Tomble's Weight Loss Journal! I welcome your opinions!

Just dropped in to see how your doing, Tomble - and I see it's pretty good!

I love moving down those belt notches - I even had to buy a new belt last week! But I made sure it was a cheap one as I don't plan to use it for long ;)

Mmmm, the new menu sounds kind of, crispy! lol. Reminds me of the cuisine you get over here off the barbie - as a nation, we never did quite master that particular Aussie import! :D :D

That's so awesome Tomble! I know what you mean about the belt "progress meter".... it's an EXCELLENT sign of progress!!! I had to cut a hole in my belt a while ago...it's the most amazing feeling dude! Good job!

I'm looking forward to breaking out the hole cutting tools and venturing into new belt hole territory! One more hole left, will I need it by the end of the year? I hope so!!!

Hiya Stan! I won't be buying a new belt until this one breaks, it's an old companion and has seen much use :)

I'm not surprised about the barbie foods, they are MEANT to be blackened on the outside. You dull the taste down with too much tomato sauce, too much beer and mild sunstroke. It's traditional!

You can do it man... good luck! What time is it over there?

Well right now it's 4:38pm on Thursday. Don't know where you are exactly so I can't work out the actual time difference.

Edit : From reading your diary, I am guessing you are in Florida? If so, we are 16 hours ahead here.

So... 16 hours ahead huh? How's the future? LOL What are you doing for exercise? Always looking for ways to augment my routine to make the weight go down faster!

Hi Tomble!! Just wanted to pop in and say keep up the great work!! :D:D:D
Oh and I know I'm a bit late... but love the new avatar.. nice. ;)

Well, I'd tell you what's happening in the future, but then I'd have to silence you somehow. Oh no wait, I don't have to because of the... oh, never mind, you'll find out in about 11 hours. :p (Sorry for the grim humour :D Hee hee!)

My primary exercise is walking, which is something I actively enjoy. Put a good audio book or podcast on my mp3 player, grab my dog and head on out. When I've got spare time I sometimes like to walk as far as I can, which in the past has meant over 10 hours in one long full-day walk. It takes me an hour and fifteen minutes to walk to or from work, and that burns around 500 calories. I try and do that as often as possible.

Other than that, my work is fairly physical, with quite a bit of lifting and carrying, so that keeps me going as far as strength. I keep meaning to do some weights, but I keep not getting around to it.

Okay, so I was 107kg (235lb) yesterday morning. I had a long day at work, ate normally, and walked home. Had dinner, looked at some stuff online and went to bed.

Stepped on the scales this morning.

105kg!!! (231lb). I lost 2kg in a DAY!! WHa?!?!? How!?!!

Woohooo!

Tonight being junk food night, I expect it will go up a bit tomorrow, but I was pretty stunned!

I was eating breakfast this morning - a bowl of All Bran. It used to taste incredibly boring to me, as I was eating it today I was thinking `this is sooo sweet!'. Looked on the packet, and sugar is ingredient number 2. My tastebuds have become highly sensitive to sugar since I stopped eating it.

I honestly don't know how it happened! Friday is usually my lowest day because friday night is (drumroll) Junk Food Night. Aww yeah :)

It takes me 15 minutes to drive to work as well, though it's not freeway driving. I guess it depends on how fast you walk, how hilly it is, how hot the weather is. I tend to underdress where possible, and if it's cold I walk faster :) The 10 hour walk was a result of me having a whole day off, my partner was away, my friends were busy and my feet said `let's go!'. I had a good audio book too, so I listened to the entire thing in one hit.

I know what you mean about the 10 hour walk thing =D Before I burnt out, I used to go running for hours. No sunscreen, and in summer, it couldn't have been good for my skin >_o

Great job on the weight lost! It's soo hard to stop eating sugar... How did you do it!? That's where all of my daily calories come from >_> I wish that I could be more healthy like you.

Keep up the good work! I'll keep checking in on your diary, it's a good read ^_^

I wear a hat, and lots and lots of sunscreen. All my ancestry goes back to the fair skinned european types, so the Australian sun is not my friend!

Thanks so much! I suspect that most of my weight gaining calories were coming from sugary snacks. I really just bit the bullet and stopped buying sugary stuff. I didn't eat sugary cereal for breakfast, nor do I drink coffee with sugar, or even soft drinks with sugar, so once I cut out the snacks it was okay.

I basically started shopping once a week, and banned myself from buying sugary things. I stopped carrying money to work to avoid the temptation of buying delicious but high calorie snacks, and I got rid of anything sugary in the house to prevent random snacking. After a week or two everything evened out and the cravings went away. Eating that amount of sugar is far from natural, and your body will settle down after a while.

Then when you eat something slightly sweet, WOW, it tastes amazing! I have actually stopped wanting sugary things almost entirely, although I enjoy the occasional treat (which is what sugary things should be - an occasional treat).

Keep up the good work! I'll keep checking in on your diary, it's a good read ^_^

Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed the read, I'm enjoying making the acquaintance of so many people who share the `battle of the bulge' :)

I don't even know my ancestry, but I tan deeply (or used to... I'm pretty afraid of the sun now, lol) and have blonde hair. Good for you with the hats and sunscreen though, I need to start wearing a hat again, now that my mom isn't here to snatch it off me and tell me that only old ladies wear hats, haha.

It's hard not to buy sugary things here, since you eat in a cafeteria and they're sitting right next to the healthy things o_o And nothing's that healthy, anyway. I should go to the store only and ban myself from the cafeteria!

I'm not actively trying to lose weight (though honestly, it wouldn't be unwelcome if I did), but I'm afraid that these years of consuming hundreds of grams of sugar per day will seriously damage my health in the future... I'm legally an adult now, it's time I started to take care of myself!

What about sugars found in things like fruit popsicles? They're pretty sweet, so I'm not sure, but they're low in calories... Then again, a bad calorie can be worse than two good ones.

Sorry for talking about me so much in your diary, I've just always wanted to try cutting sugars, and it's great to hear from someone who actually has. That whole 'in moderation' thing just doesn't seem to work because you always want more, more, more :(

I agree that added sugars aren't natural... Evil companies putting so much in food -__-

Hope you have a great day today, tell us all about it when you get back to the forums =D I'll try no-sugar tomorrow and will tell you how it goes, you can be my mentor if you want, lol.

That's a good walk regiment man! With the temp down here... I couldn't even begin to think about walking that far. It is cooling down, but I have little time in my day as it is! It's pretty flat here (save for the overpass for the highway).... Still...good job man! I weigh in on Monday Morning so..I'll let you know what I'm at then!

I don't know where you live, but in Australia there's a lot of public awareness about skin cancer and reducing sun exposure. A combination of a lot of sun, a culture of beach going and a majority of fair skinned people has given us a huge skin cancer rate!

Consider making yourself lunches. I know buying stuff is easier, but what you make at home is SO much better for you. I've got one of those bread making machines, and a nice sandwich is a good lunch. Also leftovers, or sometimes I make a big pot of pasta, and take some of that every day. I can end up spending less than $2.00 for lunch every day!

This was one of my strongest motivating factors - how much damage am I doing to myself? Will 50 year old me despise 30 year old me for not having any restraint?

I guess it depends on the source of the sweetness. HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup) is evil stuff, and is in everything. Also, sometimes a product will say `sugar free' but have concentrated pear juice in it, which is extremely sugary, but not classed as refined sugar.

Happy to have you posting here! I'm pretty pleased that I've inspired someone to be healthier, because most of my life I think I've been a good example of what not to do!

It's a lot of walking, and I love every bit of it! A couple of years ago I started logging how far I walked every day, and it was amazing how quickly it racked up. I stopped doing that a while ago, but I have just ordered a little wrist sized GPS that tracks how far you walk and logs it automatically, so I'm going to start doing it again!

I don't have kids, so my household commitments are much less than yours, and my only dependant (a dog) loves to come for walks with me, so it's no problem.

If you're looking for a good way to burn some extra calories, try the running program. Takes half an hour every second night, and gets you jogging without too much struggle. I've been enjoying it, and I've NEVER been a runner. I have new muscles in weird places on my legs now :)

Hello! I haven't stopped in here before But I have seen you other places. Want to help cheer you on. You sound very level headed, so it looks like you will make it!!:)
