This Trucker Fights Back

Cheers to starting a new program!

Walked 3 miles this morn, took the bike out for its 'official' shakedown run. I drove it by car over to the trail because I didn't know what to expect. The trail is relatively flat (or at least when I walked it felt like it was). About the 7 mile mark I had to stop and get off the bike and walk around and shake off the ass soreness and stuff. I can see this is going to take some time to build up steam as I expected. I was silently doing some wishful thinking that all this walking was going to be a 'short cut' but wow this is a totally different animal

I'll probably feel it in the morning.

geez, that's quite a story.

i've never had a decent bike, so i guess that's why i never got in to it much. plus it's not a very bike friendly town here.

good luck. i'll keep reading to watch your progress.

Thank you Patty. You know me, always a story... hehe.

After 20 years off, I'm not sure if a 'decent' bike means much, it's the damn muscles (or lack of) that counts !! lol.

I can easily see your area not being much of a cycling town - bummer.

I love your biking everywhere idea...the only man I ever knew in my entire life who lost a substantial amount of weight (about 150lbs I guess) and has kept if off for nearly 10 years did exactly that...he bought a bike and just used it as his only means of transportation...when he first started everyone (sorry to say including me:eek: ) was convinced he was crazy and it wasn't going to last...but he rode that darn thing everywhere and went from very obese to very lean in the process. He was even featured on some show about people who lost weight in "unusual" ways...

Nice inspirational story cym. I'm not sure if our local 24/7/365 cyclist were attached to weight loss or DUI's. We do have a couple of those in our town - rain, snow or sleet, you name it, they ride in it.

I'm not sure I have the determination for all that but I have been toying with the idea. If I didn't live on a big ass hill and all the stores were closer I'd do it.

Randy, I used to love biking -- did it for about an hour a day, and lost tons of weight doing it. I had to stop when I got a herniated disc in my neck and couldn't hold my head in that position for more than a few minutes. I bet you'll really enjoy it.

ugh, sorry to hear about the bum disc - that really blows. I hope the 'enjoy' part comes around, I'm sure I will 'er too long.

ROTFLMAO Randy, jeezzzuzz man thats one hell of a bike story.. I wish it would stop raining so i could go for a walk.. Randy u wanna fix up my bike for me.. LOL firefighters are infront of my house.. DRAMA.. :p

I remember when I could give you a run for your money in the Drama Dept. :p Rain does NOT cancel walks SP, get your ass out there and move it missy

Yes, I'll fix your bike. All I need to know is when you're bringing it to Penna.

I have a bike and I will bike where there is NO traffic....and that is it. Maybe its a big city thing....but IMHO, bikes should be allowed on sidewalks...because it is too dangerous on the road and few people are out walking on the sidewalks anyway....at least here in cali.

I agree on accounts Beth. One would have to be nutso to bike in big cities especially in Cali !! You might as well tow a pine box behind you while you're at it, eh ?? :p

I  living in 15K population town :)

I want to riiide my bicylce I want to ride my bike.

Keep up the good work Randy.

I saw Queen on tour the year they released The Game (1980) at the Civic Arena. Of all 145+ concerts I've been to, none were better than Queen - ever.

Thanks for the memory :) and the kudo. Keep yourself alive Cannon. (I couldn't resist)

Bike = OUCH!

Still it's a great move. I bet you'll be singing the song with heart in a little while.
(I love Queen, too).

Mother Nature - You Bitch !!

After seeing the devastation in Greensburg Kansas on TV this morning it just refortifies how precious every day is. I'm sitting here jaw-dropped watching the footage with a sinking heart and wondering how all those people will put it all back together. *literally shaking head here*

Well heading out for an hour walk and then I'm volunteering my body for some manual labor at our local race track. The owner, who I've known for many years, is trying to restore the facility on a shoe-string budget so what the hell, a good day to work on the tan, get a lil exercise and have some fun - it's clearly too nice out to sit behind a monitor here anyway.

Taking today off of the bike and letting the Palmer's cocoa butter do its job. At least I can see where I'm applying it these days ;) instead of 'guessing' where to put it on :) Being sore has never been so rewarding :p

Gotta go !! I have to squeeze in a Kentucky Derby party in today too  NO mint juleps here !!

Just think how good your legs and butt will look after you've been on that bike a few months.... The soreness will be worth it.

It sounds like you have a great day planned. It must be nice to know that you are so well able to help out at the race track these days. I hope you enjoy the sunshine too.

For your first real bike ride that was quite a distance you went yesterday. I guess the need for cocoa butter goes right along with the effort. Here's hoping it gets you back in the saddle asap. :)

You have a busy day planned Randy, but it sounds like a great one too! Yay, the Derby (I'm a Kentucky native!) So much is going on today... Have a wonderful weekend!

Thank you Bethann :) I had a great weekend. I woulda never guessed in 100 years you were a native Kentuckian !?!? Perhaps that west coast living 'refined' you some ?? (just pokin' fun here)

Amidst a busy weekend, I did get back in the saddle last night. I went to a BBQ at my sis' and since I have to pass the trail on the trip I thought what a good opportunity to pack the bike in the car and stop and do 9 miles on the way home and burn off some off that good eats :)

Hey randy have a good day hun, u deserve it.. Keep up the good bum work out and hey when its all over and done i wanna see it..

ok, I owe you a future mooning  (_l_)

Enjoy your day Randy!

Debi !! hey rocker chick. You guys cut your first demo over the weekend ?? I hope your weekend was a great one :)

How was your day Randy? Bit of a bummer here, it's been cloudy and/or raining for a few days now. :(

ugh, that's not fun :( Sending you some forum sunshine dear :)

Hullo Beautiful. Hope your Sunday is great.

Awww thanks beckster. I hope you had an eventful and energetic weekend too !!

Hey Randy! Happy weekend.

Hi Cannon. Since I'm doing a cold read and haven't lurked in other diaries yet, I hope when I get to yours I see great thing happening - not that I think I won't, I just hope this one was a brilliant weekend for you.

Kick ass man !!

+++++++++++++++++++++

Well I went to the race track and no one showed up so I parleyed that time into a walk. It was kinda disappointing that someone would put out a public cry for help and not even show up himself.

The derby party was the bomb. I got totally shit-faced on wine and weed. I only ate the barest of minimums in food. I had to be driven home later that night *chuckles* The good news is I walked 4 miles (multiple elevations on this walk) the next morning to go get my car. Nice way to kick a hang over.

Then I came home and mowed my lawn - a first for me since 1999 !! and honestly, as intimidating as my property is, it wasn't as bad on me as I thought it would be. I worked up a good sweat and no doubt lost a lb. maybe. There isn't a level spot on my yard. I can't wait to mow it again - honestly.

This week starts house cleaning. Cheap entertainment and a reasonable workout to keep me busy for a day or three. I'm going to re-arrange stuff and get ready to paint by months end - I hope.

Having passed the 14 month mark, I just can't contain my grin. Still fast-food free, still slimming down, doing task I use to hold my head in shame in knowing I wouldn't even attempt and the list goes on and on. Most noticeably is the energy. It's to the point where if I don't have something to do (and I don't mean being on a pc) I'm pretty much annoyed. I really need to come to a conclusive decision about my next move in life. I feel like 'the world is my oyster' right now but I haven't jumped out of the boat yet and just sitting here with scuba gear on wasting precious oxygen.

blimming fantastic. it made me giggle reading that post! its fab to see youre actually enjoying doing things such as mowing the lawn because you CAN do it :) well done you

Yeah you should figure out what you want. We never know how long our life will last! Hope you are having good weather. We are having flood watches and have been , hope not right now, tornado watches. I kept my kids home from school. If something should happen I am not relying on a teacher to take care of my children! Well have agood day cleaning house, that is what I am planning too!:p

Way to go on the walking where you had to go and the mowing workouts. This is coming back to the chores that used to be harder and finding them easier BIG TIME isn't it? :D

I so like your big grin! :D

Yeesh Mechelle, hope you all stay out of the flood zone !! Yeah I agree your kids are better off home at a time like that.

Hope you got all your cleaning done - if that's ever possible, it seems like there's never a shortage of replacement dirt in this world

Aaaah, from one grin to another :D Thank you Kerry *hugs* Need a yard boy by chance ?? I'm cheap (laborer) :p Commuting my be a problem though...

Hi Randy!

Loved your story about mowing your lawn....we tackled the yard here at our new place....and as I was industriously weeding, planting, and trimming out of control, overgrown plants with a pair of garden shears and pulling the hose around the yard to move the sprinkler and wet the grass well....I was alternately thinking..."this sucks"....and "this is really good for me...a good all over workout". :D

BTW.....I only appear to be refined...hahaha...you can take the girl outta the country, but you can't take the country outta the girl! ;)
