This ongoing Rolloercoaster needs to stop!! No more free rides!!

Hi Njoyabl

The date is the fruit of the date palm tree. It is a fruit with a stone or nut in it. When they are ripe and dried...its like eating pure sugar. And almost melt in your mouth.

Calorie count lists them at 500 calories per cup. I have one fruit...not one cup lol. They also have a fair amount of dietary fiber.

Again, I dont recommend eating them, but they are healthier than a candy bar.

Good luck.

Okay, thanks, I probably won't be eating them then, I wouldn't know what it looks like if I saw one!

Hey Njoyabl, I saw your other thread and backtracked to your diary page :) Started reading to catch up....wow about the bedbugs. I thought the exterminator was just taking advantage till I googled and realized there are bedbugs and this wasn't just dustmites.

Oh and another random comment, lol. I love Tetley tea too but since moving from the west coast to Ohio, I can't find it readily ;/. I switched to Lipton.

Anyway I had the same problems keeping up with a healthy eating plan when I was working and going to school but I didn't have a newborn on top of it. All I can say is wow your life is hectic and I'll think twice before I complain again, lol. I don't know if this will help at all but organization is always my downfall so I have to find tricks and tips to cope. I can't say I'm good about this all the time but when I am able to prepare stuff ahead for the week I find stuff alot easier. I've also discovered freezer cooking and wow does that make a difference. You'd be amazed what you can make and freeze ahead if you can even just get ONE day a month to do it. You and your sister could probably do it together even, let me know and I send recipes if you're interested.

As far as the cravings go, I used to have them really bad as well and I found having more protein helped and eating a substantial breakfast. I also used to buy these cans of "spirutien" at the health food store to make shakes out of that taste really good (banana orange is my fav). I used them for snacks, not meal replacements and I really felt better.

Of course since then, after years of being told there was nothing wrong with me stuff came to a head and they finally saw it in my blood sugar that there was something wrong, like I'd been saying. I had become low end diabetic and was diagnosed with insulin resistance so I'm taking metformin and the sugar cravings stopped. I also have pcos, which apparently goes hand in hand with the insulin resistance.

Not saying this is your issue but is it possible since this is a new thing that something else isn't going on? I'm not doctor but especially since you just recently had a baby, maybe you're deficient in something and that's setting off the cravings? I'd talk to a good doctor or nutritionist and see what they say. Hope you get to the bottom of it and find a solution though cuz cravings suck. And stress only increases it for sure.

Oh and I used to have my lunch stolen at work too at a previous job. Nothing worked so I started packing a mini ice chest, lol. Sometimes I still had to put a few things in the fridge but at least if it got taken I had something.

Sorry for the long rambly post :) Just alot of thoughts as I caught up on your diary, lol

I would love some recipes!! Don't worry about rambling, I love that you rambled (I feel special) LOL! Thanks for catching up on my diary and the tips. I've just had my physical, and I have never had blood sugar problems and anything like that. Not saying that it couldn't though, it does run in my family and my lil sister is boarder line diabetic, and has to watch her weight. I'm going to check out your diary now. Thanks again and see ya later!

It may be too hot for this right now but this used to be something I did alot. I googled and found this recipe with an added twist of stuffing them with raisins but you don't have to. There's tons variations online. If you were to find some lower cal vanilla ice cream this would be awesome. Somewhere on this forum I remember Mal posted a recipe where you just put apples with some oats and stuff on them in the oven or microwave. You can find tons of other stuff if you google "low cal dessert recipes". Lately I've been using weight watchers stuff to settle my sweet tooth.

Baked Apple Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

tart, firm and ripe apples such as Granny Smith, one for each person
raisins
ground cinnamon
grouond nutmeg (optional)

DIRECTIONS: Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees F. Using a sharp paring knife or (preferably) a coring tool, cut from the stem end down into the apple and remove the center core, and discard. Try to remove all the seeds and pith. Do not peel.

Place the apples in a baking dish that has a lip or sides. If the apple does not stand up, slice the bottom off enough to make a flat surface to sit on.

In a separate small bowl, toss a handful of raisins generously sprinkled with cinnamon and nutmeg if desired. Mix thoroughly. Then spoon the spiced raisins into the core cavity of each apple.

Bake the apples in the oven for about half an hour. To check whether or not it is done, carefully pierce an apple with your fork. If the apple yields easily to the fork, it is done. Remove from oven and let the apples sit a few minutes. If you are impatient, slice into the apples so they will cool a little faster.

Douknowjello, thanks for the recipe! Thinking about trying it this weekend. I do have good news though. Today is the first day that I didn't wake up wanting a honey bun!

Okay, I know my updates have been wishy washy, but I mean, so have I. So of course I have diagnosed myself with a sugar addiction, or at least eating sugar because of feaning for I guess fake energy. Yesterday after work I went shopping and bought alot of fruit. Strawberries, cantaloupe, apples, bananas and blueburries, all fresh. I also got pineapple, peaches, and pears in the can, I thought of making a fruit salad with those. I bought some broccoli, and I can get other fresh veggies when I am at work. To satisfy my sweet craving when I don't want fruit, i got sugar free jello, only 5 calories each. I also bought ice pops.

For the last two days, I have done a workout routine at work.

Tuesday totals:
Jumping Jacks - 150
core twists - 200
toes/waist/overhead - 30 low impact, 20 hight impact
squats - 55

Wednesday totals -
350 jumping jacks (5 for every file that I put in a bottom file drawer)
Total of hour doing these jumping jacks and jogging in place/ knees high

File room exercises. I got walked in on a couple of times, but who cares, I'm tired of not getting anything done because there has been so much going on lately, that I have been up to the hospital two nights this week with my children's father. He has a hernia and his guts keep getting stuck. He is not due for surgery till next week but he has had two cases where they thought he needed emergency surgery, and he calls me to be there. It is scary though, but our hospital here which is the last one he went to did absolutely nothing, and didn't even pop the bulge back in, and said his intestines can hang there until surgery, even though the other hospital told him that he couldn't leave if they couldn't get it, then they were doing surgery, and his doctor told him that they couldn't be like that, so what the hell man! He was called back and my son and I went to get something to eat across the street. About 5 minutes we were back and they were already getting his discharge papers, meanwhile his intestines are falling into his groin. So, that's what I have been up to. It is actually 3 trips since last Thursday. My son was so worried about his dad and didn't want to leave him.

Today's plan
B- Apples and cinnamon oatmeal
L- 2 small ribs (bbq) and cabbage
D- Cabbage soup
Snacks for today: Raw broccoli, blueberries and grapes

I will workout in the file room again, and I am planning to workout when I get home. Let you all know how it goes. Gotta finish this cup of coffee.

I love cabbage soup! My mom used to make it with rice and cabbage...I could eat it by the pail!

Keep up the great work, (great idea with the work workouts too)!

Have a great nite!

Ugh it sucks that "professionals" are sounding anything but. One thing I do when I visit my great aunt in the hospital is ask a TON of questions, usually repetitive, that way you can see if they're just telling you what you want to hear or the truth. Most of the older folks who visit aren't able to speak English so I make sure to translate, and keep asking questions until the family is satisfied. It may look excessive, but in reality this is dealing with a loved one's health and can deal with their life so-- ask away!! That contradictions the different doctors did, you should check it out. Ask the doc, if he 'cannot be bothered' go to the nurses. In most cases they're more helpful than the doctors themselves. I hope your kid's father recovers.

I like your idea of replacing that sweet craving, w/ fruits. I've been doing that and yesterday I bought a jolly rancher bag, which one jolly rancher is 24 calories. I eat one and my sweet craving only intensifies. Later I'd eat an apple and I'm not only satisfied sweet tooth wise but full!

You know the worst part about this is we were asking a ton of questions, he kept telling her it was stuck and she was saying no it isn't (without checking it mind you). The nurses, my goodness, act like they don't know a damn thing. You have one medical professional telling you it is one hernia, then the other one saying that it is two. I told him he needs to chill out, lay down and do the very minimum until this surgery next week because it just seems as if doctors aren't in the profession to help anymore, it's about time and money. They gave him 5 minutes of their time, now they want the money and that is that.

Yes, I am quite full from the fruit also. I found that late last nite I had a sugar craving after the baby woke me. I grabbed a sugar free jello that is only 5 calories, and was more than satisfied from the sweetness that I didn't even finish it. I ate about half and that was enough for me. I haven't craved a single bad thing today, thank goodness. I'm ready to get back in this thing and really kick my own ass!

Flumes! I love cabbage soup too! I have made cabbage in every way possible. I've added and subtracted, spiced, change the color, everything you can imagine! I just don't like the same boring thing, so now I have all these cabbage recipes because for some reason, I just got hooked on the cabbage and doing it different. I've never done rice and cabbage though, so you just gave me an idea.

Cabbage soup? Never liked cabbage that much when I was growing up (still don't), but you two have got me intrigued. Both seem to love it, now I wanna try it too. It feels like I have been missing out on some yummy stuff all my life. Share the recipe pls?

A LONG time ago my spanish teacher had some people staying with her from russia and they made the best cabbage soup...or borsche (sp?) they called it. But the only cabbage soup I ever made was from this diet and it had tomato base to it. I ate it till I couldn't get it down anymore, I'd gag. Now I can't stand any soup with a tomato base, only meat broth. Well unless it's actually tomato soup and then we add milk. So what's your soup have in it?

Okay, I have no idea how to multi quote several people, so I'll just post:

My latest cabbage last thursday:

One head of cabbage
One onion
2 bouillon cubes (may boil beef, I sometimes boil ribs before placing in oven and use this stock instead for the cabbage
1 cub water

Combine all together.
pinch of salt

douknowjello -
Try this, I bet it will be so much better than what you had.

Chicken stock, low sodium or no msg
small can of tomato base (use only 25% of the can)
green pepper and onion (fresh)
black pepper
salt (optional based on your taste, only pinch required)
small or medium shrimp

Combine all ingredients excepte green pepper, onions and shrimp.
Half way into cooking the cabbage, add green pepper and onions.
Once the cabbage is mostly soft, almost done, add the shrimp.

You may also use 2 - 3 bouillon cubes instead of chicken broth or stock
One cup of water, or to taste.
May use half can of tomato soup instead of base.

I usually do different types of cabbage about 2 -3 times a month.

When I do, I'll post it here.

Oh, I guess I didn't post my actuall cabbage soup, and I'll catch up on a few other ways to cook it later. This morning is so hectic, I have to catch up. TTYL!

I just add cabbage to my vegetable soup with a vegetal base and when I don't have to share it with the kids I put some Cayenne pepper in there! It's great when you are all congested!

I love cayenne pepper too.

I like to add squash, carrots, celery, green, red and yellow peppers, onions, mushrooms, chicken stock, and any other veggie I can think of that I like with two heads of cabbage to make my soup. It lasts like all week, and everyone in the house loves it.

Sometimes, I take half of that, and add a piece of habenero pepper, and make it real spicy, and it seems to curb my cravings big time! Almost a guarantee drop on the scale when I do that! LOL!

I am totally addicted to sugar after taking a week off! I need to go cold turkey or switch to fruit too! I already have a head ache this morning and I know it's from the sugar!
I love the exercises at work! I need to start those today too! Every minute counts! Good to be back and looks like you are doing great! keep it up!

Quickly:

Today didn't start off well. I was already disappointed because I had to miss friday (work), big misunderstanding with my car. Last night the battery went dead, or was dying. The lights would come on, but it wouldn't start. I got a jump from my sister in law, and drove home, I figured something must be draining my battery. I only hoped it would start in the morning, as it was 11 pm. This morning, of course, no starting. I called around, it was no point in getting a jump, I wouldn't have a chance of making it home from work. My sister in law picked me up, took me to my best friend's house, so I could borrow her car. He battery was dead too. She used her boyfriend's truck for a jump, the car is knocking. Checked the oil, nothing, zilch. Omg, I cannot believe this is happening. We pick up 3 qts of oil, and I drive to work, of course the gas meter doesn't work.

Brandon can't help with the rent, can't go back to work, surgery June 30th, minimum time out 3 weeks, no pay. Rent just paid, a matter of days before we are behind again.

Other car. Not finished, after 5 months, and don't have the money when it does, but what's the problem anyway? I think they F***ed something up. Sorry stress.

Weightloss, why would there be, too much going on right now, but I didn't have to eat that double cheese burger with mac sauce last night and sweet tea.

Level of tolerance = ZERO

Today's goal:
Write an entry
Consume lots of water
Think about work and not stress
Read motivational quotes
Know that I have been here before, I made it, I'm strong and it will be okay
Take a mid day walk to help clear my head
Concentrate on emotional health

B - so far only an apple and some blueberries (handful)
I don't feel hungry at all, drank some water, just blown right now

Good to see you. Today is a hard day for me, but I will still do a semi workout at work. I am walking today before lunch, I usually consume less when I exercise first, concentrating on not stressing out today. I have lots of fruit for those sugar cravings. Watermelon was on my mind, so I got some today.

You are doing great by going for walks and trying to focus on work rather then stress!!! I don't know why stuff tends to break when you don't have cash! Everything we owned broke last year while I was on mat leave it just sucked! Good job on not eating your emotions!!!

Take good care of yourself during this time of stress, hun. One thing at a time. Take care of the things that urgently need to be taken care of. It may look like things are all going wrong at the same time, but they also have a way of working out. Stay focussed. Focus on good things. Sending you soooooo much good energy from here. (((((((HUGS))))))
