The Vampire's Journey to Health

This is just my intro post =)

Oh and I probably won't be posting my weight on here unless you want me to? I will keep track of my weight in my sig though, so there will be a record of it =)

So I just feel really stressed and overweight. Heck, I know I'm overweight. So of course I'm going to try to change that =)

I do have a lot of experience with dieting (considering my age and all, nothing compared to you all), but I always seem to spiral into unhealthy habits.

Sophomore year, I went through a few food phases.
Phase 1 was eating a salad every day. Just a salad.
Phase 2 was when my mom was out of the country, so no one really cared about what I ate. I would have a can of diet coke, a stalk or two of celery, and a rice cake every day.
Phase 3 I would eat a lot after school, then throw it up.

Then these past few years (wow... time flies) I've been going between fasting for days and then eating a lot and throwing that up. Or maybe not even a lot, but throwing it up anyway.

But this time I want to do it the healthy way =)

Things I'm going to try to be careful about:
Vitamin C (This probably shouldn't be a problem, since my mom is getting me supplements, but I despise being sick)
Iron
Protein
(My doctor said my iron and protein were low when I went there a few weeks ago for a checkup. Not dangerously low, but he wants them higher. He wanted me to eat meat. Ha. Like that's ever going to happen.)


Oh, and I am vegan. I do not understand or sympathize with people who eat animal products. Why? Because they absolutely disgust me. The animal products that is. The idea of eating something that came from an abused animal is horrifying to me. Faced with cheese or dairy milk, I literally burst into tears.

Which makes French class every Friday nothing short of hell, as my class has decided that Friday is "food day", so they bring in brownies and cupcakes and such. Obviously made with dairy products. Thank God it's second period, so I'm half asleep and far from hungry.


Hmm... I think that's about it. Oh, and I adore Rice Dream =)

Hmm. Today isn't going very well.

Breakfast - Strawberry soy yogurt (160cals)
Lunch - Whole wheat pasta with a cut up tofurkey Italian sausage in it (500cals? No idea)
Current snack - Coffee (I'm on my first cup but I'll know I'll get another one soon!), black of course!
Planned dinner: Steamed broccoli/carrots with soy sauce

Not a very healthy day. I'm sorry! I usually have more fresh fruit and wayy less processed stuff. I feel like a failure =(

Post breakfast weight (Haha that's cheating I know, but... meh): 124.2lbs

Welcom to the forum. I often eat nuts or beans to up my protein....and I make a salade out of raw beets in order to increase my Iron it's really simple I shred a couple of beets, mince garlic and then I just add a bit of lemon juice and olive oil for added moisture and it's best if you do it a day ahead. How much weight are you planning to loose??

Ooo I love beets! My mom boils them and grates them, then I just lightly salt them and have that for an after school snack. SO GOOD! I'm mostly a broccoli addict though. =) But yeah, beets are great. I'm from Russia, so I'm like, born to eat beets. Ha.

I'm planning to get down to 109lbs or so. That's just an estimate. I might be happier at a higher weight, or I might want to go lower. I can go as low as 100lbs and still be healthy. =) Being short is fun.
 
I love beets too..I'm Polish and we used to have them for dinners often as well. I think Russian/Polish kitchen is similar...I just had some today .. I melted a teaspoon of butter to add a moistier taste.

Hm. Well I'm not weighing myself every day, since I used to do that and... it wasn't pretty. Oh I lost weight, yes. 1-2lbs a day. Got down to 95ish lbs and my mom was insane because her sister died from anorexia a few years ago, so obviously she didn't want her only child becoming anorexic... >.<

Today...

Breakfast - peach soy yogurt
Lunch - Tofurkey Italian sausage with tomato sauce (I was feeling lazy, but it was really yummy and filling, so it's all good!)
Dinner - no idea =(

My mom and I are going to the store today and I'm getting
-Broccoli
-Bread
-Tofurkey (just sliced sandwich stuff... 20cals a slice sigh)
-Juice
-Tofu (I'm making this baked tofu for a few lunches this week so I'll have something yummy after school every day)
-Fruit (bananas and whatever else catches my eye)
-Maybe hemp milk, but I already have a full thing of rice milk and my mom has her sweetened almond milk (GROSS! It's way too sweet!), so I kinda doubt it

...Yeah. XD Still no idea what I'm doing for dinner. Meh. Oh well, I'll figure it out. Something low cal and almost purely vegetable-y. Maybe just raw cauliflower, broccoli, and carrots in balsamic vinaigrette?

You are hardcore eating raw broccoli and cauliflower! I'm a massive fan of both but it has to be said I do prefer them cooked! Ha. Make sure you get everything you need from your diet - we don't want you getting poorly!! =)
 
Ooo dinner tonight was fun!

I had...

A large handful (I could barely hold it!) of raw broccoli with a little (40cals?) fat-free balsamic vinaigrette
A medium banana with a spoonful of peanut butter

=)

And I did get hemp milk at the store. It was very thrilling =) I feel like a true hippie. Drinking HEMP, man! XD For some reason, I'm still amused by this. Don't mind me. >.>

And my mom prepared some eggplant, so might have that sometime this week.

So yeah, that's my update =)


Totally unrelated note: I'm almost done with my Middlebury application! HELL YEAH!
 
You're so good with eating raw broccoli.. not a big fan of balsamic vinagrette- unless I get used to its taste the more I do.
You're eating very healthy! I am sure you will meet your goals very soon!

Being a vegan and on a diet must be hard - don't vegans have to eat constantly in order to get the minimum daily required calories to maintain weight???

What is your goal weight? (if you dont mind me asking)

I think it will help make it easier for you to focus on what you need to be eating if you know where you want to get to (if that makes sense).

To answer some comments... It's actually not any harder being on a diet when you're vegan than it is as an omni (non-vegan). Veganism really isn't deprivation at all, unless you don't have common sense.


Oh and my goal weight is around 109lbs, but I might go lower or stay higher depending on how I feel. With my current weight (124.2lbs), my BMI is 22.7, which is technically healthy. Just a little too high for my liking.

Breakfast - peach soy yogurt
Lunch/afterschool snack - plain whole wheat bagel (they're really yummy by themselves) and a small plate of the eggplant my mom made
Dinner - a big plate of the tofu I made with tomato sauce and a few mini sweet pickles on the side

I'm totally posting a picture of my dinner when I'm not too lazy to upload it. It was DELICIOUS! And very healthy, considering how lazy I was haha

I probably can't update much during the week thanks to school and all.

And I know today was a high calorie day. I'm definitely going to try to be better this week!

I really want to liquid fast for a few days, since food makes me sleepy and I have so much work I need to get done. I can't be sleepy! I need to WORK. Grrr.... I might just do it and make my mom think I'm eating. Just because she's a fatty who "needs" 2,500cals a day to survive doesn't mean I am too.

No updates really. Just... yeah. Not weighing myself for a bit because I had a total freakout these past 2 days and I kept making myself throw up, which I've been trying to stop. Soo... yeah. Don't need my scale triggering me to get worse.
 
To anyone who reads this, and who I haven't commented... I'm REALLY SORRY. I've been at school and doing so much homework... Lord. But I can comment some people's diaries and such today =D

Breakfast - banana
Lunch - plate of steamed broccoli/carrots with soy sauce
Dinner - toasted whole wheat bagel with 4 (total) slices of tofurkey

Still not weighing myself. Sigh. Too triggering.

Only 2 more days until the weekend!
 
Sigh. I think I suck at dieting

Breakfast - banana
Lunch - small bowl of steamed broccoli/carrots (w/ a little soy sauce) and a whole wheat bagel with thinly spread peanut butter
Dinner - glass of rice milk

...Yeah. I'm probably gaining weight right now, though I did end up throwing up the rice milk (not intentionally) because I was watching my parents eat and it made me feel so sick.
 
Hey Vampire! Are you sure you are eating enough?? Maybe you are "gaining weight" as u said b/c your metabolism has slowed b/c you're not getting enough fuel. Please be kind to your body...lose weight (if necessary) sensibly...Sorry don't mean to be offensive...just trying to help girlie! =)
 
You're not being offensive =) If I didn't want commentary, I wouldn't be posting stuff on here. ^_^

I guess I might not be eating enough, but I feel like a fat pig if I eat anymore... And I just feel sick like I'm eating far too much. You know?

So far today... I think I can eat less since I'm just sitting at home doing homework and college apps today.

Breakfast - strawberry soy yogurt and a cup of black coffee
Lunch - toasted plain mini-bagel (100cals... haha my mom's on a diet and she thinks 100cals is nothing... whatever!) and half a bowl of raw broccoli with a little balsamic vinaigrette. I had a whole bowl of broccoli, but I couldn't finish it, so I ended up having half. Oh, and a glass of diet coke! <3 I missed this stuff so much.
Dinner - Uhh.. No idea. The hemp milk looks quite tempting!

Oh... I thought I should throw this out there... My theory on meal plans (for me, I don't look down on people who don't follow this)

I feel way better if I have my biggest meal around noon, and as little as possible in the evening. Breakfast... well, I've learned the hard way (years of skipping breakfast and every meal until dinner... >.<) that it's kinda important. Sadly, I have issues with big breakfasts, so I just have something fruity and small-ish, so at least I get something.

And I feel better with substituting liquids for solids, since food makes me feel like crap. >.< All sleepy and full. Can't stand that feeling.

So basically I'm trying to find a balance between health and comfort.

Like anyone's even going to read that XD Don't worry, I don't expect anyone to.

It could be that the diet is stressing you out a bit.

Maybe have a couple of days off it and see if you can get some sleep? A diet shouldn't be about torturing your body, its about keeping it happy and if you are not happy with what you are eating, how can you expect to keep it up?

To me, a diet should be something you not only can adjust to lose weight on but can maintain for life.

Don't eat things which you don't like the taste of. Try and find foods which you enjoy but will keep your daily intake in the range you are looking for.

I dunno, just try something different. I started the low carb diet with lots of protein and fats and its working better than anything Ive tried before as I enjoy eating high protein and fat foods like meat, eggs, etc (which I know you cannot eat).
