This is the time

Hi Felici

I am sure that you will love the pedometer. I absolutely adore mine - it helps me quantify exercise when I dont know what I have done but do things around the house.

Its a good idea not to drop it on the floor - it never seems to enhance the way that gadgets work.

They say that the average person in Britain clocks up about 5000 steps per day - so it is quite possible that you will have clocked up something like 2000 steps in part of a day. I am sure that you are aware that a lot of experts think that we would benefit if we did about 10,000 steps per day.

The only day that I havent been on a walk in a long time was when we travelled on the Thursday before Christmas. My stepcount that day was 5830 steps. I normally do a fair bit of walking and get some pretty good stepcounts because of it (a good job because I dont go to a gym or play sports) - yesterday for instance I did 10.29 miles, 27,190 steps). It can be quite enlightening to see what we do around the house. I verified the mileages for my regular daily walks using the car tripometer and this helps to sanity check the distances that my pedometer indicates. I know for instance that yesterday I did a 6.3 mile walk and a 3 mile walk and I did some grocery shopping and whatever in the house.

If you are uncertain about it
Take a note of your start reading
Count your steps as you walk along for 100 steps
Take a note of your end reading and subtract and see how it compares
It is reasonable to have possibly a slight difference (maybe 95 to 105 could be classed as ok).

Good luck with the pedometer.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Thanks Margaret! Well so far today I remembered to clip the pedometer on (to my undies), when I got up, walked not too much, then was rushing to change for a swim and pulled it off so fast that the clip made a little "snap!" and sent the number back to zero! Which is pretty much par for the course for me and pedometers!!

However, I am really happy to find that it's strong enough to hang on to the undies in the first place! And still works with my shorts popped over the top - I am inclined to a lot of quick clothes changes so that's good.

Also the number seems to be accurate.

Also, although I was a bit worried that it would only count up to 9,999 (because it started with 2 big zeroes and 2 little zeroes), I found out that it counts up to at least 15,592 - because that's where it's at now! I had a great walk this afternoon - and it was a really long one for me. I don't think I chose to do it because of the pedometer, but it's been fun checking it out! Also I can imagine it prompting me to add little bits of walking in future.

I love the new avvie! You are too cute! :)
Thank you!! Snap! :D

Thanks Brandy! And thanks for your support too. It's great that we're both still here, isn't it! :D (I'd like to be still here and at goal weight as well, but that will come!)

I'm posting briefly here to at least get some comments in about my current food and exercise. Every night that I wait for myself to do the full calculations and don't, is turning into a night that I don't talk about it at all, so this will be better than skipping I think.

I made it through another couple of days, on target for what I wanted to eat. I'm trying to have a bit less carbs and a bit less calories than usual (not lots less but tighter than normal), and also to exercise more. I don't plan on this becoming normal for me, but I am really ticked off that I did so badly last week.

I actually gained 3-4 kg. I haven't changed my siggie yet, I suppose I should but I really don't know what to do about that thing seeing as I don't know how to compare it to the scales I'm using now anyway!! The weight may be partly a matter of water and food bulk, but I really did binge badly on high calorie foods and I'm pretty sure that if I calculated up the calories a big percentage of the gain would be due to calories in!

Anyway, I reckon that with my continuing holidays, good weather, and reasonable health, this is a time when I can up the ante a bit. I would like to do it until the Christmas gain is gone, but I will only do it for a week or two at the most, and only while I can do it and feel energized at the same time. I'll just play it by ear. At another time, cutting back might end up giving me a nasty recoil, and if I feel that coming on, I will go back to my normal food. So far though I still feel a bit weighed down, and even as though I can still almost taste Sunday night's icecream, which is not a pleasant thing any more. I'm cranky enough with myself to feel quite comfortable about a little bit of strict time. Kinda like I feel sometimes when I tell the naughty kid in class to just shut up and get on with it for a while!

Yesterday I did some laps in a pool, went for a nice walk by the beach with my husband and our dog, and walked home the long way (~ 10 km or 6 miles, all up) with a big smile on my face because I was so glad to get more active again. Today I ventured back into the surf with my daughter and her friend. I ended up swimming a lot of breaststroke with my head out of the water. That was just the way it worked out - sometimes the surf just gets kinda bossy - it was not good for my neck, but I think I'm getting away with it. I might take a snorkel to the pool tomorrow. I've noticed some people do that, and always figured it was to try and make it easy on their necks. It will be good to have the health club back onto a full schedule again.

Tonight I watched a movie, which really brings out the muncher feelings in me, but I calculated I'd had enough to eat, and I'm not inclined towards being too flexible until after that damn 3 kgs is gone again, so I just practiced letting myself know that I don't have to eat during the evening! Tomorrow I'm going to buy a big bag of snow peas, back to my favourite version of instant snacks.

Okay, I can't really go another day without actually posting some food. Calories would be hard to do a good job on, because I'm guessing amounts for dinner.

Breakfast: 2 weetbix, tinned peaches, soy milk. A boiled egg. Coffee with milk.

Pre-swim: Banana.

After-swim: 100gm cottage cheese and 4 Vive wholemeal crackers.
200 gm diet yoghurt.

Dinner: Lean pork stirfried with onions, carrots, capsicum, celery, broccoli and cellophane noodles. 200 gm diet yoghurt. 2 nectarines.

Your food looks really nice. Healthy and delicious. The 6 mile walk sounds GREAT! Plus all the water-fun! I'm jealous. Around here it is really cold and rainy at the moment... and I LOVE pools...but don't have one. :/

I think it is great that you are getting in some exercise. And i love snow peas! YUMMMM.

I think being really strict for 2 weeks is a great idea. It will give your metabolism a boost maybe.

You always seem to have your head on straight with what you want and how to get it. ITs a very admirable quality. :)

Have a great day!

It's great to hear you have a plan! I think the 2 weeks of being strict will do you good. I'm pretty much doing that, too. I am trying to make up for all the holiday junk eating! Once I feel I have earned it, then I will go back to little splurges here and there. :)

You seem to be very focused, and very clear in your objectives and how you mean to obtain them. I think that 2008 will be a great year for you. Happy New Year!
