Hi Felici
I am sure that you will love the pedometer. I absolutely adore mine - it helps me quantify exercise when I dont know what I have done but do things around the house.
Its a good idea not to drop it on the floor - it never seems to enhance the way that gadgets work.
They say that the average person in Britain clocks up about 5000 steps per day - so it is quite possible that you will have clocked up something like 2000 steps in part of a day. I am sure that you are aware that a lot of experts think that we would benefit if we did about 10,000 steps per day.
The only day that I havent been on a walk in a long time was when we travelled on the Thursday before Christmas. My stepcount that day was 5830 steps. I normally do a fair bit of walking and get some pretty good stepcounts because of it (a good job because I dont go to a gym or play sports) - yesterday for instance I did 10.29 miles, 27,190 steps). It can be quite enlightening to see what we do around the house. I verified the mileages for my regular daily walks using the car tripometer and this helps to sanity check the distances that my pedometer indicates. I know for instance that yesterday I did a 6.3 mile walk and a 3 mile walk and I did some grocery shopping and whatever in the house.
If you are uncertain about it
Take a note of your start reading
Count your steps as you walk along for 100 steps
Take a note of your end reading and subtract and see how it compares
It is reasonable to have possibly a slight difference (maybe 95 to 105 could be classed as ok).
Good luck with the pedometer.
Take care
Love
Margaret
