Women workout question

Ok so myself and my friend had a discussion on women lifting weights and I showed him the sticky on this forum to back up my points but then he stumped me with this, so any insight would be really appreciated:) We were talking about woman not getting 'big' from working out, I was aying of course they should train in the same way men do because hormonally they cant reach the same size as guys without testosterone boosters etc..

He said though that they should only lift, low weights for high reps because this triggers slow twitch muscle growth and these are the muscles you see on dancers for example and thats the type of physique women aspire to look like.

Any insights?

I don't believe a fast twitch muscle fiber grows differently and will make the muscle look different than if you focused on making slow twitch muscle fibers grow. (also, you have to activate slow twitch in order to activate fast twitch, but that's another story)

Not all women want to look like dancers. I could go and get lots of pictures from various female athletes that do lift heavy and show how their physique is not bulky and still look very feminine.
You should ask him how and why slow twitch muscle fibers grow differently than fast twitch muscle fibers. If he can't back up his argument with some knowledge and facts then his argument is pretty much invalid.

Well the point he made was that fast twitch muscles are what you see on sprinters and slow twitch is what you you see on long distance runners for exmaple, so I'm not sure its not a case how they grow differently but their appearance?

sprinters have bigger muscles and have very low BF so those muscles show. If you train to stimulate your fast twitch fibers you won't become like that over night. It takes many years of hard work.
