Summary: Documentary not very sympathetic to the overweight / obese. Interviewer sort of incredulous every time he says "obese". Lots of pictures of fat peoples' bodies without faces shown. Lots of pictures of people stuffing themselves with junk food. Also, documentary covers too much ground in 1 hour. No subject really gone into in depth. Didn't learn much except in pharmaceutical segment. Also, didn't like that captions were not on screen with interviewees' names. Had to guess at spelling.

Want2Lose, thanks for leaving a message in my journal.

And you have done SUCH an amazing job. I think you are the first person whose journal i've read who has gone so far down from their initial goal weight and has maintained. And you know what is so cool about you, you don't really care too much for the numbers. You write if you lose, but don't really obsess over them or make a very big deal when you lose (or gain, not that you hv gained after starting your journey). I really really like it. You are sooo totally zen about. I would loooove to be like you.

Good luck with the maintainance, you are such a motivated person. I am gonna come to visit you more often. I hope your coolness rubs off on me. :)

There are some new vendors at our local open-air market this year -- hot dogs and mini donuts. It kind of clashes with the natural, organic vibe of the place.

How do you do 10,000 steps? I was inspired by you and wanted to do 10,000 steps yesterday when I went for a walk- mustve walked about 1 hr 15 mins and my steps were less than 5,000. When I run for about 35 mins and walk another ten mins i make about 8000 steps. Do you track your steps all day, or do you actually take long (2-2.5 hr) walks. I want to get into walking because I have always thought it is the best way to get fit. Would loove to learn more.

Great job on the pushups!! Hope you are having an amazing weekend!

Hello, juni. I try to make 10,000 steps my goal for all day. I take my first walk in the morning and get anywhere from 3,000 to 6,000 steps, depending on how early I get started. I can usually count on another 2,000 steps at work, and then I just walk in the evening until I reach 10,000. I can walk about 1,000 steps in 10 minutes, so this is about an hour and a half total to make my 10,000 steps.

I dislike most kinds of strenuous exercise. Walking has been great for me because it's not too hard, but seems to keep the weight off.

Menu
Breakfast: Egg plus egg white (cooking spray) on two corn tortillas, salsa
Snack: Fruit (cantaloupe, kiwis, strawberries); green tea
Lunch: Swiss chard and bitter melon (garlic, ginger, cooking spray, low-sodium soy sauce); salad (lettuce, parsley, radishes, tomato, lemon juice, rice vinegar, honey mustard dressing)
Snack: Iced green tea
Dinner: Salmon; bok choy with garlic and tomates; baked potato (salt, pepper); rhubarb stewed in red wine with honey
Snack: Popcorn (salt, cooking spray); two pieces hard candy

Exercise
Walked 10,000 steps; 10 push-ups

I had a couple bad days. Lots of processed foods, night binging. I am becoming convinced that it's diet sodas that set me off. Something about that artificial sweetener makes me so hungry. I have heard other people say the same, but I don't know how it works.

It's tough because we have a fridge full of diet soda at work, and on Thursday I was so tired I was falling asleep at my desk. Next time have tea!

I went to the open air market yesterday. I now have 8 kinds of greens in my refrigerator. I also got strawberries and radishes.

1. Mixed salad greens
2. Radish greens
3. Turnip greens
4. Chard
5. Rapini
6. Bok choy
7. Kale
8. Mustard greens

Menu
Breakfast: Four corn tortillas with almond butter, vanilla soymilk with cinnamon, strawberries
Snack: Green tea
Lunch: Stew (tempeh, bitter melon, bok choy, rapini, garlic, tomatoes, cayenne)
Snack: Rice with salsa, 7 french fries, salad (lettuce, tomato, lime), raw vegetables, strawberry
Dinner: Smoked oysters, baked potato with salsa and broccoli
Snack: Pocorn with sunflower seeds (salt, cooking spray); honey

What a fantastic approach to fitness (as opposed to conventional work-out-all-you-can approach). I do not like strenuous fitness related exercise and have always been SUCH a big fan of walking (my dad lost a ton of weight walking when he was diagnosed with diabetes more than 20 years ago and has been able to keep the weight off by walking EVERYDAY since) I never thought about fitness that that way (although my father had successfully done it)--thank so much for answering my question. I think I'm gonna steal your idea and incorporate that in my daily schedule too. The key is to be consistent like you and 10,000 steps is no joke. You are burning a lot of calories and making your body really happy.

I love reading your journal. Keep up the good work. Hope you are having a lovely weekend.

I was thinking about you today when I was running. I walked another 20 mins extra to see what happens on my pedometer and let me tell you both my body and my pedometer loved it. Successfully logged 8,100 steps. I am gonna break walking to two sessions tomorrow-- morning before the sun gets too hot and again in the evening. Hopefully I can do 10,000 tomorrow. :)

Looks like you are back on track with food today. Yay!

Hi Want2lose.

What kind of corn tortillas do you eat. ie brand etc.

I need to find a pic of them to picture this staple of your diet. They must be good...hope I can fit them in to my plan.

Have a great day!

Way to go with the pedometer, juni! Once I got in the 10,000 step habit it became almost second nature.

Hello, Flumes. The corn tortillas are the El Milagro brand. They are small, about 3 or 4 inches in diameter, and 50 calories each. I eat them because I am gluten-free and they make a good substitute for bread.

Menu
Breakfast: Four corn tortillas with peanut butter; water melon
Snack: Apple with peanut butter
Lunch: Hard-boiled egg, butternut squash, cherry tomatoes, cayenne
Snack: Raisins and walnuts
Dinner: Salad (kidney beans, rapini, sauerkraut, red onion, olive oil)
Snack: Cherries, mixed berries (blackberries, raspberries, blueberries), 10 almonds

Exercise
Walked 10,000 steps; 10 push-ups
