Valapalooza's Diary

I agree, If I eat eggs in the AM and then try to have extra protien at lunch or as a snack (like part skim string cheese, or all natural peanut butter on celery) I do better then If I had cereal and toast at breakfast and low fat crackers at snack. OKAY, OKAY...I have been bad about this lately and I have noticed a difference...you have officially kicked my rear into gear..THANKS:eek: !

Thanks for the advice everyone- I think that maybe I need to reevaluate my eating habits during the day because it always at dinner time that I feel most tempted to screw up. I always eat a bowl of cereal for breakfast (this week is Special K)- and I always bring a low calorie lunch to work (soup, a Lean Cuisine, steamed veggies, etc.) and I usually bring a piece of fruit or two and either a 100 calorie pack or rice cakes or whatever. Regardless, when I am on my way home from work I am SOOOOO hungry; and that's when it's easiest to make poor decisions. Maybe I'll try something new tomorrow and see if it helps...

I know what you mean about dinner/evening eating...

It doesn't help that I'm 17 and live at home - dinner's the one meal I have to eat with the family (meaning the one meal I kind f have to eat what they eat)...it's not that my mom cooks unhealthy stuff (and we always eat homecooked meals at home, we never eat out)...it's just that she's an amazing cook and I LOVE her food...and she sometimes makes homemade desserts...all that time sitting and talking with my family is just conducive to overeating :(

None of them have health/weight problems though (2 parents, 2 younger brothers). They just have whatever they want and stop when they're full...I don't know how to do that:mad:

yeah dinner time must be hard for ya. I think oatmeal in the morning kinda stick to the ribs longer, helps to make you feel full during the day. Try drinking a full glass of water before you sit down to eat that might help to not feel as hungry.

Worst case senario, you do all the talking at dinner so you don't have time to eat :D

I know how you feel about eating in the evening, i can eat very little but by about 5pm i could eat anything and everything. I have found that eating more protein in the morning does help, but maybe you just get hungry at that time regardless of what you eat, on thursdays our school timetable is different and regardless what i have for breakfast i am always starving by the end of french. You could try taking an extra snack especially for the ride home then you can resist the temptation to eat rubbish. Hope u are having a good day!

You guys are so great- I just want to let you guys know how good it makes me feel when I jump on here and get to read advice from people who actually care. I LOVE it. I've gotta run so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to check on all of your diaries- but I just wanted to say thanks.

(PS- biked for 4.5 miles today and then walked a mile to cool down... first time I've been on my bike since September. It felt good!)

Yeaahh!!! You rock valapalooza!! :D

Hey, buddy :) Way to go on the EXERCISE! I have GOT to start doing that.

As for over-eating in the evenings, just try various things until you find something that works. Extra protien is a good starting point. Add a bit to lunch, too--yogurt, peanut butter, low-fat cheese or maybe some turkey breast with your veggies.

If that doesn't work, look at your carbs. Are the "100-caolrie packs" you mention cookies or something else with sugar and/or white flour? If so, you may be experiencing low blood sugar by the time you get home. Try cutting out the sugar and white flour and replacing them with whole grains: some whole-wheat crackers, a small whole-wheat tortilla stuffed with fruit, veggies or sandwich fillings, or whole grain bread with a little reduced fat peanut butter. There are lots of choices.

You can also try eating something healthy and filling BEFORE supper. Studies have shown that eating soup before meals reduces your total calorie intake; just make sure you chose one low in fat and calories. Or munch celery or carrots while you fix supper--or drink a V8 (the tomato version, not the sugar-filled Splash drinks). If you time them about 20 minutes before supper, you won't be so hungry when it's time to sit down.

THe most important thing is to keep working at finding what works for you. You are so motivated, I'm sure you'll find the key.

Okay- I think I have regained some of my motivation! YAY!

Last night after my 4.5 mile bike ride and 1 mile walk- I came home and made my bf do an arm workout with me and then did crunches on the fitness ball. I made my bf try to do crunches on the ball too because he has the weakest abs ever. I also showed him "The 100" pilates move and I was cracking up as he tried it with me- his face was so red I thought it was going to explode. Working out with him has shown me that I actually do have a considerable amount of muscle... it's just hidden underneath a bunch of fat :(

This morning I actually woke up when my alarm went off for the first time this week- I hopped on my bike for another 2 mile ride, but MAN did my butt feel sore. I forgot about how sore your butt is the first few times you ride your bike. YIKES! I don't think I'll be taking another ride tonight... my butt just isn't up to it :)

Since I am one of those people addicted to weighing- I jump on the scale every morning before my shower. It has been stuck at the same exact number (to the decimal place and all) for the past three days. I wish I could say it was my scale, but I'm sure it's just me. I don't move my ticker until Mondays and I just have to say it BETTER have moved by then- lol

I tried the eggs for breakfast this morning and I brought my normal cereal and a pear as snacks for the workday. We'll see if it helps me avoid the 5PM hunger today. Dinner is going to be salmon, organic rice and cucumbers... I LOVE salmon. Mmmmm

yay for refinding your motivation!!!

And goodfor you for getting your boyfriend moving... :) Strong abs prevent back problems down the road... so it's good you're trying to movitivate him...

mmmm salmon... yum..

Isn't exercise more fun when you have someone there with you? Well, it is for me at least. Though sometimes it is nice to just have that time to yourself and think.

Don't bother with what the scale says...just think of it as that deceiving and gossipy friend who doesn't always get the story right...if you feel good about what you're doing then you're doing great. Easier said than done..right?

And Salmon...is amazing. I'm jealous. We get lots of salmon around here but for some reason we never make it...it's sooooo good. Haha.

Hope the rest of your day goes well!

Mmmm....I love salmon as well....I actually think my mom's making salmon today :D (with lemon and a salad)

Congrats on the biking! The soreness will go away...I tend to wait till its gone and then excercise again = stupid, because I get sore all over again

biking's got to be one of the best ways to exercise. Low impact, and it never gets boring.......for me at least. Good luck with the after work hunger today, let us know how that goes.

I'm right there where you are. It's all I can do to keep myself off the scale every morning. I don't dare join that weigh on Fridays only club cause I know I'd fail. ;) Just don't let it drive you crazy since your weight does fluctuate a little up and down during the week. :D

So, part of my transistion to eating better was that I stopped going out to lunch while I'm at work- it is probably an easy thing to do at most offices, but not mine. Today there aren't too many people in, so a partner stopped by and asked if a few of us wanted to go get lunch. Seeing as how we are the low people on the totem pole, we are not going to pass up going to lunch with the partner... even if we do want to eat healthy.

So the problem is that he doesn't chose a restaurant with anything healthy to eat- he picked a Chinese place. Yikes. I really wanted to get Sweet and Sour Chicken or General Tao's Chicken- but since both are breaded and have heavy sauces I realized that was a bad idea. I ended up getting the Pepper Steak- but it still had some unknown sauce on it and I still ate a little bit of the rice. Ugh- I am SO not having my midafternoon snack now. Good thing dinner is salmon :( but I'm cutting out the rice.

Well done on the bike ride. I know how it feels with exercise, i dont particularly enjoy it when i am doing it but that feeling after is always amazing, when you really feel you have achieved something. Keep up the good work i hope you are having a great day!

you're doing great with the exercise. I think it's great you get your bf to work out with you.

Don't worry about lunch, and don't skip the snack, eating something through out the day keeps the metabolism up. You are getting enough exercise in so you'll be ok.
