on, but I know I will still get caught out. We were called on to look after the GK's last night for 4 hours & unfortunately they had strong smells on them from staying at their Mum's. I can't not kiss my Gk's goodnight, but didn't hug them. I don't see them as much anymore & I miss them. They are coming up for lunch with D tomorrow as our younger son, R & his GF, will be coming to stay today. D will try to make them FF I know.
I may bump my calories up to 1500 I think as 1400does not seem to be quite enough. Maybe I'll change it to 1450.
I'm feeling a bit heavy headed today & R & C are arriving just after lunch. G & I have the house nice & tidy.

My Mom makes her own baked beans these days and they´re awesome, but I haven´t yet asked her for the recipe. I know you don´t like the shouty bits in these guys´ videos but their recipes tend to be really good so maybe it´s a starting point?

Cate
Sounds like you are having a lovely fulfilled life right now with your husband and grandkids. You are blessed. If you are hungry up your calories a little. Good luck with the bacon hunt.
LaMa those guys are from my country and pretty popular here. They make really health granola which I have sometimes and lots of other things. I have never seen those you tubes but will check it out
