Cate's Diary

Hi Cate,

Oh if you could see my wife's list for our place-lol. Yeah we are at that crossroad too. Should we move or should we stay? I think we have a few more years to stay so we also have had to start fixing things up again- bathrooms- deck etc. I think my place will be too big in a few years. It is a lot of work and I am not sure I want to do it for much longer. That being said- we have looked at other places and I am not ready for a condo or apartment when I grew up on a farm and live on 4 acres now-lol. Everything seems to close together for me. I guess we will see.

Good to see you have been doing okay. I finally got out to golf after about 5 years. Felt good but I golfed horribly. We did a weekend trip to Panorama in the mountains. Course was called Grey Wolf- try googling it - it will give you an idea of some of our golf courses over here. It was very scenic.

Hi, Cowboy!
We have made the decision to stay & it feels good. We both love living up here, away from other people. We are both very sociable but also love our own space & privacy. We are not at all ready to move into a town. Our 50 acres doesn't require too much work & we will get help if we need it. It feels good to get some things fixed up. Having the electrician fix things up yesterday only cost $250 cash & there was quite a list. It helps that they know you will pay them straight up. Fencing will be a lot more but will make catching our sheep a lot easier next time & that is our biggest hassle with the land.
Greywolf Golf Course looks wonderful. G & I just had a look at their website. Maybe we'll fit a night in there when we eventually get to Canada. I know that we would love Canada. I think I told you that I have a niece who lives in BC. She & her husband own a restaurant there. We really must go visit them one day! Canadians & Australians seem so similar. I know you should never generalise :blush5:

I am feeling back on an even keel again. It is such a relief. I'm back to feeling me again.
G & I just went & did some shopping (22km return trip) as he couldn't go to a working bee at the golf club this morning as it was raining. We are now going to have a lazy afternoon reading in front of the fire. Tomorrow he'll play golf & I think that I will have a fast day (<500 cals) & do some exercise (maybe stationary bike & some light weights to music).

I am glad it wasn't too costly to fix the electrical problems- electricians can be very expensive. You are right- fencing can be very costly but worth it if it saves you running after your sheep all over the place-haha.

I know what you mean about being social but needing your space too. That is my one fear about moving into town is the being TOO close to my neighbor-lol.

There are some beautiful mountain golf courses- especially in BC. Some real gems that are challenging but not too challenging and the scenery is second to none.

Funny I always thought Canadians and Australians were very similar too.

I am glad you are back to yourself.

Thanks, Cowboy. I think we will stay here as long as we possibly can. G & I really must make a point of getting to B.C. in particular. I really love my niece. She is such a character! B.C. looks sensational. G's brother & his wife are on holiday over there right now & they are calling in to see her. I'm just a little bit envious that he will visit her before we have.

I am feeling back to being on an even keel again. Whether it's the medication or whether it would have just happened anyway I'm not going to over-think. I just feel good. It is a beautiful day today. We had another thick frost (maybe -2) & the sky is blue, there is snow on the distant mountains & I should get on the move! I'm spending the day at home & am doing a 500 cal "fast". I'll make myself a low-calorie vegetable soup to have during the afternoon & will have a meal of fish & vegetables with G tonight (no wine). I'm currently drinking a pot of herbal tea. I'll finish that first before doing much. I bought a really good teapot in Hobart last visit & I put all sorts of loose tea mixes into it. Today it is a little Equisetum (organic horsetail) some peppermint & a little "honey/ginger mix" that I bought from the coffee shop in town. The teapot has a central infuser that keeps the tea in & it's triple walled & stays really warm. It's a beauty.

I had one made similar. Mine was glass and with kids running around it didnt last long. Now i have one made from a hard plastic and that thing has bounced off the counter more times than i can count. Maybe once all the kids are gone ill buy a new grown up tea pot.

Get one like mine Rebel. It's stainless steel & looks like this- It's double-walled, not triple. Keeps warm for AGES!

Looks/sounds like the tea pot my mom has - and has had for at least twenty years. Its predecessor got bumped around the barn one too many times during the potato harvest.

That's some teapot. Your herbal tea sounds yum. I've got out of the habit of drinking it, must start again.
It's a good habit, especially in Winter, when I just don't feel like drinking cold water. Nonetheless, I did also drink lots of water today. It helped with my hunger.
I did fairly well with food today. I went for a hike around our block & managed to fast until 3 pm. I probably ate more than 500 cals but will count it as a success.
G got home from golf & has an infection under a tooth. Poor thing. He's feeling pretty awful. It's lucky that I had some antibiotics in the fridge or he would have to keep suffering until Monday at least. I'll ring our dentist first thing Monday morning. He had an appointment for the following Monday.

Mm I love herbal tea. My favourite is lemon and ginger. Good for settling the tum :) Glad you are feeling on a even keel - Well done on a fast day! I hope G feels better xx

Thanks, Hana & LaMa. He had a rough night, but the antibiotics are starting to work already & he's a little bit better this morning. I have often wished that I wasn't such an over-thinker/planner, i.e. taking 2 lots of antibiotics on holiday, just in case(1 in each bag), but am glad I had them handy.

It's our oldest grandson's 18th birthday today. When our boys were young we told them we would give them $1,000 on their 18th birthday if they did not smoke. When D was in his mid teens he cheekily started to say "Mum, that 'not having a smoke......does that include' " & I laughingly said, "Yes D, that includes a puff of a joint or any drugs". We didn't include alcohol. They both got to 18 & collected their $1,000 honestly. We told our grandkids we would do the same for them. I don't think A has ever been tempted. I put the money in his account this morning.

I think today will be a fairly quiet day. I didn't ride my bike yesterday but did go for a hike. G has a headache so I won't be doing much inside & it's a miserable day outside. I might have to re-read a book.

Aw, that's a really sweet present.

I love cosy days inside sometimes. Some hot tea or coffee and sitting under a blanket by the fire. Enjoy.

G has been in absolute agony now for about 24 hours & I have an appointment for him at the dentist at 12.30. It's the worst he has ever felt. Poor bugger! He has been in so much pain he has cried. 2 more hours before we leave. I think this tooth will have to go.

Some good news- I have lost half a kilo. I got on the scales expecting a gain for some reason & had lost! I haven't been eating much, because he can't but have been eating healthily & prob. 1300 cals a day over the weekend.

Tooth aches can be brutal. I've been there and really feel for him.
Great job on the weight loss
