Zephyr's diary take 2 -- don't think, just do it

Week 6 Day 1 continued

Good luck and have fun at your try outs :) and well done on your 5k run

thank you!

----------

well here's how the meals actually went today:
breakfast: green tea + oatmeal (and walnut) bars
lunch: a cup of leftover brown rice/stir fry/kalbi from last night
boxing team try out
post-workout: 1 boiled egg + apple + half a protein drink
boxing gym
post-workout/dinner: last cup of leftover brown rice/stir fry/kalbi from last night + the other half of protein drink

total calories: 1176

eating slowly really does help me to avoid eating too much. i'm sure the apple also helped to curb my hunger/appetite, too.

boxing team try out
the warm up part itself made me want to give up. a friend of mine thinks the reason why they are training the newbies so hard is to weed people out and make them give up. i was on the brink of just leaving, but i stuck with it.

warm up went something like this: run up and down this long flight of stairs about ten times (up + down count as 1), plank position until everyone yelled out their name and year, push up position where the "president of the boxing club" guy goes "downnnn *pause* up" and we had to count. we had to count EVERYTHING we did. if we weren't counting loud enough, he would say "START OVER BACK ON ONE." oh my god, i yelled like it was my last chance to use my voice. from the pushups, we did plank again until everyone yelled out their first AND last name AND their year. 200 jumping jacks, counting that aloud too. more leg raises, more planks, more push ups.. bear crawl, wheel barrow, burpees, etc etc..

oh and planks and pushups were all done on GRAVEL.

that was just the warmup...fun, NOT.

the group split in half and half of us got to the skills part and learned how to jab and do some footwork, which were easier for me because well, i'm in a boxing gym, so i already knew how to do them.

then, we switched with the other half of the group. this time it was running. we ran 2 miles in like 15 minutes, which was BRUTAL on my legs because i just finished the 5k yesterday.

then i went home to chill for a little bit before heading out for my boxing gym, where we did a whole lot of jogging (please, no more running) and stick works to work on our forms.

I AM POOPED.

good thing the boxing tryout is 3 times a week.. but it's TWO HOURS LONG EACH :willy_nilly: i hope i can survive this, i am NOT GIVING UP.

anyway, hope everyone else is doing great.

Wow what a motivational work out! And you have to do that 3 times a week?!? I'm sure the pounds will start to melt off you! Make sure you get lots of protein in and don't burn yourself out. Your doing so great and will be at your goal in no time. Keep it up and I look forward to reading more.:waving:

Don't forget to get adequate recovery both passive and active, a good recovery will help to avoid burnout.

Tomorrow will be week 7 day 1

It's that time of the month. ANNOYING. I am 139 pounds now, but I know it's probably just the whole water retaining thing. I'm trying to drink a lot of water so the water keeps flowing continuously throughout my body.

My boyfriend took me out on a surprise date yesterday. I had Thai chicken fried rice for dinner. We were going to do Red Robin, but the line was so long. It was a real disappointment, but I guess that saved a lot of calories. We went to watch Toy Story 1 and 2 in 3d! It was a double feature. He knows how much I love Toy Story. We ended up sharing a Fanta blueberry slushie and popcorn.. buttered and salted.

LOL
Oh dear..

Today was much healthier though. I slept in a lot, which isn't surprising when it's the time of the month. I just get so drowsy. I woke up at 2pm and got straight to cooking after getting ready. I made something called Turkey Swiss-Guac Burger, a recipe I found in "Eat This Not That" book that my boyfriend got from his mom for birthday. It's a really interesting book. One burger is 350 calories. I added in onions to my turkey patties. I also had corn chips, which I kind of regret because I had 2 servings and they are 280. I should have saved those calories or something.

Later in the day, I had a cup of brown rice with one turkey patty. I have several leftover patties, so at least I won't have to cook tomorrow.

Total calories: 1046

I am sipping on water as I type this. I have a weigh in on Thursday at my boxing gym. I am actually really, really nervous. I went up in weight last time.

I am going to work out super hard tomorrow during my boxing tryout and at my boxing gym. I need to do everything I can by Thursday. I am not going to slack off. I took Saturday a little easy because I've been feeling this annoying pain in my right shin. I took Sunday (today) off completely. I feel fine now. I just hate thinking that I should have worked out harder or I should have done this or that. No more though. No more excuses. I hate it when I do that.

Tomorrow's schedule --

Breakfast (9am): oatmeal with milk + green tea
Lunch (1pm): bagel with tuna
Class (1:30-3:20pm)
Snack (3:30pm): slice of bread (protein bread) with honey
Boxing tryout (4pm-6pm)
Snack (6:30pm): slice of bread (protein bread) with honey
Boxing gym (leave at 7pm & i don't get back home until 10pm)
Dinner (10pm): a cup of brown rice with turkey patty

Total calories: 1348

Goal: drink 3-4 bottles of water (I have a 24 oz water bottle)

Okay, that was a long post. Good night.

Week 7 Day 1

Wow so I slipped up on my meal plan.

The plan was --
Breakfast (9am): oatmeal with milk + green tea
Lunch (1pm): bagel with tuna
Class (1:30-3:20pm)
Snack (3:30pm): slice of bread (protein bread) with honey
Boxing tryout (4pm-6pm)
Snack (6:30pm): slice of bread (protein bread) with honey
Boxing gym (leave at 7pm & i don't get back home until 10pm)
Dinner (10pm): a cup of brown rice with turkey patty

Instead, I woke up at like twelve, haha..
"Breakfast/Lunch": green tea + a cup of rice + slice of spam
Snack: protein health bread + tuna
Boxing tryout
Snack: protein health bread + a little bit of honey
Boxing workout
Dinner: mondo burrito from taco del mar :leaving:

Yup, messed up on the dinner part. I was walking back home from the bus stop after my boxing workout when I stopped by the library to see my boyfriend and my friend. We were all hungry so we originally decided to get Chipotle :)o), but it was closed. Then we were going to get teriyaki, but that was closed too. So then we were walking back home when OH taco del mar is open, let's go there! So yeah..

BUT.. I skipped both the sour cream and guacamole and had chicken and wheat tortilla and pinto beans. I guess that sort of makes it "okay" ................... ANYWAY.

For boxing tryout, we spent like 45 minutes doing 340 burpees/leapers. Originally we were asked to do 200, but we stopped counting together after a while (and several times after too) which added up more. Then some of us weren't doing pushups when we got down or jumping when we got up or both which added a tons more. We did 140 extra.. We also did planks of course and a little bit of cardio because last week we did ALL cardio -- running up and down EVERY SINGLE STEP of the football stadium. Took like an hour and a half to do the entire stadium's stairs.

At my boxing gym, we did circuit training. We worked on doing different things on the punching bags, worked on our kicking, and footwork. We also did planks and burpees/leapers. Then we did some calm Tai Chi stuff at the end to cool down.

Think that's all I want to say.

Week 7 Day 2

THREE MORE DAYS UNTIL MY WEIGH IN!!! Including today.

Well, I failed my goal in drinking 3-4 bottles of water yesterday, haha, but today I'm going to do it. I think I'm off to a good start since I'm almost done with my green tea and am going to get some more.

I am currently eating a slice of bread with a little bit of honey on it. I have one more after this! It's so good.

Okay, back from getting more water in my tumbler for my green tea. I'm also on my second toast :)

Rough meal plan
Breakfast: green tea + 2 slices protein health bread + a little bit of honey
Snack: maybe cereal with milk???
Lunch: a cup of brown rice + a turkey patty
Snack: orange
Workout
Dinner: protein shake

I'm going to try get all my studying done earlier in the day so I can sleep early tonight. I know I'll be hungry after my protein shake so the best thing to avoid that is to sleep it off before I go into the kitchen and have a last-minute-before-bedtime food raid!

Yup, that's the plan for today.

Oh and drink water.

I don't have very many choices because I am running out of food! I need to make some time to go grocery shopping soon. I should be okay for the next week and a half though :coolgleamA:

Week 7 Day 3

Quick update before I leave for my boxing gym.

I drank TONS of water yesterday. I think drinking tea really helps me get my water intake. It's like I'm constantly sipping on it and when I run out, I make some more hot water.

Today's water intake was okay I guess. I had two tumblers of peppermint tea and I'm just about to finish my 24 oz water bottle that I'm going to fill up before my gym.

Boxing try out wasn't as brutal because I sat out for the last 45 minutes of it. The lower insides of both my shins were KILLING me. While everyone else was sprinting and doing stairs, I did body squats, leg lifts, pushups, situps, and a whole lot of stretching and massaging the shins. Of course my shins just had to act up right when boxing tryout got serious.

Breakfast: 2 protein health bread + honey + peppermint tea
Lunch: asian style plain noodle with a little bit of this random sauce I came up with LOL

I just ate another 2 protein health bread: one with honey and the other with a little bit of tuna. I'm probably going to have a protein shake after my workout or something. Or another protein health bread.

I guess I've been in the protein health bread mood these days.

Oh and weigh in's tomorrow.

Week 7 Day 4

I've got a weigh in tonight. I'm going to make sure I don't eat directly before heading out for my boxing gym. I'm going to stick to eating light, frequent meals today and drink plenty of water (or tea), but that again I won't do directly before my weigh in.

ROUGH meal plan--
Breakfast: a protein health bread + honey + green tea
Snack: boiled egg?
Lunch: Cereal.. (there's nothing to eat anymore haha grocery shopping soon..)
Snack: ???
Preworkout: oatmeal
Postworkout/dinner: protein shake?

There's barely anything to eat at my place except cereal, bread, and noodles. Bleh.

It's cold and rainy. Not really nice.

----------

Okay, here's a better view of my meal plan for the day

Breakfast (11am): green tea + 2 protein health bread + honey
Lunch (3pm): Special K Vanilla Almond cereal + reduced fat milk
Pre-workout (6pm): oatmeal with milk
Post-workout (9pm): protein drink

That's eating every 3-4 hours. I measured out a cup of cheerios in a tupperware to munch on during my class or when I'm studying in the library. I am making 2 boiled eggs to also take with me. I don't know what time I'll eat them so I didn't include it in the meal plan. I will be eating those some time throughout the day.

Total calories: 1260

Protein bread sounds good, but what is in it? I guess I could google it. Haha...but would love to know more. Sounds like a really interesting idea. I love bread but I am always scared of the carbs in them.

Also, amazing workouts!! You are such a hard worker- totally inspires me. And here I am being bratty about my weight not coming down when all I do is C25k and yoga every other day. Good luck Zephyr!

Hey! Thanks!

To be honest, I've never seen or heard of protein bread until my 5k run. They were giving out an entire loaf of protein bread! From what I understand, it's just regular bread but it has more protein in it (probably the little nuts in them). It's really good toasted.

I actually don't pay attention to the carbs. I try to just keep my fat intake down for now. I'm asian, I eat lots of rice.. Wait, I'm basically made out of rice! So carb is definitely something I can't completely cut out or limit too much.. for now anyway.

Also, the main important thing is that you're out there and moving! That in itself is inspiring! Seriously! It's so hard for me to get out in the cold to exercise.. but I do it because I have to.

Keep on doing what you're doing!

Week 7 Day 5

THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY!

No boxing gym today, I'm taking a break. I still have boxing try out.

About yesterday..
Well, I have good news, bad news 1, bad news 2, and a thank-god-whew news.

Good news: I dropped from 138 lbs to 136 lbs.
Bad news 1: I realized I started off at the gym at 134, so I'm heavier compared to the very first day! Sadness :(
Bad news 2: I came back home at 10pm and had to pull a semi all nighter working on a paper that was due the next day (today). While working on it, I got hungry and ordered pizza .. and cheese sticks .. and just gulped them down. I felt so horrible afterward both physically and mentally. Whew.. lesson learned.
Good news: I weighed myself this morning to see if the pizza affected me and I'm 136.2 pounds. Thank god, I thought I was going to be 140.

Okay, gotta get ready for class.

Hey, don't beat yourself up Zeph, I had a pizza slip last night too! *hugs*

As far as the weight gain, you're probably putting on some muscle from all that boxing, yeah?

Keep up the good work!!!

:gnorsi:

Bread with nuts does sound yummy! I can see why you are hooked!

I hear ya on not being able to totally cut carbs. I used to worry about that a lot, coz most Indian food is laden with carbs. I try to avoid it as much as I can but it is absolutely impossible to cut it. Plus I do like the Basmati rice and chapatis they have. :)

How was Halloween? I was sick with flu. Drank a lot of soup and watched a lot of movies.

I *hope* I'm gaining muscle! I think it's becoming more noticeable. I used to not like my arms, but now I can't stop looking the mirror to check them out HAHA I just hope that doesn't make me sound like a vain muscle man!!

Oh man.. Halloween. Bigggggggg diet/exercise failure LOL but it was worth it to be honest.. :blush5: I hope you recover from the flu soon! :( It must be terrible.. drink lots of water as well!

Week 8 Day 1

Okay, so we all know it was Halloween.
Yes, I haven't updated.
Yes, I haven't been logging my food online.
Yes, it was an exercise & diet failure.

BUT IT WAS WORTH IT!

For the last couple of weeks, I have been working out five times a week for at least two hours each. I have also been working on midterm papers and cramming and etc. It was so great to get out there and party for once, haha, so party I did.

Last Saturday, I actually woke up to head for my boxing gym, but my stomach started cramping up and gurgling like mad! I went back to bed hoping it would go away and wake up a little later in time to catch my bus to the gym, but when I did, it was still hurting, so I ended up taking some Tums and going back to bed :( I feel HORRIBLE skipping on my workout, but it's going to be the first AND last time I skip!

Okay, food stuff. I don't remember exactly what I ate over the weekend, but here's the gist of it. Taco bell, taco bell, leftover pizza, gyros, chicken, some eggs/sausage stuff, sloppy joe, jo jo potatoes.. not very good. My brother wants to get lunch today though and I haven't seen him in a long time so I think I'm going to let myself slip up one more time. Then it's back on track.

The good news is, despite the damage I've been doing to my diet and exercise plan, I still weigh 136.

Thank god.

By the way, for Halloween, I was a reinvented & much improved version of my middle school self. A gangster! HAHA.. Yeahhhh.. Anyway. The second picture with the guy in the black shirt is NOT my boyfriend, just sayin'

These pictures will be removed in a day or two.

Woo! Nice job on the weight loss :) and like maverick said, don't beat yourself up about being (only 2 pounds!) heavier than you were when you joined the gym. Turn it into a POSITIVE - you weigh less than you did the last time you weighed yourself!

Thanks Sarah! That is a great way to think of it.. I have to be glad that I am losing weight. At least I didn't gain any more pounds :)

Well, boxing try out was a BIG FAT FAILURE! The thing is, I have to leave for my boxing gym almost immediately after the boxing try out. Today, the president of the club told the try out members, "if you have to leave early, might as well leave right now because we're running to Gas Works Park and finishing up the training there."

It's a 2 mile run to the park from the university gym. The try out is 2 hours long. After the try out is a 2 mile run back to the gym to pick up our stuff. It's another 20 minutes walk from the gym to the bus stop I need to get to in order to head to my boxing gym.

So I left. Otherwise I would be too cramped for time and might miss my bus. Sigh.

Oh and on top of THAT, I have this painful bump/lump on the bottom of my foot! It didn't hurt at first, but it's getting bigger and bigger. It's been about a month and a half and it just started hurting rapidly a week or two ago! I called the doctor and will see him on Thursday. I am going to ask him to stab the lump and pop it with a needle or something. So sick of walking on the side of my foot.. which only gave rise to my shin splint.

Awful..

Oh well, can't get to down in the dump about it. Must let myself heal when I need to.

Week 8 Day 1

Looks like week 8 is off to a bad start. Right before leaving for my boxing gym, I remembered I had this online quiz to do before the professor closed it off. So here I am typing this out, hoping my guilt doesn't get too bad. I feel so guilty not going to my workout on Saturday and missing basically two workouts today.

Well, time to do my quiz..

I feel so horrible.
I feel like I failed myself.
