This is the time

Hi. I'm sorry I have been slow to reply here. I'm not sure exactly why - getting disorganized with the lack of routine that comes with school holidays perhaps.

Thanx youtoo and your pic is great by the way - I loved the santa hat one as well!!!
Thanks cerella. :)

Your food looks really nice. Healthy and delicious. The 6 mile walk sounds GREAT! Plus all the water-fun! I'm jealous. Around here it is really cold and rainy at the moment... and I LOVE pools...but don't have one. :/

I think it is great that you are getting in some exercise. And i love snow peas! YUMMMM.

I think being really strict for 2 weeks is a great idea. It will give your metabolism a boost maybe.

You always seem to have your head on straight with what you want and how to get it. ITs a very admirable quality. :)

Have a great day!
Thanks Brandy. I'm good at knowing what I want for sure. Picking the right route to get there ... well I'm a spasmodic achiever in that area I reckon!

It's great to hear you have a plan! I think the 2 weeks of being strict will do you good. I'm pretty much doing that, too. I am trying to make up for all the holiday junk eating! Once I feel I have earned it, then I will go back to little splurges here and there. :)
I feel very much like that. I know the feeling that I need to make up for stuffing it up will wear off after a while of penance!

It's just amazing to me, how fast it's possible for me to consume so many calories that it takes an age to clear them away again.

At any rate, I hope I can speed that process up a bit.

You seem to be very focused, and very clear in your objectives and how you mean to obtain them. I think that 2008 will be a great year for you. Happy New Year!
Well I am clear about trying again or trying differently if one way doesn't work!

Right now I'm sure that I want to lose another significant amount of weight, and also, want to get to something reasonable and start to maintain. This should be the year I do that.

Again I'm rushing my food and exercise diary for the last 2 days. Food yesterday was fine - fit the pattern I was looking for. Exercise was not so good! I was limited by needing to be with my daughter most of the day on a rather hot day. Then when he got home, my husband wanted to take the dog to the beach, so we went with him. I thought I would exercise there but got distracted looking at the seashells washed in from the reef, and reckoned I would go to the pool later. But later was quite late, and then when I did get there it turned out they'd had problems with the pool and it was unusable. So all I really got was a meandering, many stops walk for 40 minutes or so.

So today I was thinking that I really didn't want that to happen again, so I determined to get the dog walking chore done early. I had an appointment first thing though and then was slow to get going so it was already hot out. I figured it would be cooler down near the beach so I tried to walk the dog along the path above ocean. This was almost ok. It was so hot that at times I was walking faster than I've walked for months, just wanting to be done with it. This is not like hot and sweaty heat. It's like a fire. I had my water and my hat and suncream, but walking fast and staying out moving in the heat was a mistake - I got stuck on a piece of path way that allowed for no turning aside, and I felt like my brain was about to cook. At any rate, I finished, rushed for the ocean but found a shower was closer, and wonderful!! So my track record of caring for myself while I exercise was not improved by that one!!

Better news is that when my husband came home he still wanted to go to a dog beach anyway!! But this time we went to a different one, with no shells and a nice obvious walk along the water's edge for me, in the cool!! :D Plus I finally got back to the pool, though I'm still restricted to backstroke. I tried using a snorkel but I felt like I was drowning. I think I need a nose clip, or a different face mask to do that. The neck's getting better though, and overall I'm not unhappy with how things are going.

Food today was back to the old standard breakfast.

Toast and jam. Boiled egg. Weetbix, peaches, soy milk. Coffee and milk.

Then the morning walk.

Then 4 Vive crackers and cottage cheese and tomato.

Then 1 (-2?) crackers before the afternoon walk.

A carrot and 2 strawberries before the swim,

and rather late, I had about 160 gm tinned red salmon, mixed with a 100 gm tin of four bean mix and lots of yummy chopped veges - tomato, cucumber, mushrooms and capsicum. Also I had some broccoli and carrot with about a dessertspoon of french onion dip.

This is a bit less food for the day than I had yesterday. I think I just ran out of time, today, and had a bit more space to start looking around thinking about food yesterday evening. Both days were ok I think.

Yeah! Christmas was such a trap for me this year. Last year I was so nervous about it that I was incredibly careful, and when I relaxed that restraint this year on Christmas Day, I really fell in a hole!!

I'm pretty happy with the way I've been able to get back on track though! Best wishes for your appointment with Australia Day! (Which is on Jan 26 :D) It's nice to see you back!

:) Yeah we are lucky here - lots of beaches! As for the heat - well I am fanning it north as fast as I can!! :)

I like that you write your meals in here. It gives me new ideas on things to eat!! Your journal is particularly inspiring.
Thank you very much!! :D

nude beach
There's a nude beach in New Jersey - near Sandy Hook -and the people that go there - you really really REALLY don't want to see nude... :) While I'm all for people not having body issues... if you're gonna be showing it off in public - at least look good :D

:D

I haven't been to our nude beach here since I was young and slim!!

Those days I used to quite often go round without glasses or contact lenses so maybe that's why my memory of the other visitors is kinda blurry.

Or maybe ours was just like yours and my memory is just protecting me!!

Well slimmer or not I don't reckon that will be a place I want to participate in future. :D *Remembers "what was Grandma wearing?" joke*

I'm too paranoid about sun damage these days - I don't think there's enough sunscreen on the planet with a high enough spf to protect m y pasty white skin... it's not like when I was a teenager and baby oil wass the suncare product of choice :)

Yeah, I remember the fry-your-skin-brown technique! I tried it though I can't say it ever worked for me! :D

I do remember thinking sunblock was pretty important at a nude beach. Who wants to explain to their mum why their bikini triangles are the red bits!!?

years ago, a buddy of mine went to a nude beach and got a burn in a certain area that hadn't ever seen the light of day.. let's jst say he insisted he didn't have an STD for quite some time he was peeling so much :)

Oh dear. That so has my mind going off ... I always wanted peeling over and done with ... we used to try and see how much skin we could peel off each other, in one piece ... and there was the friction technique ...

Friday 4 January 2008

I stuffed up my food a little today. I've found that it's much easier for me to exercise, especially to swim, when I haven't just finished a whole meal, including protein. So while I was getting busy and putting off the exercise time, I ended up putting off my lunch time until I didn't really have it. I did still have some other food each time before I walked and swam though and felt quite energized. Still I will need to be a bit more careful tomorrow. I don't feel hungry at all now but I don't want to suddenly get the idea I'm starving or something.

Breakfast: 2 weetbix with ~ 1/3 C drained, preserved peaches, soy milk. Boiled egg.

Eventually: 2 nectarines. 2 Vive crackers.

Walked around Carine. ~ 40 minutes. I haven't done that for ages and it was great!! One thing that terrible walk did yesterday was somehow remind me how to walk faster than I have been. I need to go back and see how fast I used to be able to walk there. Today I did 4 km. The first km was 11:34 minutes and the last was 9:31.

200 gm diet apricot yoghurt.

25 minute swim. Still backstroke. I finally remembered to try a little breaststroke on my back, also, partly for fun, partly cos I like the stretching I get to do as I swim, and miss some of it while my strokes are restricted.

Dinner: 200 gm (raw weight) skinless chicken thighs, trimmed and grilled with dried mixed herbs. (250 cal) 3 asparagus spears grilled with a little (?10-15 gm?) grated parmesan. 1/2 C peas. 2 cooked carrots. 1 raw tomato. 1/3 C instant gravy.

11:30 1 Nectarine. Green tea.

MMM as always a FANTASTIC mealplan for the day, every single item sounds delicious! Good job on the long walk and the swimming, that is the best exercise, no wonder you lose all that weight. Keep up the great work, and I hope your weekend is a wonderful one!!

Take care
Hugs
Kim

Thanks Kim! I did really enjoy all the food I had when I finally ate it!

I really like the chicken done that way and it is very little bother. Less bother than driving out to buy some cooked chicken. A good thing too, because after the last time I ate the take away chicken that I thought was supposed to be okay, I looked up the calories in my little book and it was 190 calories a piece and I had just eaten 3 pieces ... From the way it tastes, I'd say they take off the skin and then marinate it in sugary oil. My way it's 125 calories a piece - maybe less because I trim the skin free chicken to get rid of more fat than the butchers do. So far as getting what I want out of the food I still totally get it, I miss nothing and save plenty of calories towards the little bit of Parmesan that also has calories (probably 40), but makes my meal totally delicious!!

I am also having fun with the exercise just now that's for sure.

I hope your weekend's great too! :)

Well I had a great day today.

I kinda think the food was ok, though the timing wasn't great, umm. Actually in review I'm not too sure where the veges went!!

My husband cooked dinner and put it on a plate, so I doubt the serving sizes were 100% kosher, but I doubt that will be too much of a problem after all the activity!!

I went to the pool the first chance I had, and actually had enough time for a good warm up, some upside down breaststroke and a few laps of everyday backstroke, before thinking that I really am sufficiently on top of that stroke now to try to do it HIIT style. And I really did it!! Even though I've tried to vary my pace before I don't quite know if I could manage HIIT with the other strokes yet because of the breathing. Mind you once I upped the speed on the backstroke I did tend to end up with a lot more water on my face and up my nose...:ack2: and felt a bit like I was drowning from time to time. Still. It totally felt right, and the timing was right. Amazing how you can hate it when the bad bits really don't last long! But such a buzz afterwards.

And then I took the girl to the beach because she wanted to show me one she went to with her friends the other day. So now "our" beach is Sorrento instead of Scarborough. What a blast! A windy day, sand stinging our faces as we arrived, boogey boards about to be blown from our grasp. We never use them, I'm not quite sure why we carry them around - to burn extra calories? Anyway we had a very lively time! One of those days where we got a great work out from just trying to stay between the flags and off the beach!! I dunno what I will say to the physio about my neck .... I didn't do breaststroke, honest. You didn't tell me not to get caught in combination water rollercoaster and washing machine...? I reckon I will be fine. I seem to be getting lots of exercise, it is getting better and surf days with the girl will not be available forever.

Breakfast: 1 slice of toast with plum and cinnamon jam (back on the menu today, cos I felt yesterday was a bit light on food), 1 boiled egg, 2 weetbix with preserved peaches and soy milk.

Before swim. 125 gm seedless green grapes (75 cal)

After swim, before beach. 2 Vive crackers. 100 gm low fat cottage cheese.

Dinner: Curried fish and prawns (must have included some EVO oil and flour guessing 100 gm fish, 5 king prawns), some lettuce and some basmati rice (probably 3/4 - 1 cup). 200 gm diet apricot yoghurt. Bunch of grapes a bit bigger than the last bunch! 10 roasted almonds.

Good news from the scales. I used the health club scales again. I'm thinking I might even change my ticker goal etc totally to those scales because I don't see how those kind where you move the weights along a bar could be all that inaccurate. Especially in a gym where people could take the free weights over and test them if they wanted to!! :D :D Still I won't actually do that changeover for a while - I want to wait to chat to someone there about it first.

Anyhoo today they said 67.3 kg ( 147.8 lb) - down 2.2 kg (4.8 lb) since Monday if I remember rightly. [edit: remembered wrong - it's down 2 kg] So it looks like my penance week is paying off!! :D Truth be told it doesn't have any feeling of penance about it right now because I'm loving my healthy food and all the extra exercise.
